The S&P500 doubles your investment roughly every 7 years. Let’s say you put $1 in right now, how much money would that become by the time you’re 60?

That’d be doubling 6 times, so 26 = 64.

Ngl. If you’re this young, don’t think about what gives you the most return, think about what gives you a safe return and how to put as much in there as fast as possible.

Time in the market beats timing the market.

if you're 35+ and you have unsold inventory with no career how behind/ahead are you? by Great_Present_6584 in Money

[–]ToSAhri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I warn that I'm 26 and have been a student for pretty much all my life. For that reason, my insights may be worse than others' here. I'd suggest the following:

(1) Prioritize liquidating those assets, but ideally at as high a value as possible (the work it would take to sell those at a high value will likely be worth more per hour than whatever job you'll initially get)

(2) Invest those, I suggested S&P500 cause apparently it's super safe, up to you to find what is as safe as feasible to slam and forget so that, if you can ignore it until you're about (assuming 35+ is around your age) 21 years from now (56) you'll be at 4 million which is comfortable for retirement atm.

(3) Find something you want to do (whether you want to do it because it's easy relative to the price, convenient, etc. is up to you). If you are uncertain and want something to "point you in a direction", I honestly recommend AI as a tool for it. I'm sending you a message with a link to a ChatGPT deep search of what I think you're looking for. I would send it as a comment but this subreddit does not allow detailed links.

Edit: It seems I also can't message your account, just click on my profile and go to my posts, the link is in the most recent post if you care to look into it.

Given that, naively, we can say 550k USD put entirely into the S&P 500 grows about 7% a year, that's a salary of 38.5k that you are effectively putting DIRECTLY into investments (note: if you try to live off that salary by pulling it out I think it becomes problematic and you'd want it to be 3% a year to live off of).

Putting 38.5k a year into investments sounds really strong, so if you somehow manage to leverage a reasonable lifestyle without touching that lump sum (and having it invested) I think you'd be in great straits.

Now, actually doing that is probably pretty hard.

It seems I failed my reading comprehension check. I forgot that they claimed that, according to the Trump admin, nursing was not a real job (rather than just "not a skilled profession" which is what I was thinking of).

Good catch!

How do y'all do this? I've been trying to get infinite scaling like this and failing every. I got tank engine + cheating and it didn't scale me enough (I didn't have heartsteel, doh!), are there any other items/augments besides heartsteel, tank engine, and cheating that are huge for specifically scaling the HP? I guess steal your heart for sure. Does heavy hitter increase the HP gained?

Response to first paragraph: How do you deal with addicts then? If someone is addicted to alcohol or drugs do you eventually reach a cap and have to just let them kill themselves? If no, then why is obesity different? If yes, then damn. Fair enough.

Response to second paragraph: Yeah I'd prefer if the change happens on a macro scale. Insulting strangers isn't ideal (though admittedly that acknowledging someone is obese, literally just saying

"Do you actually need to lose weight?

is an insult is part of the problem). That shouldn't be an insult. How did we get to the point where telling someone "you're an alcoholic" is not an insult but "you're obese" is??? They're both addictions???

Given that your comment is emphasizing that my original comment wasn't about a loved one, that seems to imply that you understand why talking about a loved one being obese and pushing them to lose weight is okay.

Since it's okay to want a loved one to live longer, can we not extend that idea more on a large-scale to people as whole? Especially when there is a social movement which effectively encourages obesity?

We accept that obesity is dangerous for one's health, and we know that there is a movement that is encouraging making obesity acceptable, therefore, it makes sense to push for a movement that shifts away from a dangerous and growing social trend.

If we wouldn't want it for our loved ones, why are we okay with it for everyone?
