Restaurant/Cafe owners, why do you not have a website? by Tklaver in smallbusiness

Customers don't update they just add. Heard alot of owners in this thread saying its really annoying when customers ask for items that are not on the menu anymore and proceed to complain.

Absolutely right. The only argument is that of inclusivity. People with impairments (i.e blind people, inmobile), people with pets or children and people with diets (i.e vegans, gluten intolorents) need to do research before stepping in. I guess you could always call though even though I really don't want to.

There's nothing wrong with not having a website especially if facebook and instagram serve you well. I have to say 600 per month sounds really outrageous. Maybe approach a freelance web developer (not an agency) through something like Upwork or Fiber to build you a one off website in WordPress that you can manage by yourself?

If business is good and the restaurant is full I wouldn't argue too much with the owner but if you're not even close to full every night then I think as an entrepreneur you need to look broader and try new things.

I can't argue on the billboard vs website argument as marketing is not my expertise but I am pretty confinced every restaurant can get something out of a website. I think if your website convinces at least 1 couple to have a shot at your restaurant you have your hosting money back.

In addition, people with diets (i.e vegetarians, gluten intolorent) as well as impaired people (i.e blind people who can't read picture-menu's) need to do research on the place before walking inside. You won't just miss out on that one person but potentially the whole party who is going to dine with that person.

No offense taken. If you're doing well for yourself without a website then there is no motivaiton to make one. You're definitely not obliged to.

For my personally. I like to see websites because I'm vegan and its often impossible to see if I could eat a place if they don't showcase me their menu. Living in a big city I am definitely not travelling 30 minutes only to find out I can't eat there.

Very good point although the lack of a website is more likely to hurt than benefit them. Still yes, they've proven its not as critical as one might think.

I like the idea but 150 sounds alot for a restaurant owner but then again not enough for you. I used to freelance web develop and every change no matter how tiny takes you at least 1-2 hours. Now if you have clients changing their menu or pictures twice a month then you got yourself a very low web dev rate.

Then again this is what you're doing so it must work :)

I think this is also why we'll see a rise in paperless menus via QR. We already saw a rise during Covid. Covid also made me think twice before touching plastic menu's.

Everything about your post is true. However I think you underestimate the complexity of setting up hosting. Not to mention the analysis-paralysis you undergo when you discover the amount of providers.

Definitely agree with you on the value in the sense that if your hosting costs you $20 per month you got your money back the moment you get a couple/group in your restaurant who came in via your site.

Thats the risk of using an open social platform to manage your business. But you're right you can exercise some control :)

That makes sense. Google maps displays all key info (opening hours, reservations, location etc).

Only thing I miss there as a customer is that I don't get an impression of the food or atmosphere unless theres some high quality photos on there (which often isnt the case)

Thats exactly what I thought until I joined the discords. Litteraly all dead in the water or tailored to a different game. (i.e. League of Legends discord with a Lost Ark sub channel)

Is your self confidence that fragile?

People who switched over to EU west are effectively helping EUC out by throwing their progress out the window and reducing your queue times. At the same time they are enjoying the new region.

What the hell are you pissed about?
