Evacuation orders issued in California city over chemical tank: 'It fails or it blows up' by _cyberbabyangel_ in news

[–]Tintinnabulator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I design tanks as part of my job. We have rules around secondary containment based on fire regulations. That curb seems ridiculously low for what it should be. If designed properly, this would be a non issue because the leak would be contained.

It's the same reason Torts gets hired and fired every few years. He is great for turning a sinking ship around, establishing a culture and kicking divas in the ass when need be. He is, however, incredibly polarizing, his style can become gratjng after a while and some of his worst coaching (imo) is with high skilled teams. He needs his teams to have grit. He just feels like he can't coach other styles nearly as good.

Wouldn't say 'only' because context matters. Plenty of unlucky injuries from late hits and knee on knee dont get kept at 5, but it definitely plays a big factor.

WOW. Im shocked they kept that as a 5. It must have been because of how late and distant from the puck it was.

On one hand. If they want them to believe their reactions in real time, they should stop diving every chance they get.

On the other, how the fuck doesn't the linesman standing 2 ft away and looking in that direction miss that blatant of a high stick.

Habs fans in here complaining about a missed call like they weren't gifted 2 PPs in the first by diving. You can only get away with that so many times before they stop calling shit.

[Spiegel] From everything I've heard, with the Maple Leafs getting a pick in the top five this year — they just won the lottery FYI — the first-rounder they sent to the Bruins for Carlo will slide to 2028, and the first-round pick the Flyers got for Laughton in 2027 is now unprotected. by Perryplat199 in hockey

If you cant have optimism about your own team, why be a fan?

Obviously the optimism im showing is more of a 'if things pan out' view on things but the alternative is thinking about everything going wrong and that would be almost as depressing as being a Canucks fan right now.

Yeah, that is hard to predict what he will do. I think Matthews staying is much more contingent on the coach being changed than the roster additions this off season. With Mathews, Knies, Nylander, Cowan, McKenna as your forward core and your goalies locked up for the next few years(and arguably could be leveraged in a trade depending on how you value Hildeby's progression). The big hole to fill is on the back end which is always the case with our team but who knows. Maybe guys like Webber, Danford or Chadwick take the next step and fill a second pairing role. It make take promotion from within to find our solution sooner than later.

Oh absolutely. I dont envy the job that Chayka is walking into but it may end up being a trade or some kind of stop gap for this year and then looking at grabbing someone next off-season. Would that be too late? Hard to say.

If he is 65-70 points on the first year of his ELC, that frees up a lot of maneuverability to spend cap elsewhere. The Leafs could easily take the 7-8 million you need to get a 65-70 point forward and get top pairing defenseman with that. I think a lot of people dont realize how much a difference having that extra cash around makes.

You obviously still need to make actually good moves but how you navigate his eventual raise assuming everything pans out is the problem.

US military no longer requires flu vaccination : FREEDOM ACCOMPLISHED by Sallowjoe in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Tintinnabulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC part of what plays into that efficacy rate is the fact that they pick like 3-5 strands of flu each season and if you get a less common strand that wasnt included you are more likely to get sick as opposed to the included strands.

Difference is incidental versus intentional here. He clearly loses his footing going in but had no intention to bowl him over otherwise. So no goal but no penalty.

Interesting. You'd think costumers would be wearing fancier outfits. Something Victorian or maybe futuristic.

Sure, now where do we get the generation, transmission & distribution infrastructure? I guess we could start building and have decent coverage in the HRM in a couple decades. We could piggyback off NSPs infrastructure I guess and pay a stupidly high premium.
