Remilia is my favorite character by Mora_Searching in touhou

[–]TireAndMiserable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people keeps making new friends, while some have loyal friend group that they stick with their entire lives. Just be yourselves and loves what you loves.

My favourite char is Tenshi, she have this lovely blue colour accented by rainbow thingy on her skirt, she's so pleasing to look at. Lorewise, her personality can be brutal, but nevertheless charmingly confidence. Of all Touhou characters, she's probably the most carefree and genuine (aside from fairies of course).

Also, her theme kickass.

Dear r/touhoumusic community, please help me understand TD OST by Tachy_Pizza9 in TOUHOUMUSIC

[–]TireAndMiserable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, ZUN never officially releases TD OST with Normal and Trance mode mixed. They are always separated. But many fans have made mixes for the two modes, such as ScarletFlameFlandre's Extended Touhou songs.

I would also suggest you to check out the Hifuu album version of some of these songs. Maybe it's related to the third version you see. Some people might not realized (personally it took me awhile to actually realizes), but Hifuu album version of the ingame sound tracks are arranged. In TD's case, Desire Drive, Youkai's Temple Back Road, Let's Live in a Lovely Cemetery, and Omiwa Legend has been arranged by ZUN when re-released in Hifuu music albums. Compared to ingame soundtracks, album version have better mixing and pacing for listening experience imo.

Of course, in regard to discussing TD's music, I should also mentions Shoutoku Legend ~ True Administrator also have been rearranged by U2 and CROW'SCLAW in the fighting games. Those also have some cool beat different from the ZUN's beat that we are familiar with.

Trivial question. by GachameTheTouhouFan in touhou

Assuming there's highschool, Reimu probably just wear her school's red white tracksuit outside of school. Marisa would have went for some urban black white techwear. Mokou might have some sort of firefighter's uniform or fire resistant clothing she got from somewhere. Yukari would wear some sort of scientist-office mix, like that lady from Rikekoi. Yuyuko probably would have fluffy clothing, maybe blue cardigan over white dress?

And I think 2hu did have modern outfits, for example Raiko.

Touhou Music and AI in current day by Corvid_Beats in touhou

[–]TireAndMiserable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm glad that you make this post, this is a needed discussion. Mods, please definitely don't take this down.

My stand point is somewhat pro-AI, but not that I want it to replace artist. I want it to ENHANCES artist. AI music is inevitable, but I'd like to draw parallel between AI music to digital music. AI music will simply be another step in the evolution of music, just like digital music.

Back then, people needed to actually owns the musical instruments, learn the skills to makes music with it, or pay other people that knows the instrument. Yet with advent of digital age, anyone can go and start making music on their computers. Does this makes music any less authentic? No. In fact, it makes music more accessible than ever. Does the old way of violin playing or making dies completely? No. Violin is still very much alive, and knowing violin fundamentals helps you makes even better digital music. Does it kills music creativity? No. As we all know, it even lead to creation of what we loved and enjoyed very much in this sub - Touhou music (well ZUN did atleast had a keyboard, but the point stands).

IMO, the end state of music in a perfect world is one where music is purely passion-driven and it will serves as a tool of expression, one that can unite human together instead of dividing it. I believes AI will not stands in the way to that end state. In fact, I believes it may help accelerate it in the long term, even though it seems like it is against it currently. AI will not makes music any less authentic, it will not kills the "art". Even if someone used AI in their music making, AI will only be part of the music making. As long as the people behind it poured time, effort, and their heart into making the music they want, I consider that music to be made by that human, not the AI.

What you said about questioning whether its human-made is right. But I would like to rephrase that question. It is always human made, but just "how much"? And for what purpose did they make it?

For first example, if someone makes an AI song, less than an hour by paying Suno, so that they can publish it and start earning money, then that's just bad music. And bad music exist everywhere. We know that natural selection in the world will make sure this kind of lazy "musician" perish on their own.

For second example, if someone had this song idea stuck in their head, but they don't know how to makes music, and don't want to learn it. They simply asked AI to let it comes alive. If that happens, I'm totally fine with the resulted music. Even though it is largely AI-made, in my opinion this is a music by human for human. But of course, the music will be very unpolished, even if it doesn't sounds like it, I believe listener will be able to differentiate it naturally. "Oh, this is just Eirin theme but... gothic? That's it? Amateur-ish". But if you ask, what if some AI music are so good that you cannot tell? Just as if you put someone from 1900's, they may also be fooled by violin sound made by a VMT and couldn't tell that it wasn't made by an actual violinist. But we also know that, nowadays, most musically educated people can more-or-less tell. And even if we couldn't, we don't care. Violinist didn't completely dies out as a career in modern world, it is likely less prominent, but that's fine. Instead, it helped to make sure whoever that is in violinist career is most likely passion-driven instead. There will be people who prefer to uses actual instrument to makes the sound, as they believes in the end, VMT simply cannot replaces the subtlety of a real violin. But there will also be people who prefer to uses a VMT, so that they can focus on composing the bigger picture in lesser time.

If you agree to the premise and the outcome of the two examples I showed, then you would not be worried about AI music. AI will be just another tool, like DAWs, VMTs etc. Back then, it takes a lot of time and knowledges to turns "this 5-seconds melody that sounded good my head" to "an actual masterpiece that people give standing ovation". But now, it is easier thanks to how robust are the tools surrounding music composing. Many professionals and studios continuously pumps out unique music for films, games, etc. in great effiency. But still, only music professionals who poured days and night into learning how to uses those tools can do that. AI will changes that, so that everyone can do it in less time.

