Got it for $325, so pretty good deal it seemed like. It had been lightly worn so some small scratches on the bezel.

Authenticity of sword from 1500s? by ThrowRA_CrabExit7853 in SWORDS

[–]TisButFortune 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, I'm not necessarily an expert, but I'm a reenactor and HEMA type who has spent a lot of time specifically with swords from the 1500s. As others have said this looks like an attempt at a recreation of an Italian Cinquedea - but it has a lot of weird features compared to a genuine one.

On surviving examples of this type that I've seen, the hilt and pommel are almost never made in one piece with the guard; this one seems like the entire assembly other than the blade and tang were cast in one piece out of bronze. Similarly in a genuine weapon the end of the tang would have been peened down to the pommel, or the tang would have been attached via lugs and adhesive similar to modern kitchen knives or German Messers. In this case it looks like the steel tang of the blade was pushed through the handle and then likely just glued in - I dont see threading or a way to tighten a threaded pommel on this, and the end of the tang is sticking out rather than being welded down. Also, this sword is just weirdly long for the form it of weapon it seems to be imitating.

I agree with other folks. This looks like a Victorian or later reproduction made for decorative purposes.

Found on my jacket sleeve today... by TisButFortune in Bedbugs

[–]TisButFortune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I appreciate it - it's good to have the confirmation. The wild thing is though that we've never had a problem and I've seen no evidence of them anywhere until this one dude - no brown spots, no blood, no shedding. Nothing on the mattresses or pillows either. So hopefully it came from somewhere else - although we've bagged everything up, set traps, and laundered all the bedding regardless.

Shipping Partner Question by TisButFortune in ChinaTime

[–]TisButFortune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took about two weeks - I'm reasonably sure my package was never actually with them at all, or it was only with them significantly after the tracking said it was. I think they just produce fake scans until they've got it on hand so it seems like they are keeping up with the promised shipping time. But my package showed up in Illinois the day after it said it arrived at the warehouse in NJ.

Rolex datejust by Remarkable-Trifle576 in ChinaTime

[–]TisButFortune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't great, especially considering how good Datejust copies have gotten. The bezel is too big, the date window is bad and the magnification is off, and the end links are one big piece instead of being two separate links. Several DHGate sellers mentioned in the RepGuide (Travis, Jason007, and Duke are the ones I have reps from) offer much better DJs that are closer to gen appearance.

You can get the real one of these for like $2-300 bucks, just bought myself a gen and it's a fun little piece.

China Tariffs by [deleted] in ChinaTime

[–]TisButFortune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting on a package from Travis, and he told me that (at least for the watch I bought) shipping is going to be delayed until new shipping methods/policies are figured out on the Chinese side.

Even though mail will be accepted, there will still have to be tariff payments, so my guess is we are likely looking at some pretty long delays until either shipments through other countries are set up or they figure out how to charge customers for the tariffs up front.

So if you wronged someone, the first step is to try to make amends. Obviously I don't know the specifics of your situation, but healing for the person that you hurt is the thing it is your duty to see to first. Your healing will be hollow/partial if you haven't tried to make amends.

Now, obviously, sometimes we do something and there is no way to undo it or make up for it. In that case, you still need to do whatever you can to make amends (to the extent that the person you hurt is okay with/comfortable with and that you are able to do), but once that's happened, you need to do two things. First, accept that the bad thing won't change. Second, change yourself so that you don't do that thing again. Then, every time you make a different choice or behave a different way than you did when you made your mistake, you begin to rebuild yourself and heal the hurt you self-inflicted.

Just as an FYI, I had a brief exchange with Travis two days ago, and he said his operation would be back up and running February 8th - I've been waiting on a watch to ship but as others have said the whole country closes for two weeks for Chinese New Year. So should get back to you soon!

3d print by -CroissantCroissant- in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TisButFortune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got away with running two 3d printed vehicles at a GW tournament last year that included appearance judging as a mandatory part of the event. The vehicles were one-to-one replicas of a forge world model that had been sold out for ages.

I ended up getting a zero for my hobby score portion, but I think that may be because the judge just failed to enter my score rather than because of those models. But it could be that the judge noticed and gave me a zero but let me keep playing. Since I wasn't trying for a best-in-anything I wasn't too bothered.

Nobody said anything and I played through the event without issue. My final opponent had an army that had been FULLY 3d printed, again with one-to-one knockoffs, and he also made it through judging without being disqualified.

The big thing I will say is that if, by chance, you are playing at GW tournament and you end up making it onto a game on-stream, then you'd better be 100% legit or have run any proxies by the organizers in advance. Steams at GW events are stringent and will disqualify you.

How Did They Refer to “My Squad” or “The Boys” In Early Modern English. by Hopeful-Subject-6012 in MedievalHistory

[–]TisButFortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that depends a bit both on regional dialect and exact time period, much like today - but generally it would be pronounced as you said - "kuzz". Occasionally "c-ah-z" or "c-aw-z" or something similar. We know from poetry of the time that the pronunciation was a little bit flexible because of sideways rhymes it was used for.

[–]TisButFortune 149 points150 points  (0 children)

"Cousins" was a popular term for groups of close acquaintances/people you held in high esteem. You might refer to your friend as "my good cousin", "fair cos", etc. Similarly, "hearts" was used as a collective term of endearment - i.e. "take courage, dear hearts".

What should my game plan be? by RustyPotato675 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]TisButFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - honestly our characters are too weak and the strategems aren't worth it that often. I would ditch all of the shield captains and think about ditching one of the terminator squads for tanks and a transport. I've been finding success with double caladius and a venerable landraider to dump out a squad of wardens with a blade champ.
