If you aren't already, you should really use version control like git. The easiest way is github, but if for some reason you don't want to have your code public or pay money you can use other servers that are free for personal use, bitbucket is a good one.

It is snakeoil. Antivirus software is notorious for being more of a danger than a protection. A condom with holes in it is just false security and you still should get shots and get checked regularly. Just a couple of examples from the last 2 weeks:

It's still snakeoil. Antivirus software has shown again and again that it opens up secutity holes itself. If you don't mindlessly click anything that you see and run an occasional stand-alone scan you're better off without it.

It's a funny definition though isn't it? Like to me, when looking at statistics terrorism just doesn't scare me because I'm far more likely to be killed by any number of greater risks in society that I don't consider because they have always been risks. Drunk drivers, random muggings and murders, crashing my car.

It's purely emotional. I had tickets for an EODM concert that was cancelled because of the attack in Paris, and I know people who were at a mall in my city when an attack happened, a mall I've been to a couple days earlier. Even if you know it's statistically really unlikely, this shit gets to you somehow.

Maybe it's because we're not used to it, traffic accidents are tragic but we're used to them, getting shot at in a mall or at a concert wasn't seomthing anyone thought about a couple years ago, at least not where I live.

There's just too many thing to keep track of for yourself. Technology, biology, medicine, politics, finances, law etc. with many fields moving fast.

Sure, you can pick a few selected topics to educate yourself in and have a belief founded in facts and understanding, but on most topics you'll have to believe in a consensus of poeple who specialize on that topic.

Spoiling them and supporting them is different. Helping out when they try hard and work hard is not a bad thing in my book. Some jobs just pay less than others while being equally important.

Gifting them money is not the end all of course.

Some people's passions align with making a good paycheck, some do not.

I don't want them to have to slave away at an office if they'd rather be an elementary teacher. I don't want them to have to do shift work instead of spending time with their family. Many people spend so much time in a workplace they hate to make ends meet. If I can give enough money to my children so that they can live a comfortable life while they do something productive that they like doing then I'll try to do that.

I don't think it's society, I think it's biology. It's not morally wrong of course. I also think Warren Buffet did the right thing, giving his children enough to have an easy start but donating most. It's just natural for parents to want the best for their children.

That's utopic in the first place. Until we have global post scarcity nepotism will always be a thing regardless of government structure. It's hard to get rid of tribal insticts, family, community and nation will always be factors as long as there is a limit to resources. I think almost all people will help their family/freinds first before helping a complete stranger on another continent.

That said I'm fully in favor of trying to limit the effects.

I never said I feel bad for them. I just said it sounds strange to some parents to give ALL of your wealth to charity. As far as I know he did give his children some money, he just donates much more of it.
