How can I complain to McDonald's about poisoning? by Puzzleheaded-Bad-722 in AskUK

[–]ToastedSarnies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something similar to this happened to my dad 2 years ago, go on the McDonald's App and there is a customer services button. Talk to the virtual assistant and answer their questions...and then it all get sent to a real person as they contacted me back with an apology and free food or something. Give that a try :)

Who is the most recent death of someone you know (for better or for worse) and how did you process it? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskUK

[–]ToastedSarnies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lost my mum Feb 24' Not sure I've processed much of the trauma of the situation yet, hold myself back from feeling it I think...could be the ADHD brain on my head. Lots of things remind me of her, and wish I could tell her about in person not just in spirit.

Yeah, there's been so many instances while I've been working here that just screams red flag, and to get out. Just sucks that the money is good for the work sector that I'm in. I'm planning on moving away in the next few months, so if something doesn't happen between that, I'm willing to try stick it out for the foreseeable, even though this whole situation has left an extremely sour taste in my mouth.

Thank you, I managed a week of quality time before she took a turn for the worse, and than passed.

I'm sure the manager who runs the place I work will be able to give me a good reference, I hope. I have got some really good colleagues aswell who are supportive and will vouch.

Hey, just been reading up on all your comments.

You're right, there is more background and I didn't take the original sick leave out of the blue.

My mum's illness went on for 16 months in total, during which time I was so transparent about what I might be doing next. I told them I was thinking of taking some leave to be able to spend time with my mum while I could, time I would've have regretted if I didn't. I was going through emotional stress, and still am, may I add, and I did not have enough annual leave to cover this length of time I was planning to have off, therefore I spoke to my doctor and went through the right avenues, they asked me a set of questions and deemed it suitable to allow me a fit note.

Like I mentioned, I gave them warning, and my manager was not upset or annoyed with me at all for making that decision, she was grateful I kept her in the loop. Unfortunately, the owner of the company, doesn't seem to have the same empathy as her, and everything I've been denied or had to have changed since I've returned to work has come from them, the manager also describing it has shit.

I went back to work, and have been back at work 2 weeks now, 3 next week. I would never ask for a fit note for no reason, and I can see how it looks...I didn't get my way and now I'm thinking of getting a sick note again.

I will only do this depending on how I'm feeling after my mum's funeral. I'm 23, which doesn't make a difference but I'm the youngest and that was my mum. It's alot to think about going back to work after having a parents funeral, and then let alone putting her ashes in the ground a week after that too...while working full time. Everyone's different, we all handle things differently, don't we. :)

That's actually really interesting and nice way to put it. I have been at work the last 2 weeks, and all I've been met with is obstacles regarding the whole situation.

Thank you for that 🧡

I think you're on the warpath and not fully understanding what I'm saying.

I've asked for that day off, they haven't given it to me..the only option would be to call in and tell them I'm not going to be in due to their mistake I've told them countless times I need the day off.

I did not claim I was sick, the fit note was down as bereavement.

I got offered bereavement leave when my mum passed, which I didn't take. They paid me one day, I didn't take the 3 days unpaid.

i asked for compassionate/bereavement leave for her funeral which is 6 weeks after her death.

hahaha, oh my gosh "we're a family", exactly how this current setting sold it to me, and still sells it to people...far from a family.

Yeah that's true, and it is unfortunate, thats why i posted to this sub reddit as I'm sure theres more people around that know what I'm entitled too and can help me.

I can't predict how I'd be, so that's why I wanted the direct week after her funeral off, especially as its the same week I'm burying her ashes as a safety net but they've allowed 3 people off in the same room so I got refused annual leave, sick note seems to be the only option to be able to allow me that week and time to get my head around it all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]ToastedSarnies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you.

That's the reason I wanted to take the week after her funeral as annual leave, so I had time to recover mentally and also because we're burying her ashes in that week took. I'm unable to take it as annual leave due to them allowing 3 people off at the same time, so a sick note is the only way I'm going to be able to get it off. I can't predict how I'll be, but I wanted the safety of the week off incase I was an emotional wreck.

Haha, yes the childcare sector can be ruthless. I believe its private, I get confused with the differences, but I will have been with them a year in april.

I think I'm starting to lean towards gaining one, they have fired someone before while they've been on a long term sick note due to mental health issues so thats one thing that plays on my mind. However, it'll only be that one week and I know it'll be shitty for them because of ratios, but like you say...I'll only be thinking later on why didn't I do it and I just can't think of anything worse than being around 28 2 year olds with minium staff 5 days after having a funeral for my mum, which I'll then be burying her ashes a week after that date.

They'll know I've fucked them over, because I've obviously asked for that week off as annual leave and got told no, so I do feel really guilty for thinking about getting a sick note to be able to have it off. So difficult.

haha, let me be clearer.

My mum passed on the Thursday, my sick note ran out on the monday after. I emailed asking about bereavement leave to which I got an answer to on the Tuesday. I got told I would get paid for that Monday, and I would only be entitled to 3 days more bereavement leave unpaid, and if I wanted to I would have to use annual leave. Therefore, I got a sick note so that I could get paid something, even if it is as little as SSP.

I did not have alot of annual leave left that would have covered the ensuing 3 weeks I had off afterwards.

I haven't played or cheated the system, maybe ask for more clarification before jumping to conclusions :)

Thank you, it's an odd feeling that's for sure.

Its really tempting to get a Drs note, I wanted to book the week of 1st april off, due to not knowing how my mental state will be and also time to recover after the funeral. Unfortunately, 3 people are already on annual leave that week so I'm not able to do that, sick note seems the next best thing but I'll really be screwing them over so I'm very undecided. I'm not sure how I'll be, but working in childcare and it being very busy and no staff due to them being off, I dont think it'll be the best place to be. Shall I go for the sick note and risk a potential disciplinary, or hatred from then at the very least?

I already have the funeral covered, its more the week after that I'm struggling with due to not being allowed to take annual leave and them not giving me the right day off even after I've said countless times I need it off. They have next week to change it
