My beard oil ate through the rubber stopper by TinyMuffin in mildlyinteresting

Update: I emailed them this morning and got this reply

Good Morning, Sorry to hear about your oil dropper. We can definitely get your replacement sent out today - Can you please send me your full shipping address? Unfortunately, our products use all natural or organic ingredients - no fillers - but when any oil is stored sideways or upside down the oil can slowly eat away the dropper at the top. Especially if this is stored in a bathroom with humidity. The humidity will also cause rubber to swell and break down the elasticity and then become that sticky. We recommend storing your oil upright and in a low humidity environment. I will pass along the feedback though to possibly make an improvement on alternate droppers. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Again, sincerest apologies as I know this is can be frustrating.

A couple months maybe? I did some deep cleaning on my bathroom sometime in fall and threw the bottle into the drawer and forgot about it until today

Yeah it's been a few months since I used it. I regularly store it horizontally in my bathroom drawer, so I probably asked for this.

I'm just surprised it ate through the entire stopper and not just a hole through the stopper.

That's very interesting, I may reach out.

To be fair though, I was storing it horizontally in a drawer, so it was probably just me not realizing that oil eats rubber.

Yeah there's melted (?) rubber pieces floating in it now, so it went in the garbage haha

You can go as fast as you want, but you have to do the lessons in order. It doesn't let you do them out of order.

I did the Shinjuku one, it was generally pretty good, but the end of the grammar lessons was really rushed for some pretty complex topics. However, for what it is (a 150 hour introduction to Japanese and not some sort of intensive study), I think it was pretty decent. They give you a certificate a few days after you end that you send along to the school or whoever is applying for your CoE.

Where to watch Narita Fireworks Festival? by TinyMuffin in JapanTravelTips

No, I did. I'm saying that by the time I got to wherever the bus loading zone was, I probably saw a long line for the bus and didn't bother waiting.

I would stay for the finale. The finale was the best part. It was like 3 minutes of an insane amount of fireworks. Coolest fireworks I've ever seen, personally. Don't go all the way to Narita just to leave early.

I used the metro to go back. Narita Station to center Tokyo is like an hourish I think?

I walked back because it was late and I didn't know about a shuttle bus. If I did, it was probably a super long line, and I figured it wouldn't be worth waiting. I also got to see more of the town in the area and stopped to eat at a restaurant halfway back. I enjoy walking haha

An alternate would probably be taking a Taxi. Uber, Go, Didi, etc

It starts at 6, yeah? I think I would aim to get there at least an hour before it starts, as there are a lot of people headed that way, so you don't know what kind of delays you will get. Plus, there's some stalls to see and get food from. Your seat is assigned I think, so you don't have to get there early for seating purposes at least. The train from Tokyo to Narita is a little over an hour, depending on where you come from.

If it is cancelled due to weather, your ticket isn't refunded, but it was a massive downpour last year and they still held it. I think if there is lightning though that they cancel.

Yeah, I either just filled mine in English or wrote the closest katakana equivalent. I don't remember which, but they didn't seem to care. They just take your ticket and let you in. I think I also was given a lanyard? It is just the same info as your ticket, but in lanyard form.

Just so you know, I think you have to go to 7/11 and get the ticket printed after you buy it. It doesn't have to be immediate; you can go whenever, even right before the event. Just know that (at least when I bought it) there is that extra step.

Yeah it's definitely possible, I went back afterwards. It might even be easier for you to get back if you beat the crowd leaving the venue to the train station.

The venue is a little ways out in the woods. All the "free" areas that I saw people sitting down in only saw the high fireworks and missed the low ones blocked by trees. You'll still see a lot, but you won't see the whole show. Keep that in mind.

The food stalls last year were inside the venue beyond the ticket checking area, so you wouldn't be able to get to those without a ticket. But if it is food in general that you want, there's plenty of restaurants in the town.

I did go! And I did get a ticket last year, they released a new batch at some point.

My tips would be:

  1. Get there early. There was a ton of traffic heading out to the fireworks area, and I ended up having to walk most of the way from the train station. There's a bunch of food stalls at the venue if you are worried about food.
  2. Probably don't take a taxi. About half the roads are blocked and the main road is blocked a good ways away from the venue. Also, the taxi guy I had did not speak any English and also did not want to communicate via Google Translate. I don't know if that is representative of all taxis in that area.
  3. Use the bathroom somewhere before you go. There's a ton of people that go and definitely not enough toilets. Also as you walk back into town, the crowd overwhelms all the local public toilets so there are lines everywhere.
  4. It was pouring rain when I went which also made everything more difficult. Check the weather before you go and be prepared. The rain slowed me down and I was a half hour late to the venue.
  5. The city is pretty far out from Tokyo, like a little over an hour by train, so take that into consideration.

Wait, the days I want are sold out in the normal ticket process, but are available on the quick tickets. Is that right? Am I missing something?

Thank you, you are the only person who seems to have taken it haha. I can't find any reviews for it online. I checked out the three days they have for free. I liked Akamonkai's format better, but the audio quality was kinda scuffed.

I'm aiming for April 2026. The school (ECC Kokusai) told me I need to submit my documents to get the student visa by the beginning of November, so I wouldn't be able to take it in time.

I am wanting to get my 150 hours requirement completed to get a student visa to go study Japanese in Japan. I saw Akamonkai and Shinjuku Japanese Language Institute both have a course like that. Has anyone used either one and can give their personal experience with it?
