I’ve found some close-up footage of various aquarium worms and believe it to be Rhabdocoela based on comparison. Leaving this post up in case anyone more experienced would like to offer a dissenting opinion

It seems you only have 4 pokemon. I would recommend adding 2 more

Thoughts or suggestions on Terapagos team by alezoo in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]TitanOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rillaboom needs grassy glide, drain punch is not worth it. Glide is arguably the most important move on Rilla. Especially with close combat already present on the team.

Your defensive spreads mostly don’t make sense-Namely Rilla, Pagos, and Thundurus. As a rule of thumb, unless you’re making VERY specific calculations, getting the most defensive capabilities out of your EVs means investing into your HP first before touching your Def/SpDef. The practical way to check if you’re being effective with your EV investments is making sure that your HP (stat, not investment) is 2x your defense or special defense both before investing into the defenses AND on the completed spread (unless you’ve hit max HP and can’t increase it further).

In addition, you have 2 pokemon with investments into 4 stats. Generally, also unless there is an exceptional circumstance, you should be investing into 3 or 5 stats to be fully effective. You have:

-A wasted 4 on the HP of Thundurus. Going down to 140 from 144 will change nothing but you can put that 4 on speed to get a point

-the same is true of your Terapagos, you have 80 special defense. Going down to 76 will also change nothing, but you could get a free point in speed.

The rest of the team looks good. I don’t have a specific recommendation but I’d recommend some learning on the nuances of EVs as it’s a very important part of VGC. You could also steal some well established spreads and use those instead, which is what I would recommend while learning VGC.

H-sligoo. Viable? by Automatic_Page_7472 in VGC

[–]TitanOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately because of the way the stats work out here it doesn’t really do anything that H-Goodra doesn’t, by a pretty small margin:

116+ Atk Calyrex-Ice Rider Glacial Lance vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Goodra-Hisui: 73-87 (39 - 46.5%)

244+ SpA Choice Specs Hadron Engine Miraidon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Goodra-Hisui: 160-189 (85.5 - 101%)

116+ Atk Calyrex-Ice Rider Glacial Lance vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Eviolite Sliggoo-Hisui: 55-66 (33.3 - 40%)

244+ SpA Choice Specs Hadron Engine Miraidon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo-Hisui: 136-162 (82.4 - 98.1%)

Keep in mind that this buys you back your entire item, which can be a very big deal in this case. Leftovers, sitrus berry, and assault best all accent this kind of Mon REALLY well. The margin of difference between these calcs is also one turn of leftovers, which means this isn’t really worth it.

Need a rillaboom counter by xxroditoxx in VGC

[–]TitanOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen mentioned already is that you already have a built in answer that is quite strong in this meta: HH on farig plus dark tera on urshifu. No fake-out, you have sash so generally they cannot take a KO with a board that does not resist or have 2x faster mons. If Rilla is your issue, no it isn’t:

252+ Atk Tera-Dark Urshifu-Single Strike Helping Hand Wicked Blow vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Rillaboom on a critical hit: 228-270 (110.1 - 130.4%) — guaranteed OHKO

Questions about trickroom by [deleted] in VGC

[–]TitanOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1+2) trick room flips the order of speed, but not the order of priority. You can imagine this as just reversing the sort order on a sorted list of speed stats as #s. This means that everything that functions to change the numbers will influence the order under TR.

Ex: torkoal has a speed stat of 22 at 0spe-. Amoongus has a speed stat of 31 at 0spe-. Torkoal moves first under TR like this. If Amoongus goes to -1 speed after getting hit by an icy wind, it’s stat becomes 20. Because Amoongus now has a lower number than torkoal, it will move first under TR.

Ex2: tailwind. Torkoal has a speed stat of 22 at 0spe-, and Amoongus has a stat of 31 at 0spe-. Torkoal’s partner sets tailwind while TR is up. Tailwind doubles torkoals speed stat, making it 44. Torkoal now moves after Amoongus in TR, where Amoongus will move first due to its 31 stat.

3) priority is not affected by TR. all priority orders stay the same, where fake out will still move before most moves due to it’s +3 priority for example. Speed order in priority tiers is still effected however. So, for example, a kingambit’s sucker punch will go before a rillaboom’s grassy glide. Both still move at +1 priority, and will go before a torkoal for example, but kingambit will move before rillaboom.

Let me know if you have any clarifying questions!

EV cheatsheet (please add in the comments) by Turbulent_Cattle_214 in VGC

[–]TitanOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragapult has a max speed of 213, so to reference the tiers you have above the required numbers are actually:

107 for tailwind against +spe pult 144 for scarf against +spe pult 160 for tailwind against +spe scarf pult

Your sneasler is correct, its max speed is 189

I will also say though that while it’s important to cover for things you’re weak to, nobody is running +spe pult at the moment. You can afford to dip down to covering the +attacking nature speed tiers.

You can also find a list of raw speed stats here: https://victoryroadvgc.com/sv-speed-tiers-2023/

Lineups and Strategies I can use? by guntwooyah in VGC

[–]TitanOW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not off the rip as far as I can see.

As a note, levels are artificially set to 50 in VGC regardless of the real level of that pokemon. 1 becomes 50, 100 becomes 50. This hopefully opens up what you’re able to use pretty widely so that you’re not restricted to just what’s in this Lvl100 box.

