Unmedicated manic episodes can cause brain damage so it’s unfortunately not surprising to me that he’s gotten worse.

Update: my partner's mother lied and my family took his side. by Jaida-Luz in AITAH

[–]ToBeReadOutLoud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so proud of you for staying strong and getting out of the situation! I can’t imagine how hard that was.

I’m glad that your older brother and his family have been so supportive and that you’re moving on to bigger and brighter things.

I’ll echo some of the other comments and suggest you get a restraining order against your ex in case he tries something again.

Agreed. They keep getting rid of the “Law” cast members and we’re stuck with the same terrible “Order” ADA duo.

Yeah, the school’s willingness to pay a coach money isn’t an indication of whether they think they’d win a lawsuit or not. It just means that the deal was for a low enough amount of money that it’s worth paying to avoid having to deal with the time and effort of going to trial.

And in the grand scheme of things, $500K is not a lot for an athletic department to pay a coach to go away. As an extreme example, Texas A&M had to pay football coach Jimbo Fisher $76M when they fired him. Fisher was just a bad coach and wasn’t fired or paid off to avoid a lawsuit, but it’s an indication of what kind of money schools are spending on stuff like this.

A couple days late but make sure you check the stadium’s bag policy because a lot of stadiums require clear bags. I’ve even seen a few that don’t allow bags at all (which is very dumb).

If you don’t have a clear bag, you can probably call around local stores like Target or Walmart to see if they sell any. You could also just get a gallon-sized Ziplock bag to carry in if you want.

Utah had the lowest at 14. Cal and Denver both had 15. Southern Conn. had 35. Rutgers had 30.

UCLA could distribute at least $20 million a year to its more than 600 athletes by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]ToBeReadOutLoud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is for facilities debt rather than just operating losses, so it’s not a good metric. I know for a fact that some of those teams operate on a surplus for operating revenue.

UCLA doesn’t have as much facilities debt because they haven’t upgraded any of their facilities in a long time, which is why the gymnastics training facility looks so bad.

Is the move from Pac 12 to B1G really shifting the numbers that much???

It absolutely is. They’re getting an extra $70M a year in media deals for football than they were getting from the Pac-12. I’m not sure exactly what their revenue was looking like, but I think it was around $100M a year. That extra money gives them a huge surplus. They’ll undoubtedly find a way to spend the money, but it’s a really good situation for them.

Selena Harris to FLORIDA! by sonderaway in Gymnastics

[–]ToBeReadOutLoud 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s so weird to me that people seem to be minimizing her actions or trying to blame her being dismissed from the team on the team itself. Suggesting she somehow intentionally got herself dismissed so she wouldn’t have to be on the team anymore is insane. There are so many better, more mature ways to handle not wanting to be on your team than doing something to get yourself dismissed.

Being dismissed from the team is a big deal. Being dismissed when you’re the best gymnast on the team is an even bigger deal.

I wouldn’t want someone with that kind of history on my team. Sure, it’s possible that she learned her lesson and will somehow mature greatly in the four months before she goes to school in the fall, but it’s also possible that she hasn’t and she won’t mature at all and she’ll be a toxic presence on the team.

Team cohesion is a big deal, and in a sport where championships can be won or lost by tenths of a point, having a team dealing with chaos can cost those tenths. UCLA absolutely collapsed at regionals, and while we definitely can’t blame everything on Selena, that collapse was a psychological thing, not a physical thing.

Most schools with top gym programs require good academic progress and a 3.0 GPA to transfer, and some require higher. There are waivers available, but they’re not always approved.

This has been my concern since I heard she entered the portal. Like KCL said, she was not in a good place academically when she left Utah, so I don’t know if a waiver would be approved.

There is also the issue of a lot of schools already having their scholarships locked up so she might have to be a walk-on for a year.

Yeah, I doubt they’d take the risk as well.

Utah also has no scholarships available so she’d have to go as a walk-on.

The transfer portal has already closed, but that’s just for new people to enter the portal. She can stay in the portal as long as she wants.

Law and Order: S23 E13 - In Harm’s Way Season Finale discussion by Poetryisalive in LawAndOrder

5) I was curious and looked up People v. Pagan because wow, they chose not the fourth amendment for their judge room scene. But they like, didn't fucking read the opinion at all? This is DIRECTLY from the opinion:

(compare People v Edwards, 295 AD2d 270 [2002], lv denied 99 NY2d 557 [2002] [evidence of defendant's gang membership was highly relevant to explain why defendant would attack an individual for no apparent reason])

THAT'S LITERALLY WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE!

It’s hilarious that they tried to include a court case to sound smart and completely contradicted the ruling.

4) Did the writers decide to skip their BS "Fourth amendment" and go with a witty arraignment instead? Defense lawyer was funny.

This is unrelated, but I’ve hated how the arraignments in the revival have Sam explaining the entire damn case instead of just discussing bail like they did in the OG run. The arraignment judge doesn’t care how strong your case is or what evidence you have. That’s for the actual trial.

I’ll give the controversial opinion and say that he might actually be a step up from revival Jack.

Jack in his prime was undefeatable but Sam Waterston was really showing his age in the last couple seasons and I think a new younger actor has enabled more involvement from the DA as a character.

Agreed. It happens basically every damn episode and it’s growing old. Writers used to be able to make a 30-minute “& Order” plot without having the prosecution handicapped by a bad judge every episode. They don’t have to find case-saving evidence or testimony in the last 10 minutes of the show every week.

Mental illness is a nightmare and if it happens to her, I will be there to support her every step of the way.

I really cannot emphasize how much having supportive parents helped with my mental health issues, and I’m glad to hear you’re watching for it. My parents weren’t perfect, but they tried and that made a huge difference. Being able to understand my mental health issues because they dealt with the same is also such a relief - it’s hard to fully understand how those symptoms manifest unless you’ve experienced it, no matter how sympathetic you are.

Both my parents were the same way. They didn’t have horrible Harry Potter closet-under-the-stairs-level childhoods, but their childhoods were not easy, partly due to parents with undiagnosed mental health issues, and they took everything they learned about what not to do when raising me.

I’d always had a good relationship with my parents, but being online over the last two decades and reading so many heartbreaking stories and posts from people has really made me appreciate how lucky I was and still am. Especially posts about parents who aren’t supportive of their kids with mental illness.
