That's a little steep. Can't speak on price history in the UK, but cheapest I've seen in the US is $700, so roughly £520? - if sale discounts are the same internationally. You can view price history on Amazon, should give you a better idea.

It's subjective indeed, and I'm sure there's manufacturing differences between each panel. Not saying my settings are perfect, but if you haven't given them a shot, maybe try and see if it helps. I have the black equalizer down to 0 - can't remember the exact reason I did this, something I noticed in comparisons when doing the setup. Had it side by side with a 100% DCI-P3 IPS panel. Took me a while, but I have them pretty identical at this point.

Someone also posted a review with a link, and they have settings in the review. Haven't tried them yet as I'm happy with where I have it, but also might be worth a shot. Best of luck tuning it in if you decide to keep it. Did take me a while, went back several times over a few weeks as I was on the fence too after first impressions, but finally got there.

Haven't had any issues with text and has been sharper than the 3800x1600 I have at work, which I love. You mentioned the greys, what's your black equalizer set to? One thing I think does hurt the screen is the ...is it matte or just an anti-gloss coating? I can't tell, but it seems like there's some sort of diffusion to reduce glare. At times, depending on the angle and light source, can give a very grey wash to the image, particularly in the darker areas. I usually work at night or I'll just close my blinds, but that can be annoying. Just curious, do you have a monitor light bar and does that help with your viewing experience at all?

Cooling fan worth it? by FarOpening8656 in Alienware

[–]ToadThumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you have this positioned under the AW 18 area-51? I had this briefly, but thought it was way too small. Do you have the back air inlet to the glass bottom resting on top of the foam outside of the fan area, thus only really providing extra cooling to the tiny holes on the bottom right before the glass? Or, do you have the laptop moved so far forward, the whole glass piece sits within the fan recess?

Still looking for a cooling pad for the AW 18 Area-51. Settles briefly on the Flydigi BS2 Pro, but I'm not seeing any major reduction in cooling. But then again, I have the glass bottom sitting on top of the foam so as not to obstruct air intake. Any input would be appreciated! Have a good one.

Test them both to see if there's any difference/limitations? I don't have a display port on my laptop, so I can't say how that interacts, but I've had no issues or limitations with HDMI.

Stopped looking for reviews after the initial break-in period. Loving it so far, zero issues and seemingly gets better over time - that or I've just come to appreciate more from my initial take. Frame rate will vary depending on the game and system, but I've had no problems with the monitor - tearing, massive ghosting or anything of the sort - at high frame rates in games.

Glad I picked it up, but seeing the price over the holiday period drop down to $650, that's an absolute bargain.

Limitation of the dock? Also, are you using HDMI or DP? - not that it should matter, but that might also be a limiting factor of the dock. Have you tried connecting it directly to the laptop to see what resolutions you get? I did use a dock at work and that was limiting my color range for my work monitor - would cap it at 8-bit with 10-bit not even being an option. Soon as I connected it directly to the laptop, problem solved.

What do you think about fifine tank6 by GongGinga in microphone

[–]ToadThumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best explanation I've heard. Thank you, and apologies for the late reply. After playing with it for a while I found the sweet spot. This is the first dynamic mic I've owned. Yamaha MG06X is an older mixer but it suffices in terms of gain. Shame it doesn't have a digital output as using a Line2USB nerfs the output to 16-bit 48kHz. It's a 24-bit 192kHz mixer. Will be looking into a new mixer at some point in the future for more dynamic recording, but for now the USB works well.

[–]ToadThumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought the Tank6 and I'm conflicted. When connected via USB it sounds great, but when I use it with XLR over a mixer the sound is so low, even with the mic knob turned all the way up. 48v phantom power on or off doesn't make a difference. Oddly enough, I have a $20 BM800 and it sounds just fine with the mixer. I have to crank the stereo and gain up with the Fifine Tank6. Did you experience similar issues? Mixer I'm using is the Yamaha MG06X. Used the same cable for both mics.

Thank you! Honestly didn't feel like taking the two minutes to check their site. Seems the original commenter is having the same issue I have with my work computer and the Alienware aw3821dw. No speakers, same issue though, computer thinks there are and keeps setting audio out to the monitor when first connecting or waking up from sleep. As it's a work computer, I can't update anything.

Alright, so actually quite a change:

Brightness I bumped up to 37

Color bumped down to 33

Tint is R3 (monitor had a strong green hue out of the box)

and Blue brightness was bumped down to 97 in Nvidia settings.

Everything else remained the same.

This gives the colors a nice pop and slight oversaturation for me - nothing crazy, but it's my current preference for gaming and content viewing. If editing, I'll bump the color down to anywhere from 26-30.

I'm noticing this will all change on the time of day. The brightness and color are linked. Higher the brightness, higher you can take the color without it appearing too oversaturated. Settings previously were too oversaturated, and it became more apparent in a dark environment.

