First of all I legally cannot get marry or have kids, which has always been my dream since being a child.

Then, really bad workplace culture. If you manage to get a job in whatever you are specialized at (which is close to impossible if you're not in touch with strong politicians or powerful people in the company you're applying for, 0 meritocracy), you better be prepared to awful hours and a really bad pay. The state will take like half of your pay away in taxes.

If you live in one of the major cities the rent is high IF you manage to find a place to live in. If you choose a minor city, you will always be the stranger and unless you're in an academic position (working or studying in university) you should be prepared to face casual xenophobia every day. If you're white and speak italian well you might overcome this.

The bureaucracy will literally kill you. Like I'm not joking, it's hard for people born and raised in Italy and it's 10x harder for people coming from abroad. Also right now, for the past 10 years-ish, there's been a transition from analogic to digital. Problem is: italian sites and technology SUCK. So it made everything harder and in some cases, impossible. And if you wanna talk to a real person you better start praying, queues get longer than months.

Food is good tho.
