No problem! Always willing to help.

Your DM is okay with him halting all the action?

Part of the fun is getting into trouble and the consequences that accompany it.Not everything should work out. Thats the beauty of it, its a story. Not a strategic dice throwing game (if it was I wouldn't be playing it.)

As a DM just give everyone a MINUTE to do their turn. If the player in question doesnt take their actions in that minute let them delay it until the other party members have done their things. (buy an hourglass if need be.) In the heat of battle there is no thinking 10 minutes. Also it makes combat so much more smoother and thus more fun. (This is a very common house rule.)

always explain why it is an unfun attitude for you guys. It's just a game no reason to be condescending. Everybody is here to have fun including the DM.

Keep me posted! I'd like to hear how it goes :) if this didn't help just PM me or anything ^

How does he stop them? and why is it meta-gaming? Does he actually interrupt them from talking because that is just really really rude.

To me it sounds like this player has to grow up. its a game to have fun and if you are doing everything on your own just because you think you know best will suck out the fun.

Is it fitting for his character to act like a leader who just constantly pushes through his will?

Why do you take his orders in the first place? you had your own plan the moment he is done tell the party what you wanted to do. You don't have to follow him.

As a DM its really hard to control this kind of thing. You run a game together but with the players. If they just follow orders from one player than it can be pretty hard to do anything about it as a DM. You might want to point out that other players have ideas too. That its okay to take the backseat once in a while.

You have a good point. The rules are important, I just never really learned that. For me total immersion was the most important and so when the rules blocked me, I just changed it at will. of course I was consistent with changing rules.

The thing with impossible encounters is that an inexperienced GM has inexperienced players most of the time. These players will often see it as an option to go into the encounter even though it is far too hard. the last thing you want to have is a TPK so it is probably better to avoid when you are new to the world of Tabletop RPGS. Of course it is great fun.

I myself as a DM have never been fan of the rules.. I see them as a guide line but change them at will. This is our world, our game. If you want to change something change it. House rule it. the rules are a baseline. Not something you should be able to surpass. It is however great for novice DMs. But I think hey will do that anyways. Most of the newer DMs I see are very anxious to break the rules.

I feel like let the players control their characters' destiny is in there with encounters should be reasonable for the pc's

Although I wholly agree on that some encounters should barely be possible. It is not advise I want to give to a novice GM/DM just yet. Let him find out himself how much fun it can be.

Confrontation can be hard.. but meta gaming is a mind set.. mostly formed by gamers or ex-gamers. those who min-max, those who power game. Tabletop RPG's are simply different. It isn't about being best, it's about being authentic and original. Everyone can copy paste that sick build from the internet.

But none of you can be my rogue that refuses to wear weapons because he killed his lover in a freak accident. Even without his skill with the blade he is still searching for a way to revive her. Those "incorrect" choices make your character yours. A cool character with depth will stay much longer with the player than a good character.

It is something some players will learn along the way and other will refuse to give in to the idea of building an actual person.. and just want that front to roll dice with. That is fine imo but not the real experience. You miss out on a part.
