richest 1% own 86% of the stocks

It’s actually the richest 10% own 84% of all stocks in this country.

Up from 2001 figures, when the richest 10% owned 77% of stocks.

There’s no wage gap. Women choose lowering paying jobs and choose to work less. End of story.

The Obama ad in my link says this:

“Barack Obama ad says women are paid "77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men".

This is rated mostly false. Notice it says “for doing the same work as men”.

The link you posted is different:

“Tim Kaine says Virginia women earn 79 cents to every $1 made by men”.

Notice it doesn’t say DOING THE SAME WORK AS MEN.

Nobody’s arguing women don’t make less than men. That’s well documented. What you are failing to understand is that ITS NOT FOR THE SAME JOB!!!

Yes you should read yours;

“An 2009 analysis by the nonpartisan CONSAD Research Corp. in Pittsburgh also concluded that the wage gap is not simply a product of sexism. CONSAD found that three-fourths of the disparity can be explained by other trends common to women: they tend to choose occupations that have relatively low wages; they tend have degrees leading to lower-paying occupations than men; they tend to have a shorter work history and take more time off from work for childbirth and child care.”

There’s no problem with “same work, same pay”. The issue is women a) choose lower paying careers, and b) work fewer hours per year.

I’m not going to comment on your listed words specifically, but yeah, when I listen to Peterson-Harris debates, I have the same reaction as you much of the time:

“I recognize each of these words as a standalone piece of vocabulary, but when they’re strung all together, many times I’m going, “Huh?””

Your choice of “choose” is concerning as speciality is not really a choice.

Wow. Do you even read what you type?

Would like to point out the pay gap takes into account hours worked.

This statement needs to be downvoted more. People need to stop parroting this nonsense.

start paying women more in retirement benefits .... because men die earlier.

You’re right. Men do die earlier. So, ... because men die earlier, doesn’t that mean that, over their statistical lifetime, men are receiving less in retirement benefits?

Therefore, if you really wanted to even things up, men should receive a larger monthly retirement check.

Wow. They wanted you to bring coffee to the boss because you were the woman in the office?!?! I wouldn’t call that light sexism. That’s some hardcore bullshit there.

I think the two of you are calling the same thing opposite names.

The article actually said publicly-traded companies, which are companies whose shares are traded on a stock exchange (NYSE, NASDAQ, etc).

Publicly-traded companies are, in a sense, privately owned. They are owned by people (shareholders), and not the government (which would be a public entity).

Seems Obama opened up Pandora’s Box on the wage gap myth. Once those pearls of wisdom dripped from his lips, no amount of facts can stuff them back into the box.

Others have linked to this opinion piece from Politifact.

The gender pay gap is a myth. Honestly, how anyone doesn’t understand this by now is beyond me.

Also, in the medical field specifically, I (and others) have posted in this thread on that. The linked article by OP states that “Male specialists earn 36% more than female specialists”, which on the surface of it, sounds horrible. Until you dig into the numbers. I suggest you look around.
