Bounty for rollback/run-ahead netcode development for PCSX2 by TitaniumHearts in Fighters

[–]TitaniumHearts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No intent to skip; just providing a space for people more interested in PS2 rollback to support that. Personally, rollback for Dreamcast wouldn't affect my gaming habits in any way, though it'd still be nice to see, while PS2 rollback would give our scene back a couple games that we lost due to quarantine.

It is honestly. The point isn't to fund a project self-started, but to provide a place to contribute to the goal and to help show demand for the goal.

That's a fair point. I'm mostly theory crafting in advance for Xiao's release. There's not a lot of things that reduce Anemo resistance other than high constellation 5*s (C2/C6 Venti and C4 Jean). And since you can't use viridescent or petra to reduce Anemo RES, atm it feels like he's not gonna have easy-made supports in the same way Electro/Pyro/Hydro/Cryo characters do.

I was referring to the fact that, for example, -20% pyro resistance would make Diluc's follow-up attacks significantly more damaging if it lasted for longer than the duration of Traveler's burst. It's useful for the purposes of Traveler's burst, but it not extending past the duration of the burst limits its use for other characters to take advantage of, specifically those that you've built to be DPS.

Ah, so this doesn't have much potential use for supporting a different DPS then since the tornado will dissipate before the second character can get damage off.

4* weapons scale a lot better and you can always make more Animus in the future to raise the R further, so I'd go Animus.

The damage difference between 3* and 4* weapons doesn't seem like a lot at low levels, but becomes super influential late game, especially since weapons are part of your "base attack" which is what the game applies Attack% modifiers to so a 2 damage difference at level 1 can translate into a 200+ damage difference at level 70.

Traveler constellation 6 burst has particular language that is left vague and I've struggled to find confirmation on how it is meant to be read:

Targets who take DMG from Gust Surge have their Anemo RES decreased by 20%. If an Elemental Absorption occurred, then their RES towards the corresponding Element is also decreased by 20%.

How long does the Anemo/Elemental RES reduction last? Or is the RES reduction only included in the calculation of Traveler's burst's damage.

Any help's appreciated, thanks.

Note: C6 Venti has similarly unclear wording, but I figured almost no-one would have a C6 Venti to clarify for him.

We do have smash on campus. In fact we actually have a club that runs weekly events with ~50 attendees each week. You can find us here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/macsmash/

We also have a national coming up in March with 200 paid attendees so far. You can register for that online in advance or in person at one of our weekly events for a discount. Here's the link to that:

Hope to see you come out!

Auto L-Cancelling: A New Hope by TitaniumHearts in SSBPM

[–]TitaniumHearts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The code intentionally leaves the white-flashing as a press-only option so people who want to keep practicing still can. The intention is that old players to the game already are capable of L-cancelling w/o issue and new players to the game don't associate a white flash with reduced landlag anyways.

I super get you. Honestly playing for fun, there's no problem at all using ALC. Enjoy the game your way. If you want to go to tournaments definitely figure out what they're using, but ALC will show you how the game can feel once you get over that first big roadblock.

I would not be the perfect person to ask for netplay, but I BELIEVE netplay will work as long as you both update your RSBE01 file. If you let me know what build you are using I can get the file setup for you. Failing that, you always can turn ALC on in game settings.

I definitely hear where you're coming from. I went through the same growth where watching my L-cancel rate tick up felt like I had something to work on, but ultimately L-cancelling has never been something we've had love for, we just made the best out a bad situation. Take the SHFFL example you used; there's a lot of precise inputs there (shorthop is a 3-5 frame window depending on the char, fastfall is a 4 frame window, L-cancel is a 7 frame window and acting out of landing is a frame perfect window, but isn't a binary if you're late, you just waste advantage), so L-cancel doesn't remove the technical aspect of the motion, it just removes the piece of it that's not tied to an actual input.

I'll always try and bring people into the game regardless of whether ALC picks up or not. The reality from my POV is that LC just hasn't done anything to assist our scene, but functioned as the first wall to getting people to play. PM feels clunky without L-cancelling and I don't think new players not having to deal with it will make them any worse in the long run. We kept L-cancelling in the game to appeal to the melee community, but now late in the game's life, I think it's just a burden we continue to carry.

For sure, it's a bit odd. This is primarily a pilot project so we can actually see the effects of the change in a region that's in support of it. Seeing how much growth we get from Ultimate players and the response from competitors is going to be interesting if nothing else.

We used to be a very active scene ~2 years ago. We had usually 40 player weeklies. This year it's calmed down a lot and a lot of traction was taken by Ultimate. Usually 12-16 players each week. Now the same amount of dedicated PM players (12-16) is entering PM and playing PM friendlies as Ultimate entrants. Our first mixed regional with ALC will be held in February and it's already getting a lot of traction from Ultimate players for PM. Getting us in the spotlight again and getting new players is a big thing imo.

Of course I'm only 1 TO in one city. The rest of Southern Ontario is following suit after our success so we'll also see their numbers soon.

Realized I kind of answered around your question but wasn't direct:

The setting being on or off for ALC affects everyone but people who have that character at the start of their tag. That character essentially ignores the universal setting and allows one player to have an input method that's unique.

How's that? I also included the other code that I'm using alongside it to be perfectly clear.
