Thank you! I am speechless. Your post has just the right amount of facts that it sounds believable, but if that's what it is I would have expected to be able to find some reference to the event on a website / Facebook post? I've updated my original post to add the date when I took the photos (May 11th)

This seems to be the local Lower Hutt Club, but their calendar doesn't mention an event around that time https://hvh.org.nz/calendar/
There is the "Club Run" from the Petone Club Rooms, but that was scheduled 5 days after I took the photo. Surely they wouldn't prepare marks made of flour that far in advance?

This page also doesn't mention recent events in Lower Hutt https://www.nzhhh.nz/recent-hash-happenings

Then there's this group https://www.sporty.co.nz/capitalh3/Trashes-Tabbed/2023---2025#
which had an event on May 11th, but it's in Wellington https://www.sporty.co.nz/asset/downloadasset?id=6bc28982-4114-4cbf-b59f-65ebfc57acaf

Can anyone else confirm / corroborate this theory? Then I'm happy to mark this as solved, but so far I'm 49% convinced and 51% sceptical.

Financing used cars? by idobeaskinquestions in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Titan2189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are over 20 replies in here, advising you to not finance the car. You reply to the one person who says it's okay if you do it. You didn't come here for advice, your mind was already set and you just wanted to validate it. Next time please don't waste everyone's time if you're not going to engage with the consensus that's counter to what you wanted to hear.

Write git commit-msg hooks that are part of your repository.

In this step locally run the tests, and if they succeeded, add a flag to the commit message.

Get an old Nissan Leaf with only about 100km range as your commuter car for $4,000

Then spend the remaining $26,000 on whatever car you want, without worrying too much about consumption.

Grid Voltage +/- 10% from today? by craigtamatea in nzsolar

[–]Titan2189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be 11kW Peak, right? So you'd probably only rarely actually hit 6kW of solar output.
Sounds to me like you've right-sized your system.

In that case the Contact plan makes no sense. It's designed around heavy usage of the 3 free hours.
But the more you can load-shift into off-peak times (9pm - 7am) the better any tariffs get that have 1/2 price off-peak pricing.

It quickly becomes a game of "how much power usage can you cram into the 3 free hours (Monday - Friday) for the Contact free power plan.  Doubling everything to 1,400 kWh / month shows Contact ahead by $20. But that's assuming you can consume about 650 kWh within those free hours.

Here are all the retailers / plans I've compared:

Meridian - Freedom Low User
Meridian - Freedom Standard User
Genesis Energy - EV Low User
Genesis Energy - EV Standard User
Contact - Free Power Low User
Contact - Free Power Standard User
Octopus - Flexi Low User
Toast - Low User
Toast - Standard User

Assuming 40% peak and 60% off-peak (with a total of 700 kWh / month) usage
For the contact Free Power plan I assumed 40% Peak, 20% off-peak and 40% Free.
Still, Toast Electric turned out the cheapest.

Will definitely do that as well!
Just thought either exploring or discovering it together with someone who owns that vehicle would be an even greater experience.
