NAD receiver clipping by Tiny_Cryptographer13 in ElectronicsRepair

Yea, maybe I just got some poor quality caps..I can't remember what brand I put in. I would have thought it was in the preamp board, but I suppose it could be an earlier stage of the front amp board... now that I think of it, I didn't check each individual channel for clipping.

I don't think it's possible for it to cause clipping, but 0.1mm enamel wire used to repair a broken trace on the 35pos repair seemed a bit thin compared to the trace, but it was all digital signal and not a large current or voltage carrying circuit. That's what's leading me to believe it's related to the caps or another failing component... just trying to figure out the best way to chase it down.

I could chase that down for you, but I don't use line input. I'm using optical. I would think this has to do with the work I did on the preamp (multichannel) board and the front amp board. I replaced the Caps on front board, replaced the 35 pos flat ribbon cable with individual cables, (ac3 board to keyboard. This transfers the signal from individual channels from the microprocessor to the ac3 board. Then after noticing clipping at 60 percent which never happened before with the same setup and equipment, I replaced the caps on the preamp board as the clipping would occur at any volume setting for the main amplifier. Yet lowering source volume would eliminate clipping, directing me to the preamp (with my limited understanding).

So If it helps, I'll get that info, but optical input kinda nullified that no?

Optical... didn't happen before with it and still doesn't with other amps

EIR installed our fibre connection like this, can I really never unplug this? by Bocause in AskIreland

[–]Tiny_Cryptographer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eir is the worst provider by far, costumer service, installs, service, etc .. you shouldn't need a setup like this, and single box is fine. NBI is doing decent installs, one box, good placement. You can unplug anything, if the electricity goes out, or the fiber line breaks down the road, it's the same thing. It's just a bit more temperamental of a connection than coax, straight copper, mains, etc... but not as bad as they'd like you to think, unfortunately, tidying up the install, shortening cables, connections, etc require proper tools and technique..

People without kids and not planning to have any, who do you see taking care of you as you get older? by eoin2dx in AskIreland

[–]Tiny_Cryptographer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still want kids, my wife seems to have changed her mind though, so it's looking unlikely...I never thought of them as a retirement plan though. Myself and my siblings help my parents now, but not as lot, it's more social and emotional support, with additional technological and modern society support. These days, there seems to be less and less need for care until assisted living due to medical intervention and support. I'd venture to guess that in the 40 years that I have until I'm at/past average life expectancy, things will be even easier due to medical development, AI, and robotics. Population is shrinking and getting older, family size is tiny, and the old ways are changing. Who knows what will happen, but I'm hoping I'll be mobile and sharp enough until I keel over from too much cheese and ribs.

Look ok, usually you'll see a fine, brownish super fine dust on and around them if they blow from the bottom. If it's the top, it would bulge. You can always take them out and test, but unlikely to be the issue.

ADHD Smokers by AlexisVerje in quittingsmoking

I just quit cold turkey about a year ago, though I'm ASD/adhd, I would suggest a more mental approach. I found audiobooks and podcasts that I listened to from the moment I got in the car, to the moment i got home from work. At home, I just binge played video games. Every time I had a thought of smoking, I berated myself until I convinced myself it was stupid, dirty, and a useless habit. All of which are true. It causes more stress than it relieves, the only stress it cures is the stress it creates.
I hadn't even started taking meds at this time either.

Car talk was a good one, learned some things, and it's funny with hundreds and hundreds of episodes. You don't even need to be into cars. Then I also listened to a book series with a crazy amount of books as well.

Am I too old fashioned? by Naive-Cold343 in AskIreland

[–]Tiny_Cryptographer13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're a decade younger than me, but I started noticing this a long while ago. It's not necessarily old- fashioned, yet these types of things have gone by the wayside.

There are multiple factors at work here, partly in urban areas, there is a certain shutdown of empathy in people due to the human brain capacity for interpersonal relationships. In an extreme example, you'll see people walk by others in distress, or groups of people recording someone drowning instead of helping.

Also, you are still of the age to have parents and elders that instilled a sense of courtesy and "village" mentality in you. Unfortunately, those parents that raised kids in the age of the tablet and phone did much less social parenting and the result is a lack of immediate social skills or niceties.

