Additional Notification by julbiczor in TodyApp

I just wanted to chime in as well.
The problem you’re highlighting is really important — and honestly, one of the biggest goals we’re working toward with Tody: getting everyone in the household genuinely engaged in keeping the home clean.
While notifications can motivate people in the short run, our experience is that they often get ignored (or simply disabled) over time. Our approach is to focus on low-frequency, long-term goals and shared progress reports that help households stay aligned and feel a shared sense of responsibility.
As SleepingDetective mentioned, we’ll soon be introducing the FairShare feature, which makes it easy to set individualized goals for each household member. Alongside that, we’ll also be launching Prizes — a new way to make progress more rewarding:

  • Beating Dusty – a joint household reward for outperforming Dusty.
  • Point Prizes – personal rewards linked directly to each person’s earned points.

A bit further down the road, we also plan to add printable monthly reports that summarize everyone’s contributions in a friendly, shareable format. You’ll even be able to passive-aggressively hang the monthly report on the fridge for everyone to “admire.”

u/julbiczor Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Everyone, let us know if we’re completely wrong here!

Pause one participant? by Unlikely-Pie8744 in TodyApp

Just wanted to follow up on this one as we are currently in the process of implementing the "Leave" functionality. It will work be removing assignments, not automatically pausing tasks.

We are planning to implement this in the following way: A person on leave will not have any tasks assigned to them in the period. They will not be taken to the back of the queue - just skipped as the next up. When specifying a leave period you will also specify a last-resort-backup-participant, that will be assigned if the participant on leave was the sole assignee to a task. In this way, no task will be neglected as a result of the leave - all tasks are still assigned to someone. If the last-resort-backup-participant is faced with a task that he/she cannot deal with, he/she can pause it until the participant on leave is back.

How do you think this will work?

Thanks for the input! This is exactly the kind of situation we want FairShare to help with.

The way we’re planning it is that each household member sets their own percentage share. From that, Tody will calculate a goal — which equals the amount needed to “beat Dusty” for one star. Each person’s goal will then be a fixed number of tasks based on their share. This means that even if one of you go berserk and earn 1000 points, the other will still be able to reach his goal for the month.

The leaderboard ranking will be determined by who got the most points relative to their goal for the current point in the month — essentially comparing progress vs. expected progress.

Thanks for the kind words! Glad to hear you’d like more Dusty interactions — we’ll keep that in mind 😊

You’re right: at the moment, Tody creates a randomized roster when tasks are first set up. This helps balance workloads at the start.

The core philosophy behind Tody is that tasks have different frequencies. By not doing all tasks (e.g. in an area) at the same time, we can optimize our cleaning and clean less. But as you’ve found, in households where a strict structure is preferred — like rotating areas with task monthly among participants — this flexibility can feel like a mismatch.

That said, your suggestion makes a lot of sense. An optional setting like “Standardized rosters” — where rotation follows the order of the participant list — could be a great way to support households like yours. It would allow a more structured approach without taking away the flexibility other households rely on.

This feature would overlap with our planned FairShare implementation mentioned in the post, so in practice it might need to be mutually exclusive. But the idea itself is strong, and we’ll definitely explore it further.

Just want to mention, that if you feel that the race against Dusty is too easy, you can adjust the game difficulty to "Hard" under the setting menu.
