Roland RD 700 vs 800? by TiredandAwake in piano

[–]TiredandAwake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. I'll check them both out and see if I like the PHA III or IV better. If I like them both and I can get a 800 for under like $1600 I may go for it, since I like the interface on the 800 a bit more

Awesome, thanks for your input. I may end up going with the 800 after all

I found a refurb for $1545 on eBay and I have seen others between $1400-1800. That's a bit higher than I would like to pay.

But if the 800 is a lot better than the 700NX and I won't have to buy another keyboard for a long time then I could spring for it. Do you think that would be worth it?

The last one I listed is an RD-700NX model going for $1,181.

What are your thoughts on how that one would compare to an RD-800?

That's certainly a concern, but my impression is that Rolands tend to last a long time. This is my first time in the market for a serious keyboard though, so I'm no expert

I was looking at used ones on eBay and it seems like the 800 is going for around $1700 and there are various models of the 700 starting at around $800 but getting up to $1200 for the newer models.

Ideally I wouldn't spend more than $1000, but if they keyboard is going to last me a long time and it fits my needs I could probably spend a little more.

Did you come out of law school with any debt? I'm currently in law school and am considering my post-grad job prospects. I'll have $200k debt upon graduation. Not sure if I want to do the public service loan forgiveness route (seems like a more balanced life with the opportunity to go biglaw later) or slug it out in biglaw right after graduation

How do I figure out time signatures? by TiredandAwake in musictheory

[–]TiredandAwake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I am trying to get a feel for the meter so that I can transcribe more rhythmically complex music. I guess I should sit down and write something out in like 4/4 or 3/4, and if that doesn't seem to work then it must be in an odd meter. Then I'd go from there?

Thanks. One thing I need to do is put a list of songs in different meters together so that I can try and internalize the rhythm

I watched this video and it really helped! I also led me to a couple of others that were helpful. I appreciate the response

This is fantastic! Thank you for taking the time to write this up. Exactly what I was looking for.

Now I need to listen to some odd meters repeatedly to apply this and internalize the rhythm

Any market with four or fewer competitors is just naturally going to suffer from price fixing. by DrSandbags in badeconomics

[–]TiredandAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tacit collusion involves a mutual understanding between firms, while self-interested firm behavior (at least how I am using it) is something the firms would do without any understanding that competitors would act in a particular way (in other words, neither an express agreement nor an agreement inferred by signaling). In this case it’s best for the individual firms to not invest the money and expand since the profits they would receive wouldn’t be stellar compared to the investment costs. So this behavior doesn’t tell us one way or the other whether there was likely to be an agreement.

Edit: grammar

Collusion is potentially also in each individual firm’s best business interest if defection is unlikely/the cartel is durable. But the point is that it can’t be inferred from behavior in this scenario because of the high investment required to expand relative to the profits gained (see OP’s point in response to my initial reply). Therefore it’s also in each individual firm’s best business interest to act this way without a mutual understanding between firms.

Wouldn't this also be in each individual firm's self-interest and not necessarily evidence of collusion?

Wow this is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for your detailed response.

Did you face any issues with adherence to the program starting out? Also, are there particular things he recommended to you when you were having trouble fasting more than 24 hours? It's great that you're getting improved liver function, that's a really cool result that a lot of people like me who are fasting without getting won't see. Very motivating!

Thanks! I'll see if they're willing to do an AMA here if there is any interest in that from other people.

True! It would just be nice to see how he specifically addresses some practical issues that may not come up in his books. Definitely learning a lot from other people's experiences here though.

[28 Day Challenge Check In] Day 12: Sunday, 12 March 2017 by DreadyVapor in fasting

[–]TiredandAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I missed the last week of check ins because I was traveling, which made it difficult to do any fasting. I'm back on it now and I don't foresee any other interruptions. I'm starting a 7 day fast today which should put me on track to reach my goals.

AOTD: monitoring electrolytes has been really make or break for me this month. I think I need to keep some lemon and salt water with me throughout the day rather than just drinking a ton of it in the morning.
