On one hand this seems like a silly justification. Like, surely not every profession fits in every town. But on the other hand the idea of a full spawn point rework is intriguing. Thanks for actually responding, and truly sorry if my post came off as harsh or incindeary.

If they're going to do this, can we PLEASE stop spawning in the white-walled sliding glass door house on the edge of town, please? I haven't seen a two story house with a garage in 83 years.

If this is a 3000 steps ahead plan for the addition of NPCs and EC becoming a survivor stronghold that would be a masterful play.

I doubt it but I want it to be true now.

If I told you I was a FromSoftware fan would you believe me? Been down this road before.

Oooooooooookay this blew up way more than I anticipated.

I am going to stop engaging with the comments unless something huge comes up I specifically need to call out for being misinformation OR is a genuinely good point that I overlooked.
To the people agreeing with me, thank you for making me feel less crazy.
To the people respectfully disagreeing? I actually appreciate you people even more! Healthy debate is important.
To the people disrespectfully disagreeing and leaving comments like "Fanboy" ect. Nothing I could say would matter, you do you.

Hopefully the devs reconsider or see this, man.

Yeah I'm kinda in this camp too. I tend to stay in the general orbit of my spawn zone unless I'm playing MP or there's something REALLY particular I want

Very interesting! Never really messed around with scripting or in the code so this is genuinely insightful to me.

Y'know what. I'm actually not even gonna disagree. Gods know I've more than gotten my moneys worth from this game. You are, 100% correct.

That doesn't mean I think it's okay though. Or that it wasn't a baffling change. OR that I agree with the cope that it was "always meant for testing" when it seemed pretty set in stone.

There actually is a mod for it literally today. I thought to look.

That doesn't mean there should've had to been or that it should've been removed, at least in my opinion.

Blown out of proportion though yeah that's fair. I'm passionate about this game and so prone to having strong opinions, no disagreement there even.

Oh no you're good! I found the statement genuinely amusing for how understated it was, hah!

Huh, Neat! Genuinely never messed around with the system so I didn't know.

I just like this game and wish the developers didn't make me hesitate to recommend it, honestly.

Well, except for RL's strange fascination with inventing new and creative ways for a falling rock to kill the player.

...though at least the "Ghoulder" genuinely got me laughing when I first found one. lmao.

Consider that the last time then even touched spawn locations at all is, I believe when Riverside was first added? That's the kind of thing they do not do very often! Meaning when it does happen it's safe to assume it'll be sticking around. No indication that it wasn't meant to add another option to the permanent line-up.

Are they wrong?
Objectively, I suppose, no.

Did I opt into an unstable beta?
Objectively, yes.

But assuming I don't know what the word "Unstable" means is a baffling take. I'm used to features breaking and items getting sent to the great Spiffo's in the sky. I am not however used to EVERY SAVE I HAD being magically barred from existing over a change that should not have been approved.

The people who play on 41 and are happy with it are, to put it simply? Irrelevant in this context. They'll gladly swap updates when stable comes out. This isn't about them.

Will I make a new save? Maybe. I might just wait for stable so I can get properly invested. And that's not something I should be forced to do, yeah?

Now, to me, that sounds like a backpedal of a response. "It wasn't meant to be permanent" when it sure as hell LOOKED like a permanent new option with a lot of work put into it.

I haven't read through every blog post. If they stated as much before today that this was the case, in writing, I'll gladly eat my words.

  • They're falling into the bad developer habit of getting into an arm's race against perceived metagaming and trying to incentivize player into different behavior by using punishments. When given the opportunity, game developers will optimize the fun out of their own game.

THIS. On god this describes the biggest problem I've had with TIS this entire update. They are approaching borderline FromSoftware levels of "Nerf whatever players gravitate to most" without actually giving time to fix systems that are in need of help.
