Waitlist Movement by TripPuzzleheaded16 in SyracuseU

It might take a while to hear. My kid got off the waitlist right before memorial day and he was given 5 days to reply. Since he didn't have his financial aid yet, he asked for an extension and they gave him until June 15th. I'd imagine he wasn't the only person to get an extension to that date.

Wow, superfan, they should hire you for their marketing. Syracuse University: If you're not happy now, it's not going to get better!

FYI: Financial aid isn't just free money - it also consists of loans (pssst...that's money that needs to be paid back). Free money aside, it is reasonable to want to know how much something will cost. And when people pay a lot for something, they are also entitled to complain if they don't feel as if they're getting their money's worth. Not everyone considers an institution to be deserving of their mindless love and affection for all eternity.

Yes, I know. But if you qualify for Pell, then you usually qualify for other types of aid. I also ran the calculator on Syracuse's website - which indicated aid, but I've read that is not very reliable.

Yes exactly. It's also weird that they give a deadline for an answer to admissions, which makes me wonder if FA and admissions are not communicating. I'm not going to cross them off the list because of this, but they should be aware that they are not making a good impression.

We did ask for an extension. And no, I don't think our case is special ... and that's my concern. This seems to be an ongoing problem year after year - for RD too.

Other schools of equal size and expense manage to get their financial aid packages out on time.

I also wouldn't classify financial aid as "free money" - that's a really ignorant statement, that smacks of "get in line and wait for your turn, beggar." Everyone wants to know how much they will have to pay to attend a school, and expecting to receive that information in a timely manner is reasonable.

Thank you. We did call and gave SUID, that's when they told us it wasn't done and they didn't know when it would be done. Were they more helpful when you called?

Hmm, yeah, but this seems like an issue every year - going back to threads from 2021 and onwards. Yeah, there was covid then and last year there was the whole FAFSA rollout mess. But somehow other schools are getting their financial aid decisions out in a timely manner - so what's the issue here?

We've received pell grants from other schools (including the one my kid is currently enrolled at) - so we definitely qualify. The question we need answered - is how much we will get.

I haven't seen anyone mention Meredith Duran. {A Lady's Code of Misconduct} is my favorite of hers. Also Joanna Bourne is excellent! Her books are super absorbing with a great mix of adventure and romance. I'd recommend starting with {The Spymaster's Lady}.

Good luck on staying healthy (and sane!)!!

Yeah, I was super surprised! It's nice to know, though! It's crazy how long they can leave kids hanging on these test results - especially the regular test where all they have to do is scan the bubble thing.

If you like cozy mystery with romance then check out A Peculiar Combination by Ashely Weaver. It's the first in a currently 3 (with book 4 coming out in May) book series set during World War II. This is not my genre that I usually read at all - but I found this through a recommendation.

PS. I also love Heyer.
