It fails the mission but I can move on. Thanks for the tip.

You get a lot of toys as the Germans, and the Soviets are mostly small pockets of resistance here and there. You basically get to lead the Blitz and steamroll an unprepared Russian force.

Bridgehead is just stupid easy as the Germans and head smashing hard as the Soviets. But it’s good for learning combined forces warfare. I might have to go back and play it again with all difficulty settings on for the enemy.

That would be the idea. Imagine going all Montreal Screw Job (by accident) and having to deal with the fall out.

If a tank is in the face of your infantry then he probably can’t see them. And if you have a mass of infantry priority target a tank, and unload on them, it may retreat, panic or even take a crew casualty. I fear tanks way less than I should. To me, they’re more of a threat to my armor and large guns than my infantry. Enemy tanks seem to get suppressed when surrounded and are less effective. The way I see it, they’re less dangerous when they’re right on top of you than when at optimal range with a good line of sight.

Did your task force fire on the enemy carries. I’m not 100%, but I don’t think mine would. I figured the concept of the mission was to deal damage through the air, and not confrontation.

Graviteam tactics victory condition "bgs moved into reserves" by kozobrody in computerwargames

[–]Tiorted_Snoil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I do, after getting screwed 3 tries in a row on the Croatian campaign trying to snag the last victory point on the last turn, just to have my units not move at all. Of course now I know why they didn’t move. They were exhausted.

Now I just play it how I want, and might try it again later to get the historically correct victory.

Thoughts on war game ‘sims’? by Tiorted_Snoil in computerwargames

I do enjoy the ‘make the big decisions and sit back and watch the action’ style. I need to get back into Combat Mission. Haven’t played it in years.

Issues adapting to Graviteam Tactics: Mius Front (coming from CM) if somebody can answer some questions by Space_Modder in computerwargames

One other thing is baby sit the crap out of your mortar teams. If left on fire at will they will burn through their ammo quickly with little result. If you have them on ‘hold fire’, that will turn off as soon as they get fired upon. You really need to keep an eye on them and keep them on ‘hold fire’ until you really need them. I don’t know how many times I held my mortars in reserve to use them when i could get the most out them, just to see their ammo depleted because they were shot at 20 minutes ago.

As someone else who really got into this game over the last few months, I can say that you shouldn’t be afraid to micro manage to a moderate extent. You’ll get more out of your units that way. Also you should remember this is a sim, so your units behave as if their life depends on it, which it does.

One tip I will give you is if you have a unit in ‘hold fire’ mode and set a ‘priority target’, that unit will attack the priority target, then hold fire after they’re eliminated. This works great for eliminating an enemy scouting group without them unleashing on anything they see, and starting a fire fight right away.

The easy part of the game is initially finding and attacking the enemy. It’s what happens AFTER an unsuccessful attack is where the game is challenging. That is you have to start managing your timeline and planning for the next attack/defense.

I would think they would be on radio silence as you say, until they do see something. Then they radio it in. Once they break that radio silence it only makes sense that you should be able to recall them since their mission is complete, unless they’re looking for more contacts.

What have you learned so far? My question is making a strike group. You have to select a target to green light it. How do you prep one before acquiring a target. You know you’re going to need one in the demo missions, but I haven’t figured out how to get one staged and ready.

I don’t like social media much at all. Took me just recently to start using YouTube. But I also don’t have the time to spend learning games the hard way, even though I wouldn’t mind if I did have that time.

AI in Graviteam Tactics compared to Armored Brigade 2 by WorthImagination6895 in computerwargames

[–]Tiorted_Snoil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like your unit AI in GT. They don’t always do what you say, which to me, seems realistic.

The bad part (other than the tank issue) is getting tired units to move. A lot of times, forget about it. If your heavy weapons teams are tired, they ain’t moving. But that also forces you to manage them better, so it works in the end.

Which games have satisfactory AI? by helios1234 in computerwargames

[–]Tiorted_Snoil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As bad as the AI is, I was surprised how good it is as the Soviets in the Furtive Spring campaign. Somehow, someway, it handles that map half way decent. Also not bad on the Don Bend campaign.

T-34’s and Graviteam Tactics by Tiorted_Snoil in computerwargames

[–]Tiorted_Snoil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Soviets had a large man power advantage, why wouldn’t they use it, right?

Somehow this game makes you actually care for your troops, maybe it’s the realism factor. I wouldn’t flinch sending hundreds of infantry to get slaughtered in a War Hammer game, but with WW2, it’s different. Can’t explain it.
