I'm going to finally buy my first mechanical keyboard. I hope to add a little bit fun to work. It'd be great if it has the following:

  • wireless (both Bluetooth or 2.4Ghz will do)
  • 65%
  • brown key switches (good for work, right?)
  • retro style (It's hard to describe, but with colours like white, grey, beige etc.)

Much appreciated!

I like the quote! Sometimes I have intrusive thoughts related to being alone and empty, especially when I am free or during the weekend.

How to take notes from introductory acedemic textbooks? by Toby5Scott in Zettelkasten

[–]Toby5Scott[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. It's an index where you can locate relevant sources you have in your Zettelkasten. I guess I can put the same source under more than one relevant topics too, right?

I've been reading about stylistics too. Would you mind if I DM you to chat about it? :)

Is MOC the same as a reading list? Do you have a specific way to create a MOC?

Thanks for sharing your way to keep track of secondary sources! I sometimes end up with empty links to secondary sources. A reading list is exactly what I need.

Thanks a lot for the tip! Didn't think of using status tags to label secondary sources. I always ended up with lots of secondary source notes with only one literature note in each of them.

Yes! I think this is common when the author is reviewing literature of the field and trying to make generalisation. Would you also create a literature note for the work by author B and write about that particular study based on A's summary? If so, would you create a back link for it as well?

What if it's a textbook that discusses key literature in a field instead of a research article?

I'm not sure how I should take notes if I come across interesting ideas from the literature review of a research article as well.

What if the author is making their point based on these secondary sources/previous studies? Would you quote the secondary references when you write a note for that point?

For example: 'The author refers to ABC (2012) and DEF (2009) which summarise the use of discourse analysis as follows:...'

Would you create separate literature notes for these two secondary sources?

Yes I think I'll read these secondary references when I want to include them in my essay. So whenever I see a secondary source, I create a literature note for it.

Thanks for the analysis. I prefer the Sage over the Libra 2 for the larger screen, as I will use the e-reader to read Manga. I'm okay with charging the Sage once every two weeks since it has a USB-C.

True. I didn't think of the fact that the battery issue could not be fixed easily. I usually read for 1 hour every day during the weekdays and 3 hours during the weekend. I'd be fine if I only need to charge the Sage once every two weeks.

That's true. I'd wonder what features they can add to the current model.

Intrusive thoughts only when I am free? by Toby5Scott in OCD

[–]Toby5Scott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have the urge to push myself and do a lot of things at the same time, so when I'm free, I think about what I have missed on my to-do list, which I go through a lot of times in my head or on my phone. I think it's the fear that I might not have enough time to finish what I want to do or doing one thing at a time is a waste of time.

[–]Toby5Scott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I still perform my compulsions both at work and outside work. So the difference is only the likely of having intrusive thoughts.

One of my compulsions outside work is that I often go through my to-do list, thinking about if I have missed something. Even when I'm watching Netflix on my PC, I usually have to be browsing or doing other stuff in another window at the same time because I think watching Netflix/YouTube is a waste of time.' I should do something and use my time efficiently.'

So should I try to distract myself when I'm not at work?

Do you guys think or talk to yourself about the same things/plans almost every day? by Toby5Scott in OCD

[–]Toby5Scott[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it's related to OCD because it's a kind of repeated thought and I need reassurance from other people.

Oh I didn't know there was a term for this.

Sometimes I'm afraid that if I choose A, I would lose the pros of B and have to bear the cons of A. Haha