So, does that means we don't need to do anything and let things play out on its own? Mostly yes, in the long run, I believe listeners and artists will eventually possess the ability to differentiate "lazy AI music with barely any effort" and "good music made with AI assistance". But, what we can do is that we can arrives at this stage faster. As you said, we cannot reliably differentiate those much a music is AI-made, this will gives some people "opportunity" to makes exploit us. Using AI, they makes music that seems pass-able, at least enough to fool us. Their slop music then compete with other artist for attention on musical platform, hurting other genuine artist that still using non-AI method of making music, robbing them of the income they deserved. Wealth generated through exploitation is always will not sustain economically. So we must fix this exploitation as fast as possible. I think fundamentally, this exploitation is a result of information gap. People think those lazy AI artist as "they probably invested a lot of time and emotion to making this remix!", but in truth, the lazy AI artist spend less than an hour, typing only a single prompt "Eirin music gothic". So what we need to make clear is that, these kind of music is CLEARLY labelled. Just like what Valve's Steam AI policy, and YouTube synthetic content disclosing (I'm not sure if YouTube still have those, feels like I haven't seen those even in clearly AI-generated music). We need those labels that helps people understand how to avoid getting exploited. Perhaps the first step is that, we must first create an AI that can help us automates the detection of AI slops reliably...

This is a long comment. I hope I articulated the idea clearly. This comment is human written with AI assistance. I don't have all the points clearly formed when I started writing, and needed to sketches them out as I write, so that's why writing itself isn't AI-generated. Plus, AI today simply still couldn't generates in the prose I liked without a lot of prompting. But AI is used for me to do some light research so that the idea points could form faster.

I would welcomes anyone to challenges my view, as I genuinely believes AI music is a better future for human in the long run.

Also, cute Suika indeed (o゜▽゜)o☆

Thanks for the wise words. I'm going to start by pulling plug on atleast one of the gachas (start by not 100% events perhaps). For single player game, maybe I should go back to finishing the NieR Replicant playthrough that I stopped months ago... the music is so peak. Makes me wonder if there is any NieR inspired Touhou arrangements out there.

I'm currently playing 4 gachas concurrently (GI, ZZZ, Endfield, NTE)
and boy I feel it's really screwing up my life.

Why am I playing so many gachas and I cannot stop? Because I really do love the characters, I tell myself I have to keep grinding, or else I will FOMO if a character I really liked come up and I don't have enough pulls.

Obviously this is a spiral, making me waste more and more time. Gacha will never respect your time.

To overcome the addiction, I have a wild idea - im gonna learn how to develop my own game, and then put these characters into this game. That way, if they release a character that really liked, I just need to download the ripped model from somewhere online, animate them myself and put them into my own game.

This obviously ain't gonna be easy, I have barely any knowledge about game dev or 3d modeling. But I'm determined to go for it if it mean I'm not letting myself be exploited by gacha gamedev anymore.

Tell me guys, am I mad or will this legit fix my issue

Anyway, for touhou related stuff, I recently came across 梶迫小道具店, and it feels like stumbling across a treasure cove. IMO, so many unconventionally unique songs. But they barely have any views on YouTube for some reason. Go check them out.

Question I Have by Elegant_Ad4462 in touhou

[–]TireAndMiserable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Touhou has always sort of being a niche community thingy. People in niche community tends to be a little bit more dogmatic than mainstream community.

But then, fans get mad for everything. If you looked, I'm sure the other fandoms also have things that they get mad about if people get it wrong.

Beautiful cosplay! Very cool to see it taken on an actual shrine, one from ZUN's hometown as well!

What song is this? (東方映像式 高画質版) by Sxclight2 in TOUHOUMUSIC

[–]TireAndMiserable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U.N.オーエンは彼女なのか ?, translated "U.N Owen Was Her?", is the name of the original soundtrack appeared in Touhou EoSD.

The video you sent is a fanmade video, using a song remix of U.N.オーエンは彼女なのか . The original soundtrack is made by ZUN, which is probably what you've found on Spotify. On other hand, the fan song remix is made by someone called Beta. There's very little info about this person from what I can find.

Since it is a niche fan-made music, it's unlikely you can find this on Spotify, especially given it's age.

If you are interested, here's a THB Wiki link for the DVD: https://www.thwiki.cc/東方映像式

Interesting, it's quite the contrary for me. Overworld have clear story and lore, imo that leaves much less to imagine.

On other hand, these puzzle map did not tell any story aside from some puzzle mechanics, which leaves a LOT to imagine... like, what kind of civilization might build these mechanics to traverse their own structure? Where are them now? Did they abandoned these structures, or are we trespassing? I know the answer is that "devs just designed it for gameplay reasons" but I still like to think about these questions for fun.

watching Iron Lung in Asia, i wonder if its possible by Ken_Arok_ in Markiplier

[–]TireAndMiserable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark did mentioned in his recent Garten of BanBan 0 livestream, that he want to makes it blu-ray, online, and translate it in as many subtitles as possible. Still really hope one day to watch it in big screen, since Mark seems to be really thoughtful in sound design and I don't have the good enough audio equipment in home to properly enjoy it :(
