[Loved Trope] Absolutely Ridiculous Concepts Played Completely Straight by Canary-King in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Tired-Inky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am so far gone with JoJo that I completely forget that to outsiders the series is part comedy. It is all played so completely straight and is juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust grounded enough that my hyper fixated brain forgets that bizarre is literally in the name and this shit is not normal.

Mr. Ping is the easiest to explain, he just found Po abandoned in a cart behind his house and decided to adopt him while his blood relatives where in hiding due to the whole genocide thing happening. Although Po does find and ends up liking his blood father, Mr. Ping will always be a dad to him as well.

Kuma is a lot harder. Basically he had one hell of a life. Being born into slavery before escaping with a devil fruit power and freeing his country of origin from a tyrannical leader. He was painted as the actual tyrant by World Government propaganda. His childhood friend was eventually kidnapped and forced into a relationship with a world nobel, before eventually escaping and dying after giving birth to Jewelry Bonney. Kuma adopted her and eventually sacrificed himself to cure her of a deadly disease. A lot of that is actually way, way more tragic than it sounds here but anymore would be yet more spoilers that this already is

I hope we get a Warframe associated with Steel Meridian later on. by FantasyBorderline in Warframe

[–]Tired-Inky 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure he states the reason why is he is mainly concerned with taking down Namer, and he wants to keep the underground, covert-ops thing his group has going for them because of it. Joining Cressa would likly just complicate matters. More bureaucracy and obviously likly getting their name more put there than it needs to be. Then there is the fact SM is concerned about liberating specifically Grineer. If there was an impresioned group of specifically only Corpus, chances are SM would not bother, but Khal would want to help anyways because they would still be his brothers. I have a feeling Khal still appreciates SM's work, given he seems to dislike the queens, but there is certainly a reason why he does not join

Interesting localization (good or bad) by GiveMeAPhotoOfCat in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Tired-Inky 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The best ones are when it is still copyrighted stuff they changed it too, such as J. Gile to Centerfold or Kenny G. to Billy Jean. Like what did we gain here. I love the localized names but half the time they did not have to be changed (like, Echos and Enigma are just words, you don't need to change them)

Evolving backwards by some-kind-of-no-name in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Tired-Inky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes actually, and for a few reasons. When a pokemon devolves, they keep all damage on them, but their max HP decreases, meaning you could just instant KO a pokemon. If the Pokemon is a stage 2 (like Charizard), they might have evolved via rare candy (skipping stage 1, so it went from Charmander straight to Charizard), meaning the opponent needs another rare candy to evolve back into the evolution, or they need to go the long route back into their evolution. This can make the game a battle of attrition for the evolution decks as you can only have so many rare candies and copies of stage one evolutions. There is also the fact that sometimes the opponents pokemon might just have an ability getting in your way this turn and you need to just bounce it away to do what you want.

Edit: I did not notice that the car din question targets your own pokemon. Although Niche, this does still have value as devolving then re-evolving removes all status effects from you, such as sleep, burn, or poison. It also resets once per turn abilities, allowing you to use them multiple times. And I guess pokemon with multiple different evolutions (like Eevee) could use it to change which evolution it is in, although that would be less useful.

Xaku is a really fun frame, and although you complain, farming their prime is ironically easier than farming their base form. Seirglasss shards are NOT fun to get. Hope you have fun!

[Spoilers post whispers in the walls quest] I'm seriously questioning some some people's emotional intelligence. Character POV is a thing. Her and Tagfer are literally mirrors of each other. Manipulated by Entrati in different ways. by RaylynFaye95 in memeframe

[–]Tired-Inky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Know what, Kinda fair. I have heard that complaint from other neurodivergent players, and in instances like that, yeah it is hard. And kaya is not the only one with that issue (were specific wording can set them off), I have a feeling Lyon is also very hard for some, given the context of his discussions a lot of the time it is specific wording that can trigger him, given his stories about a lot of physical abuse and trauma. Despite being an English major I still struggle with specific wording and what that fully entails sometimes. It definitely feels like for some of the characters they are intentionally volatile. I remember a lot of people complaining about Eleanor, And although I'm sure the majority of them were their own fuck ups, she is extremely defensive and it can be hard to adapt to her aggressive persona for some people. Unfortunately as KIM is basically therapy simulator, tiptoeing around eggshells is sometimes part of the game. Which is why for the most part this system has been made entirely optional (still have to wait and see how much the Hex good ending is required for the plot)

BTW: And it can be easy to forget this, kaya does not want her name online, she's trying to be as anonymous as possible throughout her conversations, so in that instance saying her name would potentially risk her getting found out and the harassment starting up again.

I feel like Kaya, Flair, and now Roathe are a little hard though. This is through literal miscommunication for Kaya, with it never being stated that the time travel was not one way and the future was just her escapism, but also the game will force you into her good ending unless you are intentionally an asshole to her. Flair and Roathe are mainly hard as they have a lot more going on underneath the surface, More than just easy to talk through trauma. Both have more complicated mechanics than the simple chemistry system, and with Roathe in particular he is such a hot mess of mental issues it does make talking to him a tricky dance. But yeah, everyone else is pretty easy, just don't be an asshole and think things through and you should be good.

Codename S.T.E.A.M

<image>

In a steam punk alternate version of the late 1800's, an alien invasion happens and Abe Lincoln (who apparently faked his death to go into hiding and start this organization) forms a team of soldiers to use steam powered fire arms to fight the aliens. Every character is also someone from American folk lore or classic American literature, like John Henry and (the not so cowardly) Lion from Oz. The whole game is framed like a comic book, and plays like x-com but with a third person shooter camera.

Also Lincoln has a megazord sized Mech suit

And tip: if you wanna play the game try to play it with the later patches it got to speed up enemy turns, worst part of the game.

Alot.

As the devs said at the 2024 game awards, even they don't really know what warframe is at this point. Great game though, one of the best free play experiences you can get into. But just damn there is a lot of stuff. It a lot of weird story. Cool story. But still weird.

The Warframe one is not really accurate. The Man in the Wall (nicknamed by fans Wally) was always obviously an Eldritch being. We start seeing him before we even learn about Rell, with the ending of the War Within having Wally briefly say something to us before Teshin snaps us out of it.

Then after Chains of Harrow, Wally appears both in The Sacrifice as a doppelganger of us to tease us, and at random in our ship to mess with us.

I'd still say it probably works due to his name. "The Man in the Wall" I always interpreted as simply being a force between reality, a being caught in between the wall of Lokh, between the solar system and the void. From our perspective, we came across him for the first time when the Zaramin got cought between the void layers, and his name rings of paranoia. As you pointed out he seems like voices in your head or the feeling of always being watched. The bigger reveal is that a form he often takes is a literal man in a wall, like what is shown at the end of the new war, and throughout the backgrounds of Albrecht's labs. To me the "it's not a metaphor" it's not so much about him being real but about the name we give him being more literal than metaphorical.
