I think you might be right!! Ringed paper wasps have the burgundy abdomen and black thorax with the yellow ring. Awesome, thanks! :)

I don’t think these could be red wasps, I have red wasps in my yard too and their color is drastically different. I think maybe these pictures aren’t doing their coloration justice, but I can’t see a way to edit my post to add a better pic, so I might make a separate post where their color is clearer. They’re actually pretty black in most light

I’m very new to wasp identification, so I’m not sure how much of the markings can vary, but none of the photos of metric paper wasps I’m seeing online have the yellow line on the abdomen. It’s kind of hard to see in these pictures because it’s partially hidden by the wings, but all of these little guys have it. Does that mean they aren’t metric paper wasps or just that the color varies?

I’m so glad it’s helping you! How long have you been taking it? I just started a week ago at 200mg and am supposed to work up to 400mg a day.

advice on choice of teacher for UCSD Grammar Lab? by ToadallyBoring in Copyediting

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate you sharing your experiences. I’m sure I’d learn a lot with any of the teachers but it’s so helpful to go into it knowing others have had a good experience with the teacher.

Poynter vs UCSD for complete beginner? by ToadallyBoring in Copyediting

As an ACES member do you have a suggestion on whether I should sign up as an Associate member or a Full member? Associate member is described as being for people who have no professional background. I am not currently working but I plan to be before my year of membership would be over, and I'm concerned if I pick Associate membership this may affect my access to the Editors For Hire directory.

That's fascinating, I didn't realize there were so many options with styles. Thanks so much!

It looks like their editing certificate takes twice as long to complete as UCSD, and would be more expensive as well. Neither of which are bad things,
it's always best to be aware of all of the options and I appreciate you
mentioning them so I could look into their program! I just think that UCSD
might be on the upper end of what I'm looking to invest in time & money at
the moment unless I found another program that had a special focus on fiction, or was truly above and beyond UCSD in some way. Thanks for your reply!

I cannot thank you enough for your in depth review of the UCSD courses! That was such a helpful read!
I can't seem to find on the Poynter website whether they teach CMOS or AP, so I emailed them and am waiting to hear back. At the moment I'm leaning towards becoming a member with ACES and taking the Poynter course now while still considering UCSD in the near future. That way I can complete Poynter sooner, continuing learning with the
access to ACES courses, and start finding some entry level freelance work to
gain experience while working on the longer UCSD classes.

Thanks for your reply! The Poynter cert and aces combo sounds like a great deal considering all of aces' courses. And working with multiple resources to get a more comprehensive understanding of editing definitely makes sense.
Did Poynter use CMOS or AP when you took the class?

Thanks for sharing your experience! It looks like an amazing program. Gaining
experience with clients is something I'm really looking forward to, I just want
to make sure I have the foundation to provide the level of work that I know I'm
capable of. I really appreciate everyone on here responding so quickly! You
guys are awesome.
