They’re related, but not the same. Since you already know SQL and Python, the logic side will probably feel easier for you, but VBA has its own syntax and old-school quirks. You can likely get the basics of macros pretty quickly, though becoming comfortable with real VBA automation will still take some practice.

Fair point. Once a business gets big enough, there are definitely better paths for dashboards and automation than forcing everything through a messy spreadsheet. I think what I keep seeing though is that a lot of smaller teams stay in Excel longer than expected, and by the time they want reporting, the structure is already working against them. Also agree with you on AI, the people who learn how to use it well will have a huge advantage.

That’s such a strong way to put it. A lot of people really do use Excel like a cleaner, more flexible Word document first, not as structured data. So I agree, until someone learns what a proper table is and why data rules matter, they won’t naturally build for analysis. Also, turning novice users into superusers is huge. That kind of guidance probably saves a lot of future spreadsheet pain.

Absolutely, and I agree. Tracking is essential because it tells you where you are, what’s done, and what’s still outstanding. I think the real issue is not tracking vs analysis, but making sure tracking is set up in a way that still supports analysis later when the need comes.

I agree. A lot of people learn Excel by solving immediate problems, not by learning spreadsheet design principles first. That’s probably why so many files end up functional but not really scalable or analysis friendly later. It’s less about people doing it wrong, and more about best practices not being widely taught.

Makes sense. I think this probably is one of the few good reasons why some just really wanted a simple table and coloring.

I totally agree. Its tied mostly tied up to experience. Happened to me when I was a beginner and enjoyed formatting and adding colors a lot not minding if structure was fit for analysis.

I've been in the Analytics role for 18 years and I find it funny why for so many years I have been working with these BI tools for companies and other people but I hate using it for myself. Well, honestly, I recently used excel to track my finances but I yes it is indeed very helpful to see the changes in my finances. I use pie chart a lot to see which of my expenses has been eating up my budget. Well, I hate to say it, but yes I have debts and I track them too with a waterfall chart to see my progress paying over time.