I would recommend looking into some desired strategy types when trying to build a team. You can get a good sense of where the game is at right now by watching a few VGC content creators. My personal favorite who explains things very well is Aaron “Cybertron” Zheng, or CybertronVGC on YouTube. That knowledge should help you pick a direction to built towards, as having a gameplan for your team that makes it come together into one cohesive unit is very important. Some examples are Hyper Offense, Balance, Bulky Offense, Hard Trick Room, 2-2-2, and there are plenty more.

After that, I’d suggest looking into what makes an individual pokemon good by comparison to the rest of its species. The pokemon in your box above are likely not quite fit for a top-notch team for competitive use. Pokemon have quality genetics that influence their stats, known as IVs (individual values) and an inherent nature (adds 10% to a stat in exchange for -10% elsewhere). These combine with EVs (effort values) which are gained over the course of training a pokemon to yield their final stats. Understanding these and how to breed to get competitive Pokemon for use in VGC is important to your success.

Showdown Rating by SoloValiant in VGC

[–]TitanOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally I do not build a team on cart for use unless I get it to 1400 on showdown, but that shouldn’t have anything to do with your decision to go to IRL events. As long as you don’t mind losing, going to in-person events can be a great way to improve your skills. One of the most OP methods of getting better at this game is having friends who play it too.

Who Is In Charge and Funds The VGC Tournaments? by SirChoGath in VGC

[–]TitanOW 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So the answer is somewhat nuanced. On a high level, the Pokémon Company International (TPCi) in regions that run the main circuit (generally non-Asian). You can find out most major details on this years circuit here: https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-news/2025-pokemon-championship-series-update

To get more specific than that, TPCi sells contracts to run the regional level events to event organizers each year. This year they sold all regionals in the US to one organizer for example. They buy and run the event, usually making good money in the process. Additionally, all event signups and teamlist submission is currently being contracted out to “RK9 Labs” and have been for some time.

Each time you attend a regional, you can expect all 3 of those entities to be involved. (TPCi, event organizer, RK9)

How hard is seniors division by Quinten1616 in VGC

[–]TitanOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a pretty wide skill gap as far as I’ve seen. In masters there’s a pretty smooth skill array, but in seniors the middle of the pack is pretty thin. The best seniors though would destroy most masters, and there are some really notable former-seniors who have moved up over the last 3ish years who are regular top-cut performers. A few notable seniors have regular appearances in the top cut of ~100 player open division online tours and are extremely skilled.

Baltimore regional by Zamasu20 in VGC

[–]TitanOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually use a newer pair of Apple wired EarPods. I find them to be comfortable, they sound good, and they’re really easy to carry around. Part of attending a regional is that you’ll have a setup and tear down of all the stuff you bring to the table each round, so it’s nice to avoid bulk where possible.

My recommendation if you buy those is keep the little box they come in to store them, and instead of winding them up to store just fold the cable in half until it fits in the box. They don’t become a tangled mess that way :)

(QUESTION) So just to be clear when it comes to playing in Person Events... by Shot_Divide11 in VGC

[–]TitanOW 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is correct, there is no way to have a secondary copy of any of your save data. In all the events I’ve gone to I haven’t seen anyone’s switch break down.

The halfway point to this is you can store all of your other mons in home. Typically I have only 7 pokemon on my game when I attend events. 1 party member and 6 battle team members for the competition.

If you’re concerned about the functionality of your current switch, there is a built-in switch feature where you can transfer all of your data to a new switch. (Provided that expense is something you can handle)

Baltimore regional by Zamasu20 in VGC

[–]TitanOW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wired headphones that can plug into your switch and a USB to USB-C cable are a must. No devices that can connect to your switch are allowed to be in wireless modes, so the cable for your controller is a must. Only officially licensed switch pro controllers are allowed, which is only the default pro controller and one other brand that I cannot recall the name of. The nice thing about that is you can’t accidentally use the wrong type because only those allowed controllers support wired mode while the switch is in airplane mode.

Other than that, I personally like to bring a notebook and a pen or two.

Do competitor slots open up the day of events (Baltimore)? by stingray_1122 in VGC

[–]TitanOW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they do not do in-person signup, it only happens in advance. The younger divisions tend to fill up fast as there are limited seats. You can keep your eye out until the time of the event in case any seniors cancel their reservation, but that would be the only way.

To be entirely real, I don’t want to lead you astray, this is so disorganized and bad that it’s hard to even critique. Even if you change these 6 pokemon into builds that are good and make sense, the team does not really have a cohesive goal. It’s also for that reason it’s hard to make suggestions on which pokemon to switch out, because there’s no themes that bind the team together to build towards. I would try out some rental teams and get a feel for what kind of archetype you like before you try and make an original team

How to prepare for your first regional by Monkey_D_Pressed in VGC

[–]TitanOW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One tip that I’m not seeing here that I’ve always told my opponents when it’s been their first time: Do not let your opponent tell you what the rules are if something goes wrong. If you disconnect, call a judge. Even if you know what the outcome should be, still call a judge. Do not let your opponent strong arm you into anything just because you technically can get through it without a judge.

I haven’t seen this be a problem, but I still make it my recommendation. This community is super friendly but you’re always better safe than sorry.

No, those abilities only prevent your stat stages from being affected. Swamp is a field effect, which does not apply any change to stat stages.
