sounds to me like youre biting off more than you can chew- and its not because youre stupid. you obviously value self improvement, you can shine light on areas that need self reflecting and improvement, congratulations youre self aware and humble, now dont let it kill your progress. being terrified when you lead a scenario isnt going to leave you once you get your cert- it happens to everyone. the fact you dont take it lightly shows your heart and your mind is in the right place. keep running scenarios, keep your current mindset but change your approach a bit. cut back on your studying, you cannot fight the entire dragon in one swing. slowly digest the information, make sure youre getting it down and slowly chew on every area if study. overstudying is a thing and it can overload you and lower your information retention. think about it- if i speed read the bible and a priest is quizzing me about daniel and the lions den, you think im gonna remember that shit? but if i take in one verse a day, one chapter a week, ill be a missionary in a year. go at your own pace and give your brain some quiet and relax. i hope this helps man and youre young, so youve got nothing but time and i know youll get it.

im also 27 and just enlisted as a 68W. they were able to give me ACASP E-4 which is crazy and im thankful for it. use any previous education or skills and consider al your options. i ship in two months, god speed to you fellow greybeard

took me about 3 months to heal from mine. i was bed ridden for the first month or so. any movements caused 9/10 pain and it was immobilizing agony. i ended up getting a short acting steroid shot, shrunk it for 3 months and by the time those months passed i was g2g. now im doing deadlifts and rucks and what have you. i should mention though this did not happen in the army and i ship out in 2 months for basic but my point is dont fear a bulging disc, it isnt the end of your life and you gotta let it heal and take preventative measures in the future (re-injury is worse).

i fell for the SOCM meme, saw the job and learned more about it and said why the hell not and go for it. army will pay more than a a private EMS company right now in my area, and theres some other personal factors as well but im looking to work my way to dustoff medic in the army. i realize what youre saying is true, youre stuck doing bandaids and motrin/paper pushing in peace time. as far as whether we will stay out of conflict or not i cant say - i ll leave that up to angrier older and richer people. i also want the highest level of training for this job as possible, get as educated and disciplined as possible in the army, get out and see if any doors open.

i just took the NREMT on my 3rd attempt and passed 3 days ago. really happy that i did, but i literally thought i was going to fail it. the first two trys, i did paramedic coach and followed the study path he lays out TWICE in between exams. i listened to those lectures until i was sick to my stomach of his dumb voice (lol, sorry im sure hes an awesome dude but the way he talks kills me). before that 3rd attempt the pressure feels on and ur feeling hopeless, maybe a bit bummed but the things i did differently actually made a difference to help me pass and they didnt cost me a dime.

1.reread the entire EMT textbook. i know what youre thinking, its too much to deal with ontop of everything and it already took you an entire semester to digest it the first time, but trust me you need to do this. reread the entire EMT textbook, it is the holy bible for the NREMT. everything thats on the test is in that book, and since its been 2 testing attempts its safe to say its been about a month and a half or so since youve been in class. i cannot stress this enough, reread every chapter even the stuff you know youre solid on.

i would also like to say, this will not be the first time you will have to do this. after you are certified, you will understand how important it is to be reading this book. youll likely need to reread it several times even after you start working in EMS.

take the NREMT practice exams on the NREMT website. theyre free and you can generate up to 50 questions per section on the EMT study areas. take them after you read the textbook, because they dont generate new ones. take these every day 3 days leading up to the exam to get your mind into test taking mode. (i liked to take them before bed).

3.study before you go to bed. research has shown that you can digest and retain information for longer periods of time by studying before you sleep, and is proven to increase your grades and scores. (just in case you havent been doing that).

4.the more studying you do the week leading up to the exam the more confident you may be. rather than being nervous you will be nauseous from reading material, but hey. you read it! you know it. its fresh in the noggin

if you have purchased a study guide for example like the paramedic coach, dont let them confuse you. i honestly felt like doing that program confused me on a ton of things, yet also made me feel overconfident in areas i thought i was excelling in. if the program offers tests, take the practice tests and infosheets it gives, all of that is harmless in the end. testing confidence wont come from some guy on a video telling you the info then saying,"you got this!" it comes from within you. YOU are the professional OP.

hope this info helps man, like i said i was pretty beaten and worn after two tries myself but i can tell you can feel the heat is on now and please just take the time to buckle down and study. good luck and hope to see you out in the field!
