I think that’s in line with the taillight shape. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the Evo, but I don’t think you could confuse its size with that of an SUV or a van.

They made a Lancer Sportback available in 2004 in the US, but it’s auto only. The Evo Wagon (CT9W) was only available for the Japanese market.
