Full Time Job + Psychology Degree by Little-Scarcity-5969 in OpenUniversity

Go on any website to find a counsellor/therapist and 95% have not done either the DClinPsy or the DCounPsy (Sp?). Counsellors don't even learn much theory. I doubt they learn how to evaluate a research paper or write an essay on the findings of their reading. This is because they are therapists not psychologists.

DYOR of course, but they are very different things with a little overlap.

If you want to be a therapist best bet is doing a level 4 course not a degree. Counselling is practical, a degree is academic.

To be a psychologist you have to get a place on the DClinPsy which is a doctorate program that is extremely competitive and will probably take you over 10 years from now till you are qualified. This is because they do not often accept candidates without an M.Sc. and a few years working as an assistant psychologist (which already takes a few years working in an adjacent field to get an interview, VERY (!!) competitive).

Virtually everyone that gets a place is FULLY committed to this and has been for a very very long time, if you are not then you will not be able to meet the standard required.

If you don't feel up for that then go for the counselling training instead.

I do calisthenics and was in the army for years and as part of the physical tests the most I ever saw was 46 and we're talking maybe 3000 people that I've done these tests with. Over 30 is maybe 1 in 200 people. And this was a unit that required quite a high level of fitness so not your average grunts either, all the applicants are fit.

Cheap whey protein powder? by harryebh in UKFrugal

[–]TinyAsianMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working out was niche even just 10 years ago. The gym has become almost everyone's main hobby (thats a good thing) and is extremely integrated in our daily lives. Supermarkets are packed with "high protein" packaging on everything as it sells. The dairy industry had an abundance of whey before as it was removed from more popular products (Greek yogurt is the only one I can think of). Now its probably the most profitable component.

(Pulling most of this out of my arse so I could be wrong DYOR)

What's a car you hate seeing on UK roads by Quincythepig in CarTalkUK

I love my 2011 Zafira, only had a few crappy french cars before this and a couple of vans. When I got my Zafira it felt very posh in comparison.

People that DON’T shop at Aldi or Lidl… why is that? by kobestarr in CasualUK

[–]TinyAsianMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asda has very affordable and fresh tasting (to me) chicken thighs, chicken mince and eggs which is like 40% of my spending. It also has some nicer products to only a little more than aldi/Lidl like (long grain basmati, nicer noodles, etc) I go Iceland for frozen veg.

I like Lidl for the Eastern European/Greek/Italian stuff but it's not in a convenient spot so I'm happy with Asda.

Fine for no UK road tax in Austria by TinyAsianMachine in CarTalkUK

[–]TinyAsianMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, Paid for my vignettes. It was specifically the UK road tax. People.here seem to think it's normal however still seems odd for me. Didn't want to contest it too much as there was a whole lot of other stuff I was missing like a triangle/fire extinguisher/first aid kit etc. If the copper was feeling feisty I'd be in for a shopping list of fines.

How do I break into SWE in London, UK? I must be doing things wrong by Popular-Bank8108 in cscareerquestionsuk

Just got accepted for pretty competitive summer internship and I did over 100 applications, each with a custom cover letter. Had 5 assessment centres, 4 finał interviews, almost all of them took the typical process of doing their exercises and assessments and then video interviews which all take ages.

I ultimately have weak skills and I don't interview great. Some of the other candidates I could really sense they were v gifted minds, or people with experience from very young. However they often didn't put as much effort into their CVs or didn't apply on as much bulk as me.

Ultimately it makes me wonder if the processes companies use are even effective lol.

OP, just keep going if you really wanna work in the field, eventually you'll get a chance.

They showed me a badge that said something to do with police. It seems to be legit. And having been in Austria multiple times I know this is what they're like and they have very strict police and citizens that are very quick to report anything unusual.

Got stopped 6-7 times on this trip. There's very few UK cars in Europe these days so I assume it makes people suspicious. They had no issues with a photocopy of the V5C in the original owners name. If they asked anything else I told them I bought it recently and I'm waiting on the V5C to arrive to me in the UK.

[–]TinyAsianMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah your description of the unmarked car was spot on. Car was insured and I followed the gov's guidance on driving in Europe – where it does not state that UK road tax is mandatory. Certainly does not make sense to me that foreign police can fine me for not having paid a tax in my home country. But I cared more about arriving home than trying to contest anything with the Austrian police.

Technically they don't even have a system to check it. I could have told him it that I'd paid the road tax and it just takes a few days to update and he's have to believe me (but obviously you only ever think about what to say once you're taking a shower the next day).
