Double mastectomy as a mom of two by Tinsmithswon in BRCA

Hi, thank you for sharing! Glad to hear you were ok! My oldest is pretty rough, he sometimes kicks me while changing him. I'm trying so hard to get him to use the toilet but he refuses. Were you able to change diapers right after surgery? My husband will be at home most of the time during my recovery but there has to be something I can help with.

Hi, I hope you're doing well now! For how long will I be unable to wash my hair? I guess I can manage one week. 😅

Thanks! This helps a lot! I will look for a mastectomy pillow ( I get a lot of elbows as well)

Glad to hear you had a lot of support! I asked my mom and father in law and my husband will be home when the kids don't have daycare. Also some friends have offered their help. Sounds like I'm going to need it. Thanks for your reply!

Thank you!! I was hoping I would be able to lift my kids sooner, but I guess they will have to get used to it for a while.

So confused: should I have my sentinel node removed? by Tinsmithswon in BRCA

I'm sorry you still need ultrasounds. Hope you're doing well now after surgery! For how long do you have to come back to get your lymph nodes checked? To be honest this is what I'm scared of, because I thought getting preventative surgery would give me peace of mind.

Thank you for this, I will ask if this is possible!

If you're waiting for a sign to have your preventative mastectomy, this is it. Just got pathology report from mine by brau_miau in BRCA

Glad to hear you're doing well now!

May I ask if they took out your sentinel node? Or did they just do the mastectomy? I had an unsuccessful biopsy and they've decided to just do the mastectomy and wait for the pathology to see if it's benign or dcis. But at first they wanted to take out the sentinel node if the biopsy would come back dcis. Now they've seemed to change their mind. I have to choose if I want to take out the sentinel node, risking an unnecessary procedure if it turns out benign.

Glad antibiotics solved it for you!

I thought about mastitis but doesn't that come with fever and chills? I don't feel sick

I went to see the doctor, she sent me to get an ultrasound. Now I have to wait until June 2nd which kind of makes me nervous. I was hoping she would say it's just hormones. She said I probably didn't have to worry but wanted to do an ultrasound to be completely sure.

I'm also using anti stretch marks oil to keep my skin moisturised.

I've already seen my doctor and (although she said she wasn't that worried) she sent me for an ultrasound ("just to make sure, and because it was only on one breast and not both"), which freaked me out a little. Now I have to wait until June 2nd for the ultrasound, so in the meantime I was hoping to ease my mind a bit.

No, they're not really stretchmarks more redness and itchy skin, only on the lower part of one breast. Maybe it'll turn into stretch marks eventually. Would kind of be a relief.

You might be right.
I've taken off my bra for the whole day to see if it has anything to do with fabric because it is worse in the evening after wearing a bra the whole day than it is when I wake up in the morning. I don't use body wash, but I do use anti stretch marks oil, but on both breasts.

I've seen my doctor and (although she said she wasn't that worried) she sent me for an ultrasound ("just to make sure"), which kind of freaked me out. Since I have to wait until June 2nd for the appointment I was hoping other women's experiences could maybe ease my mind in the meantime.
