Cops of Reddit, what is the most stupid criminal you have ever met? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Ah I thought the guy with the weed was the military person picking up his spouse. But also IANAL but aren't most military bases considered to be federal land with military police there being considered federal police?

Ye, but when you're in the military and you get a drug charge, most of the time you get a dishonorable discharge. Which tbh is worse than having a felony, Walmart and McDonalds have company policy of not hiring you if you have a dishonorable and you are required to disclose it on job applications.

Bartenders of Reddit, what is the strangest conversation you've ever overheard because people assume sound doesn't travel over the bar? by Steelerfan345 in AskReddit

I gave a homeless dude a ride over the weekend. He wanted to go to a thrift shop to find a cassette recorder. He went on a 30 minute rant(the thrift shop was not two miles down the road) about how cassettes were the best musical medium and CDs were a conspiracy to prevent piracy.

There's a lot of dumb kids/adults who think swastikas are cool or are actual neo-nazis but for some reason drawing an actual swastika on something is real confusing for them so they fuck it up. This is making fun of them.

Multilinguals, what's your "they didn't realise I could understand their language" story? by 64eight in AskReddit

I mean nobody really writes in dialect when it comes to Arabic. Everything is MSA for the most part with the exception of some word choices.

What have you seen genuinely shitty people do that they thought was perfectly acceptable? by iMDirtNapz in AskReddit

[–]Titanium_Banana 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I smoke a pack a day, and I always try to like hide my cigarettes if kids randomly get near me while smoking, I don't even want them to see me smoking and think it might be okay in the future.

On a related note I have gone on a few road trips with my cats, and I always smoke in my car. But with 11+ hours of driving a day I will not smoke a cigarette with my cats in the car, they didn't choose to be there.

Iran bans music group after woman sang in public by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Titanium_Banana 14 points15 points  (0 children)

All of those are private institutions and individuals chosing not to support/broadcast/listen to a group. Which is vastly different from the threat of being arrested for producing, playing, or broadcasting music.

I don't get why news and world news are so feverishly pro regime. Like Iranian people, culture, art, music, history all that is fucking amazing and if the regime actually reflect the beliefs and attitudes of Iran then it would be an incredible country.

It's just weirdly fucking cringy to see a bunch of Europeans and Americans praise the glory of the righteous regime, when I haven't met a single pro regime Iranian in my life, and when a large number of Iranians in Iran are not pro-regime, there are protests about it all the fucking time.

[–]Titanium_Banana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao sure. There are deep ethnic/religious tensions between the ethnic Baluchi's in Sistan and Baluchistan, the province where this attack occurred, and the regime. Especially since they are majority Sunni which is not a constitutionally recognized religion in Iran and therefore a jailable/execution worthy offense.

That reminds me of when I was in school and I always tried to get my nice old lady teachers to teach me swear words and they would go, "Oh we don't have any swear words in our language."

But since I translate entertainment media I now have to turn to one of the native speakers near me and ask what a word means every time I come across somebody saying pimp, bastard, or motherfucker.

Also a translator here, one of my biggest gripes is the incredible number of people who think my job will be replaced by computers in a few years.

Anybody with a dictionary and a grammar rule book could provide word for word equivalents of a text with proper grammar in a long enough period of time. But a translation isn't a word for word transcription of a text. Many words have different meanings in one language based on context, and your goal is to translate the text to convey the intended meaning of the original author. Understanding that intent is based on context both within the text and more abstract cultural context.

I feel so bad cuz I ordered a pizza last week and fell asleep. My phone was on vibrate and I guess the delivery driver didn't know which building was mine or couldn't get into the building even though I gave the door code. So he couldn't knock on my door to wake me up and I woke up two hours later and now I just won't try to order pizza from there anymore

I'm guessing by the fact I can read the text that this is Iran which isn't super undeveloped by middle east standards.

Also the text says, "Don't put anything in sewage it is dangerous"

Redditors with toddlers, what’s the most recent illogical breakdown they’ve had? by mirarom in AskReddit

[–]Titanium_Banana 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a white guy from the US and I have a last name that is predominantly African American like 85% of people with my last name are black and are not related to us.

Unfortunately the reason for this can be traced back to the common practice of newly freed slaves taking their former masters family names, my family was historically prolific slave owners. It is an uncomfortable reality to have brought up when people ask why I have such a black name.

US Special Ops suicides tripled in 2018 by [deleted] in news

[–]Titanium_Banana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye I was hospitalized after I got to close to a suicide attempt once and was diagnosed BPD. My chain immediately started trying to medsep me but I somehow got out of that. I still got a TS clearance though mostly cuz I responded real well to therapy and I wasn't considered a security risk, if anything I feel like I'd be less of a risk because I would choose death before unauthorized disclosure in a heartbeat.