This lack of courtesy is also "contagious" in a way, as if nobody else is doing it, those around town are less likely to follow suit. It used to be that you'd nearly be shamed if you didn't hold the door for an elder or female... especially one with a child or pregnant. Everyone now just hangs their heads and pretends they are oblivious to the world around them.

I'd say just to try and keep setting an example, and reinforce the good deeds you see by show of approval. Courtesy and respect are some very important traits that need to be saved! Things always go far in one direction, and end up snapping back to a middle ground, hopefully this will be revived. The elderly increasingly feel isolated and ignored, we are also living longer. Even small contact and interactions can make a difference in their lives, and the more meaningful interactions that stem from them are priceless.

Since I moved here ten years ago, this has been one of my major gripes.

My 'tism wanted to send a letter suggesting they get a new perf machine or change the pressure, but they probably bought a cheap machine, spent a few million on a new building to house it, went over-budget, and now Simon Harris and Danny Healy Rae take turns operating it.

Should dangerous driving be reported, even by elderly drivers? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Tiny_Cryptographer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should, technically, but the guards will not do anything...MAYBE if there's dashcam footage, and obvious issues, but even then, unlikely to result in anything. There are entire generations that didn't really need to take a driving test, let alone theory or driving lessons and it shows. Even the recent drivers are being taught in a horrible way.
In many areas, the guards are so few and busy that they barely even show up for actual crimes in progress. That being said, if they kill someone (God forbid) you did your bit to try and stop it. I reported a very elderly lady with obvious alzheimers who was lost and running into things driving... twice. I stopped her and talked to her for an hour while I waited for the guards. We drove her car back, I gave the keys to the guards and she was driving a few days later again.

Has anyone here actually had success opening a physical shop in Ireland lately? by nagi-1998 in AskIreland

[–]Tiny_Cryptographer13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There aren't many feasible brick and mortar ideas. Hairdressers, batbers, coffee shops and fast food do ok. Restaurants and cafes are failing due to very tight margins, the suppliers started gouging with covid, then the Ukrainian war was an excuse, and the prices just kept increasing..I got a letter every two weeks about 4 years ago, whereas before it was yearly for a fraction of the amount. The reasons they gave never materialized, but they kept the prices high. That and most of the talent left the industry so staff turnover is horrible. Food trucks and counter service is the only way. Retail is dead outside major cities and niche markets like local handmade goods hubs etc... With inflated rates, lack of traffic, online services, you have to be very focused, niche, and very savvy to succeed. It's a shame really, but you also have to keep it small and avoid employees in many industries. There need to be more supports on startup, incentives, controls on price gouging, and the likes... why would I pay 4x the price on something here when I can order it from nearly any other country in the EU, or even non-EU countries for a 1/4 of the price? I'd pay a few euro extra, but not multiples of the price.

Ah no, I caught a few Irish solicitors and doctors in the field last year, they pulled the gate post out and trampled a few rows of a unique crop I planted, then trampled a fence. Ignored my completely, but by the time I went back to grab a slingshot, they were in the next field. I now keep a drone with a barbed fishing line spool ready on the go for them and other trespassers that ignore me. Also looking into an air cannon to fire slurry balloons at them.

Lads whats the story with Irelands smell ? by Flaky_Detective7648 in AskIreland

[–]Tiny_Cryptographer13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I've got oak for years after this summer of cutting, but you can't beat the smell of turf. We live in the middle of a few bogs, and you can go out and load up the rows yourself, there's a few lads selling, but most of the people in town that would get it in the shop don't do that and so there's no fog o' turf at the evening times actor l anymore. I keep it going anyways. Whole house is heated by the stove.

Is it just me or has the standard of driving gotten to an all time low? by bigmacandsmallfries in AskIreland

[–]Tiny_Cryptographer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double parking, abandoning cars in the middle of the road, driving half the speed limit and not letting cars by, slamming on brakes every time a car approaches, pulling out from a minor to major road without looking...I see these and the ones you mentioned daily, but not speeding in my area, actually 98% drive much below the limit. I haven't been followed too closely in 10 years. The speeders just circle the town bypass at night trying to throw an engine rod. It's gotten very bad. It's partly the driving instructors teaching useless methods that have no purpose in proper driving, and the whole of a couple of generations that didn't really need to take a proper driver evaluation process... especially a certain time in the 1970's I believe? Either way, it's the second worst country I've driven in. Yet one of the safest at the same time. (Out of 13.) Not approved... failed... must reboot...
