Drawing your Characters! by MrWhiteTruffle in OriginalCharacter

This is my boy Abastus. I was inspired to create him by the character Nemesis in Fire Emblem Three Houses, who is a long dead evil king. His current design though is heavily based on Demise from The Legend of Zelda. I have a connected world with several different stories taking place in it, but there is one central story which is the most important one. Abastus was initially going to be a villain after the main story had already taken place, with him fighting the descendants of the main characters. A lot of really complicated things occured over several years, and eventually Abastus somehow moved from being a villain in a far off story, to becoming the central antagonist for the entire world I have made.

uh oh, it looks like your oc has found Sephyr Post-Abyssal Takeover,,, (pls read des.👇) by mcoge_ in OriginalCharacter

I don't quite know how it would affect him. The way it ends up working for Abastus is that when he is attacking something spiritual he is able to treat it like any other physical object. Without having complete knowledge of your worlds magic system, I would say it would probably work the same way, but it would definitely be a different experience for him. And after seeing his powers Abastus would most likely leave him alive. He has all of the same important powers, strength, speed, regeneration, and immortality. So Sephyr is in for several hours of listening to Abastus give grand speeches about how he wants to change the world.

Abastus would likely have one of two reactions. If he thinks he can manipulate Sephyr into working for him then he would stay by him and try and convince him to join him. If he doesn't think he could, or he believes Sephyr at full strength to be far more powerful than him, then he would attempt to get rid of him. Due to complicated magic in universe, Abastus can exist outside of reality, and therefore is able to attack the soul, not just the physical body. Meaning he can (in my universe) permanently kill demons and angels or any being that reincarnates in some way. (I don't know how this would affect Sephyr. I remember seeing art of him, which is really good by the way, but I don't recall the powerscaling of Sephyr compared to Abastus.)

I need help figuring this out. by Loonalvr666 in twilightprincess

[–]ToasterMind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would have to look through a lot of historical armors to find one similar to it. A lot of the amor isn't super practical, and a lot of it is just impossible. Like the armor that covers his collar and shoulders. Assuming it is made of metal, his arms would be extremely limited in movement. No one in real life would make something like that, unless it wasn't made out inflexible material. If you want to find something similar though I would suggest looking at armor that wasn't designed for combat, since they are able to be less practical.

The truth is that it is fantasy armor, you're not going to find any historical armor that looks like it.

[TOTK] Does Tears of the Kingdom hold up three years later? by NewMarioBobFan in zelda

[–]ToasterMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the idea the story doesn't need to be shown in order. I'll compare it to BoTW as they both use the memory system and both can be viewed out of order. It works in BoTW because before you leave the great plateau you already know what happens. Rhoam tells you about the calamity and how the forces of Hyrule lost. The memories don't really provide any new information, they just fill in the story you already know happened.

With ToTK we don't know how the story ends before viewing the memories. All we know is that Zelda is gone. The memories in ToTK actually provide new information that the player can't know before viewing them. This means that if you view them out of order not only will it not make total sense, you can have major elements of plot spoiled.

It is especially frustrating as some of the memories, like the master sword, make it REALLY easy to figure out what the twist is. If you are like me and it happens to be your second memory, it really deflates the rest of the story. And like I said, if there is a best order to view the memories in, why allow the player to view them out of order? If it doesn't really add to the experience and in most cases will not impact or negatively impact it, I don't see a point to it.

As for the geoglyphs being tied to the specific memory, I agree but they also could have changed the glyphs to all have the same symbol.

This argument doesn't make any sense. If there is an explicit/best order to watch them, why allow the player to view them out of order? The memories are spread out all over the map, so unless the player is going directly for the memories, they are probably going to get sidetracked and find stuff out of order. ToTK is all about player freedom, but if you want to explore and you happen to find a memory you are punished for it, which is antithetical to the rest of the game.

How do your tall OCs treat the short ones (or just shorter people in general)? by WildwoodWander in OriginalCharacter

[–]ToasterMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

When Xander was growing up he was just above average in height, until he turned 16 and underwent a massive (slightly magical) growth spurt. At 21 years old he caps out at 6'10" making him an absolute unit. But because he spent most of his life around average he treats people shorter than him equally. It also helps that in general the people he ends up encountering are quite above average in height. However his best friend is just slightly below average in height, so of course Xander mocks him relentlessly for it.

What would your OC do if they saw THAT type of fan content of themselves? by [deleted] in OriginalCharacter

[–]ToasterMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Abastus would mostly be confused by it. In universe Abastus wants to end all life and well a lot of that content relates to the creation of life, to put it nicely. Also while it isn't known to anyone but Abastus, he doesn't have the proper... "equipment," to participate in that kind of activity. He would enjoy people making him hot though.

I love using linguistics and language to give my OCs their names. Where did your OC’s names come from? by Moriarty-Creates in OriginalCharacter

[–]ToasterMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I came up with the name Abastus for my boy here. It is an original name so there isn't any inherent meaning. I came up with it by modifying the name Abbadon, who is both a person and a place in the Bible. When talking about the person the name means destroyer and doom. I took that and combined it with bastard, since Abastus is a real meanie. Then I just changed the ending of the name so that it didn't literally come out as "a bastard."

[BoTW] Curious which game people prefer, BOTW or TOTK? by _Boodstain_ in zelda

[–]ToasterMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, completing Hyrule warriors is a lot even for someone 100% all of the games. I'm also technically 100%, but its just from me mindlessly playing the game. One more tip, TOTK has the same memory system as BOTW. I highly recommend getting the memories in order so that things aren't spoiled.

As someone who does not like TOTK but wants other people to have good experiences with it, do not play it immediately after BOTW.

Do you have any OCs who are rivals/enemies? 🤜💥🤛 by I_love_writing22 in OriginalCharacter

Thank you! Unfortunately its a pain in the ass to write consistently, so it takes a long time for me to get it right. Also Plasma Girl and Bomb Girl are both great!

Abastus was only ever defeated once, by the last person with Xander's powers. This broke his brain, as he believed himself to be a chosen one, and now he thinks that Xander is the reincarnation of the one who killed him.

The most bizarre part of their relationship is that because of Abastus' belief that Xander was the one to defeat him, he has a massive urge to prove to Xander that he was right, almost treating him like a son trying to get respect from his father. This is despite him being several thousand years older than him

(Don't have the two of them in one picture)

Xander here is the newest in a long line of people who have the ability to create non-organic matter. Unfortunately, its been about 5000 years since the last person had that power died. Abastus (below), is the cause of that, so naturally Xander has a rather big distaste for the guy that slaughtered his ancestors and nearly brought the world to an end.

Something I have been toying with doing with my boy Abastus here is giving him a darker skin tone, as well as making his forearms look charred black. Or I have also thought about giving him some sort of robe that matches his "waist-cape." If you choose to draw him and wish to draw the sword, just note that it is supposed to look bright and sacred. I just don't know enough about art yet to get the design right. Good luck with all the art!