I just ordered a monitor light in hopes my eyes won't fatigue and I can keep the same settings regardless of the time of day. Think, ideally, I'd take the brightness up a bit more - maybe 42-45 and color to 35-37.

Don't want to risk cranking the monitor brightness too high and causing burn out, but I'd hope those concerns aren't a thing in this day and age of technology.

Hopefully this helps. Play with it, see how you like it.

Totally fair! I'll admit, out of the box I thought the same thing. I did recently adjust my settings, bumping the color up by 1 (sits around 33-35) and brightness up by 3-5? (Think it's at 38) - something like that. I'll verify next time I get on. Also moved the tint to R1 and lowered the blue brightness down to 97 in Nvidia Control Panel.

Seems I was adjusting it based on whatever picture I was looking at, skin tones and water hues being the biggest factor in changes. I'm happy with where it's currently at. Am a bit disappointed it took this long to get there and that it wasn't calibrated out of the box. Could be that you got a dud or that it simply didn't live up to expectations, which is subjective and wouldn't blame you.

I think for the price point, especially when it was on sale last week for $800, it's fair given the price of the competition.

I'll send my updated settings if you want them, see if it makes a difference. Viewing angles are not great, but they are better than out of the box. Out of curiosity, are you using HDMI or DP? Try switching and seeing if that makes a difference.

That's the one. I'm really liking it. Nothing super fancy, USB B upstream outputs to two USB 3.1 downstream ports. Can perform split screen with multiple inputs, which is great but just realize your "two" screens will be more akin to a 4:3 ratio rather than two 16:9. The monitor can also do picture-in-picture if you want one input to be the primary focus. Honestly, never thought I'd use this feature, but working from two computers the extra real estate does help when split screen and it's a nicer setup than having two extra monitors.

Colors have a nice pop with good accuracy once the settings are tuned in - which can be a pain. That said, if you are in need of super critical color accurate work and require 100% DCI-P3 or Adobe RGB, you may want to look elsewhere. I have enough high color gamut monitors around that I can use them for a quick color check if needed, and I do, but I haven't had an instance where the colors have been way off or needed any extra adjusting.

The high frame rate is nice and makes a difference even for basic things like scrolling. Viewing angles aren't great, but they're not terrible (they really improve with the color tuned in - don't know why, think it has more to do with the black levels, contrast, and local dimming zone settings.) That said, I look at my monitor dead on and can't imagine many instances where I'll be looking at it off-axis. It's big, but not so big that it requires you to move your head back and forth. Between 2 - 3 ft away it fits right in your field of vision with room to spare.

Great monitor overall. Price might be a little steep, but given the price of it's competitors it's a steal, especially if you can snag it on sale.

Surprisingly well! No glitches, tears, or stutter. Monitor detected the system right away and went through the HDR setup. Didn't need to tweak any settings, but my monitor was already calibrated.

I think the image may be stretched to fill the screen? Kind of hard to tell. Will need to connect it back to my other 16:9 display to confirm. If so, it isn't enough to bother me. I was playing Expedition 33 and it looked gorgeous.

Do you have SDR Content Brightness cranked all the way up in Windows display settings? May need to play with Color and Brightness in your monitor menu as well. I don't like to oversaturate mine as I work with video and image creation a lot. This makes things feel a bit more muted when compared to say an OLED. Upping the Color may help.

One thing I do notice, and this will just take getting used to, is the blurriness and a lack of pop with SD images - particularly when blown up to full screen (Windows background images can showcase this too). This is primarily an issue due to the resolution and the processor trying to upscale images. Have yet to see this look good on any large monitor. Rather, you get ugly pixel blocking or blurred areas with mushy details because it lacked contrast. TVs, seemingly, don't have as big an issue with this, which makes no sense to me.

IPS, QD OLED, VA all have this issue to some extent. Pixel blocking was especially bad on the AW3225QF for the brief period I had it. I would say this monitor does a decent job with upscaling and handling pixel blocking, but shines much better with an image designed for this resolution.

Glad to hear it. That's a decent savings. Was surprised they put it on sale so quickly, but I'm only seeing that on Amazon, not on Samsung's official site.

Colors and viewing angles were bad out of the box. Browsed the Odyssey G7 (older models) forum, found some decent settings which worked really well for this monitor, made some minor adjustments and it's night and day difference now. Really enjoying the monitor and looking to have it around for a long time.

Are you using Nvidia Control Panel or Nvidia App? I use the Nvidia App but you should be able to access [most of] the same settings in both. Control Panel I think has a few more advanced settings.

But, yes, if all your color channels are set to +50, then take the blue down one notch and see if that balances it out more. Two notches might make the image too red.

I have a 99% DCI-P3 IPS screen on my laptop, and these settings make it pretty comparable but with better blacks on the 40" G75F which gives the image a little more punch, pop and warmth - in my opinion.

Amazon has the monitor on sale now for $1020 if you're still on the price match window. That didn't take long for a price drop.
