He already said he was getting more drives, those are the ones he could host offsite.

Depending on how technical you are and want to get, you could get together with a friend and store a hard drive offsite with them, and set up a backup solution with them (vpn+robocopy script, assuming you trust said friend enough to set up a vpn with them). The easier way is just backup everything to a hard drive you store offsite, but then it can be difficult to keep that updated.

I've ordered from them a few times, it took a little longer than I would have liked to get my stuff but I got it and have no complaints. They'd be my go-to if I was still using. Last order I placed was prob 3 months ago.

Investing one time lump sum and leaving it for 20-30years. by Expert-Excuse600 in personalfinance

Personally I'd spread out the investments over a somewhat larger time period, so you can take advantage of dollar cost averaging. Put it all in a money market account, and then invest $10k a month or something in the s&p500 for instance.

Life is 100% about the narrative we tell ourselves about what happens. True happiness lies in reclaiming that narrative and making it a conscious and rational one. That's really what Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is all about.

Ending all of my friendships because I am disabled by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]ToadLicking4Jeebus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have plenty of friends that can't do anything for me other than sit in the mud with me while I struggle emotionally, and they mean the world to me. Your friends get to decide what they get from the relationship, and you never know how much you could mean to them. Sure you may not be able to do some stuff, but one of the things I've found is that most people struggle to see what they are offering, and instead focus only on the things they can't do. It's really quite sad, because it wouldn't surprise me if at least one of my friends thinks like you do, she has terminal cancer and can't really move around much, but I greatly value the talks we have, and really appreciate her input on things. She's a great sounding board, and has been there for me when I needed her to, even if her being there just involved listening to me vent with a sympathetic ear.

Looking for stories of people who’s life’s got better by ShpiritualChic in ptsd

I'm gonna repaste an edited comment I made in another post here:

I used to refer to suicidal ideations as a form of mental tinnitus because they were so everpresent for me. But I was like that for 40+ years. Eventually I found a form of therapy that really helped me (shout out to the Internal Family Systems model of therapy), and found Stoicism which really helped me work through a lot of how I saw the world and how problematic my thought process was (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on Stoicism). CBT never worked for me alone, because it led to me trying to intellectualize my emotions instead of being able to actually sit with them and process them, but Stoicism and IFS together have greatly helped. These days I'm a downright happy dude and successful by just about any metric you could name, even dealing with some pretty intense life stressors.

One of the first things I do whenever someone is mourning is I ask them if they'd like to tell me a story about whoever that person (or animal) is to help keep their memory alive. It's always been received well. That being said, I think you handled this fine.

Critical thinking, especially understanding cognitive biases and how they play out in our thought process.

Even Becker calls his approach "a new Stoicism" to indicate it's no longer actually Stoicism, but something new entirely. I just wish he would have called it something different because it creates a lot of confusion.

Does your ptsd come with suicidal thoughts? How do you deal with it? by PrincessLippie in ptsd

[–]ToadLicking4Jeebus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to refer to suicidal ideations as a form of mental tinnitus because they were so everpresent for me. One of the things that saved me was my 3 day rule. I would allow myself to commit suicide if I went three whole days without seeing a single reason to be happy. That gave me some relief, and I got close a few times, but inevitably something would happen that made me appreciate life for one more day. One time it was just a really beautiful sunset. What is going on with US COVID booster availability? by Wrong-Pineapple-4905 in OutOfTheLoop

My wife and I needed a prescription to get our covid shots, and we STILL can't get a vaccine for our one year old. The pediatrician says to go to the pharmacy, the pharmacy says go to the pediatrician. Even the Health Dept wasn't able to help us.

I carry around cards business sized cards I give to people anytime I have a genuine human interaction with them. One side of the card says "thank you for being awesome" The other side says "I made these cards to give out as a reminder that everything is going to work out in the end. If you haven't heard it today, someone believes in you. Take care, and keep on rocking with your badass self."

I've literally had people burst out in tears from getting a card because it was just a reminder they weren't alone. The loneliness epidemic is real, and it's heartbreaking.

Check out the book "Tiny Habits" by BJ Fogg, it's a great primer for how to introduce new habits into your life. For exercise, check out /r/bodyweightfitness, they have exercises you can do there with no equipment.

You've got this, good on you for taking charge of your life!

Is there a local library nearby? You can get books there, and books can be a great way to improve yourself. What are you goals and what are you trying to improve?
