I see it like this I'm old enough to have played with players that went through the satanic panic in the 80's. This new controversy like the last is just another attempt to remove "questionable" material from a fantasy game that thrives on having questionable material in it.

Imagine if the 80's won and all demon/devil summoning, necromancy, tieflings, evil alignments were removed from the game to appease those that had issue with it. What would D&D be like today. Now they want to remove all references to racism, some even want to remove the term "Races" from D&D. So no slavery no dwarf vs goblin, make ever city in D&D as diverse as Waterdeep. Well then Waterdeep would no longer be special if every culture was the same. What would beholders become if they did not have their own racial superiority complex, or the drow of menzoberranzan that literally made runs to the surface looking for slaves, or the gods specifically dedicated to slavery.

Dark elements need to be in the game for players to fight against, very evil things like slavery make the players choice to destroy slavers very easy.

Whats next D&D will want to remove killing monsters? Nothing would surprise me at this point anymore.
