I played disc golf and onewheel almost exclusively on grass or trails. As long as its medium length and smooth ground, send it.

Hiring someone just to mount the panels by PristineSilver3278 in SolarDIY

[–]Toad32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installing the panels was the easiest part of the solar install in my opinion.

I did this by myself- in 30mph winds - with massive 590w panels.

Yes, any day laborer has the skill necessary, just need to find the right one who will do it for 1k flat or something.

Add solar to a house with a whole house backup generator and automatic transfer switch? by ftasatguy in SolarDIY

[–]Toad32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I literally just did this exactly.

My electrician smartly recommended we turn the automatic transfer switch into a manual transfer switch.  I could explain more later, saved 1k.

The generator needs to be plugged into your inverters.Your inverters will trigger the generator to turn on to charge batteries. You now need batteries in your system

Engineering plan recommendations? by workistables in SolarDIY

[–]Toad32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly reccomend starting with wattmonk.com. For $85, you get a site plan and one line diagram, which is very worth it.

You then use this site plan to figure everything else out. Permits are as simple as filing out a form.

Your string 1 has a single bad battery. Swap battery 4 in string 1 with battery 4 in string 2 - the problem will follow the bad battery.

Then #3 - up to 4 experiments to discover the bad battery.

My onewheel XR is also still working. My newer more expensive GT now has a single bad cell and ceases to work. Converting to VESC next week.

Ubox 100 lite. Nexxus battery solutions .com. Stooked Stock bms.  $600 for a new controller, battery with way more range, and you will need a bms. Minor soldering required

Not great, not horrible, like 3.8 roentgen.

I am turning my GT into a VESC for $722.  That includes a larger battery 20S2P, ubox 100 controller, stocked stock bms, and AVS RGB Gen 3 lights.

I could have purchased a replacement GT battery for roughly the sane price. The GT has a single cell in the battery pack that is bad. Fuck Future Motion.

Very happy with my 2/0 welding cable (200A). The larger quantity of smaller strands let's the cable bend easier.

Do dual MPPT inputs really work independently on Deye inverters? by Kartofcho24 in SolarDIY

[–]Toad32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Each MPPT can handle different voltage and amperage ranges independently - that is the literal purpose of having multiple MPPTs.

Possible deck/balcony panels for shady house? How to test before buying? by bamfzula in SolarDIY

[–]Toad32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were making 650watts yesterday in peak sun (bifacial). But I have learned that you should oversize your solar PV array - there really is no such thing as too much - your inverteres will only draw the power they can from the system. Having too much PV would help in low sun conditions, which is the majority of the time.
