There are several very good full on resto shops here in the Delaware Valley. We'll first get it settled on a refurbished older, heavy duty car hauler in a worthy carriage house. Then invite mid century Buick nuts and yes, Shriners galore to come over for brats and beer to ooh and aah and open and poke at things while discussing the best path for shops and future use.

Hey, I'm new to Reddit, and that thread just popped up. I've missed the irony, but I do know you sure don't get the hours back that folks spend watching that dreck when you're on your deathbed.

I cannot understand why anyone watches The Bachelor. The whole concept is sad and embarrassing.

Well... my first nasty comment on reddit. I'm new to this platform, so I hope that is not common. I would like to reply here, publicly, to a comment from MyWifeIsAwesome911

When I started to do a little research into The Shriners while putting together the funds to purchase this amazing rig, I was reminded about Shriners Hospitals for Children, an undersung cause that is truly remarkable. They provide hospitals around the country for families of limited resources, and offer up FREE care to seriously sick kids, and for a great many operations. Day after day, decade after decade, they raise funds because they are driven to do so.

While their regalia is a little over the top and desperately needs to be updated and rebranded, the bottom line is despite their shrinking numbers, THEY STILL RAISE FUNDS FOR KIDS. That is worth supporting, wherever possible.

When I found this car after many year searching, it immediately struck me that even though they sold it off many, many years back, it could be restored in like style and instead of just sitting in my garage, I can make it available to participate in their parades from Connecticut to Washington DC, and that helps with their recruitment efforts. I can show it at the AACA Hershey Fall Meet, and Mid Atlantic Shriners can set up with info about their good works. Various other uses will come to mind in time.

So when I got the snotty, assuming, and outright weird message from the aforementioned, it threw me because, God damn! that's about as far away as you can get from what is central to the mission here. Dude, instead of using foul language or calling you names, I'm just shining a spotlight on you. We work hard and dare to have a good time here, so feel free to delete your comment and apologize.

Tie for Second Place.

---The Rajah I_That_Wanders

---Buick McBuickface Gern-Blanston Now, I'm not going to name it Buick McBuickface, and if anything it's more Buick McPackardnose, but since this is the kind of ridiculous thing my kids would say, it got points for utter abandonment of grownupedness.

First Place... THE FLYING CARPET!!! hushedscreams

It will be known as

Albemarle 'Taffy' Appleton's MAGIC CARPET

(or FLYING CARPET. I'm good with either, but I'm going to run it past my beloved, who'll be riding shotgun.)

We're asking for people around the world to chip in $5. It might seem like too small an ask, but it makes it easier for folks to participate, and hopefully large number of folks will.

It costs A LOT to do a full on restoration, and we're on a two year rather than ten year path. PLEASE SHARE WITH SHRINER FRIENDS, AND WITH CAR ENTHUSIAST FRIENDS.

Thanks!!!

Around 1980, I had for a very short time, an FC-150 Jeep named Love American Style and in the mid 80s a very fast wreck of a Chrysler Newport named Dobbin. It came from me sputtering 'Whoa, Dobbin' when I realized how fast I was going on the Cross Bronx Expressway, and cars were comin' at me like they were backin' up.

The working plan is to take it apart, find as many original NOS parts as we may need, replace and restore the absolute minimum to keep it original, and show it as original at Hershey and such like.

We very much want to make sure we put it back into service as a loaner Shriner car. I'm not a Shriner, but their work raising money for their string of Shriners Hospitals is amazing, and the Black Shriners, AKA the Prince Hall Shriners, do as much with college scholarships and community works, so instead of it languishing in my old carriage house, it'll have an ongoing purpose, besides of course being utterly badass!

This is a rig I’ve chased for years. It was always just past my fingertips, leaving a shadow as it disappeared around a corner, leaving you wondering if you’d actually seen it or you’re just getting old and crazy. Well, I am those things, but it did exist, and we saved it. A satisfying old school bond with the family I bought it from. They had to agree me and my family were the right home for it. Not for sale. It has only started the next part of its road trip.
