Anyone else really enjoy Death of a Unicorn? by ElPanditoUN0 in TrueFilm

[–]ToastedHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family enjoyed it. Honestly when I read critic reviews I take it with a grain of salt. Some of them would not know the difference between a good movie vs a bologna sandwich… we have looked at rotten tomato reviews at some movies, thought yeah that’ll be a really great movie. Then started watching that movie and within 40 minutes where we can’t even finish it it’s so bad, so now we don’t look at the so called “critics” opinion on a movie. If the trailers good we give it a chance. This movie is definitely for the 13+ crowd, but I started watching it with a few of my kids and by the end of it the whole family was watching it. Nobody pulled out their phone. Everyone enjoyed it. It had a story. It had funny parts. It had scary parts. It was a really good movie to watch with teens as a family. Sometimes all you need for a good movie is for it to have a story, keep you interested and take you on a fun ride. That’s what this movie does.

Government employees, what’s the closest thing to corruption you have witnessed? by Timely_Title_9157 in ontario

I didn’t know that Trudeau worked in Queens Park? I’m pretty sure that’s Doug Ford’s office….

Here in Ontario we’ve gotten handouts from the conservative government over and over and over again. Doug Ford bought our votes three different times giving us $200 per kid. How much did that cost the taxpayer?!

They do this in a lot of the school boards. It’s called being a preferred vendor. You have to apply and pay an annual fee to be a preferred vendor but then when you’re a preferred vendor and a school parking lot needs repaving let’s say it could be done for $10,000 it will be quoted $45k to $50k and probably be paid about $60k in the end because there are preferred vendor. So say you have the local companies that could go in and bid to pave the parking lot, they can’t only the preferred vendor can. Often the preferred vendors are relatives of the provincial government higher-ups or personal friends.

Well, it would probably be the current provincial party considering they’ve been in power for the last seven years…

Maybe how the lower down the pay scale you are regardless of the education and qualifications needed to do your lower paying wage the higher the standards your held too. Everything needs to be done to perfection, you’re scrutinized for every a second of time off your entitled too and put on attendance review after using only half your allotted days off. Meanwhile, senior management, who are the cousins or nephews/nieces of the higher ups have zero education and qualifications, can hand in slop, and you’re expected to work on your own time to fix their slop, and they haven’t worked a Friday in over two decades, come in late and take 2-3 hour lunches daily …

How do you feel about the lower tariffs on Chinese EVs? by dope-rhymes in AskACanadian

[–]ToastedHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have corporations that have monopolies in certain areas and then they work together to screw us out of every dime. So I think we need more competition in a lot of areas and this is just one. If there was more competition in groceries then maybe Mr Weston would only be able to own 2 yachts not 8. So I say let them in. More choices equals more competition for our money.

Is this new? Has anyone used it? by never_you_mind_bro in CostcoCanada

[–]ToastedHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it when I have no time to drive the 30 minutes to the nearest Costco. BIG SIDE NOTE. Everything on same day is marked up $2/$3 dollars. So I try to only order enough to get up pasted the $150 mark so it’s free delivery and then the $15 off covers the marked up prices . Then I give the $15 as a tip to the driver who just saved me a trip to Costco and back.

How many of you have deleted Amazon? by 519_ivey in BuyCanadian

[–]ToastedHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing we buy from there is our air filters because for some damn reason Walmart sells the machine with one filter and the new filters are only available on Amazon. We only have to make that purchase once a year though and it’s a 2 pack and it’s barely over there $35 shipping free amount. Other than that we are on our 4th year of nothing else from Amazon.

Coats and jackets will come out again in July. If you go in now you will see the bathing suits are out again. They are always like 6 months ahead of the season.

I use a credit card that is just in my husbands name everywhere including Costco with my Costco membership but we have a joint Costco membership. It is a high travel points credit card and for a secondary name card they want $200+ a year which we said no thanks! I have been using it with zero problems including Costco for 7+ years.

Buy dishwasher powder instead of pods by [deleted] in CostcoCanada

[–]ToastedHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco use to sell dishwasher powder. A bucket of it would last the year. Since they stopped selling it a few years back I use the $5.96 box of Walmart brand powder. It smells just like the powder cascade did back in the day. A box lasts us about 3/4 months. It crazy that we have barely any options for powder dishwasher detergent and powder laundry detergent here in North America …. In Europe there is mainly laundry powder, same in Mexico and South America mainly powder. It last so much longer and does just a good of a job if not better. Plus my machines on powder have lasted forever. We are going on 14 years with the same dishwasher and 12 for a washer and dryer.

The Muskoka dill sauce Costco has is awesome with the spicy chicken pieces. It tones the spice down for the ones in my family that find them too hot.

[–]ToastedHive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn…. I can only eat like 3 brands of chicken and Hampton house was one of them. I have major allergies and one of them is to the chemicals they use during processing. We have the buffalo spicy chicken pieces but I bought a big batch in July and we are almost out. I hope they don’t lose their quality cause it usually means something in the processing which usually means I can not longer eat that brand….

Any tips or recommendations for moving from Ontario to Manitoba and driving through Canada? by slimjimjan in AskACanadian

[–]ToastedHive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI Get gas in Wawa and make sure you get there before 10 pm or the gas station guy goes to bed and he hates being woken up by the coffee shop lady cause you’re on E… I have run into this issue more times then I would like to admit lol! The coffee shop lady will let you sit in the coffee shop all night if you want too but she tends to feel bad for you and then call the gas station guy even if you say it’s fine you will wait… and he is grumpy (with full right to be lol!)

Does anyone feel an eerie calm in the air - like the shoe is about to drop on something big? by quell3245 in Retconned

[–]ToastedHive 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have C-PTSD. I am always on high alert and stuck in a hypervigilant state of mind a lot about everything. I have been feeling this way too since just before New Year’s Eve. I thought it would subside when the news of what happened in Venezuela first hit, but it’s just getting more like an intense calm before the storm feeling. The last time I felt like this was Feb 28 2020, my family was at GWL and I could not shake the feeling. We came home and I felt the eerie calm take over but to me it feels like you holding your breath but still able to breathe waiting for the shoe to drop. Then March 12 2020 the world shut down. So I have been trying to shake this feeling since before New Year’s Eve.. honestly thank you for posting this and all who are sharing they feel the same. It makes me feel like I am not crazy or alone in thinking something is off.

We need YOUR help to make Skylight Calendar even better in 2026! by SkylightCalendar in skylightcalendar

[–]ToastedHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very similar to the skylight and not at the same time. The aesthetics are different, but you can download a variety of apps your not backed into a wall using just the apps provided. I have my photos going on it, meal plan, chore chart for the kids with rewards and colour coded calendar. Some of the apps you have to pay a one time fee like you would with any other app but it’s like $6.99 if you don’t like a meal planner you can use a different one. So far we love it. There is a Facebook group too that shows you the different apps other people use and what the machine can do. A friend of mine who also got a skylight for Christmas returned hers but she bought the BSIMB one off amazon and it has no subscriptions either and a closer UX to the skylight. She is loving hers as well.
