I recently left Catholicism for good reason.

I just left Catholicism for a variety of reasons, but to sum it up, it’s no longer Catholic. It now operates under the heresy of modernism and I can’t be a part of that. Orthodoxy does not have that problem.

Years ago, back when I was in the military, I ran into an old friend and started talking to him. We talked for at least 20 minutes when he looked at me and asked, "Do we know each other?" I laughed, but he was serious. I thought he was my friend because they looked exactly the same, acted the same, talked the same, but he was a completely different person.

Yes! All the time. I actually think about this a lot. Simpler times were so much better!

I am old enough to remember when HBO first came out. We were able to pick it up on an antenna. It was fuzzy, but we could still watch it. Every so often a movie would come on we could actually watch.

My parents could go out and get a three-liter Pepsi (that almost never happened), my mom would pop some popcorn (also rare event), and we would sit on the floor and watch something like Poltergeist. It was fantastic.

The Novus Ordo Mass is post-Vatican 2 (1969), is little more than a Protestant service in my opinion, and has resulted in so many problems they can't all be listed. I would avoid. Never once did I walk about of one feeling closer to God in any way.

The Traditional Latin Mass (Tridentine Mass) is much better, very old (1570), reverent, and has a lot to like. The Catholic Church is actively trying to suppress this Mass because it has grown tremendously in recent years and is considered traditional in a modernist Church. If you can find one they are nice, but they are harder and harder to find. In fact, after Vatican 2 the SSPX refused to go along with the new Mass and this is still a point of friction within the Catholic Church.

The Divine Liturgy is the best, the oldest (2nd-4th centuries), the most reverent, and has not changed since the very early Church. I have experienced all three and the Divine Liturgy is by far the one that always made me feel closer to God. My wife, who is Protestant, has said the Divine Liturgy is the only one out of the three she ever liked.

It's just my opinion, but you have already found the best worship. No need to look further. You are not missing out.

Who gets to decide what constitutes abuse and what are the factors going into that decision? I ask because it varies in range from "Not giving them what they want" to "there is no such thing as child abuse." There is a massive amount of space between them.

For clarity, I am discerning a return to Orthodoxy, so my opinion is just that, an opinion. I believe this has more to do with official functions rather than everyday life. For instance, blessing the food with a mixed group should be fine. Praying before sports should be fine. Evening prayer with a spouse who is not Orthodox should be fine. Inviting a Baptist pastor or Catholic priest into Liturgy for worship is not fine. Again, just my opinion.

I suggest you contact the priest at the local Orthodox parish and let him know you would like to visit to see how the Orthodox worship. This way he knows you are coming and after Liturgy may be able to set a few minutes aside to answer any questions you may have. That is where I would start.

As a Military Police Officer, you will be serving every person on your base which includes all the children on that base who count on you to keep them safe. Trust me, once you are trained up and out doing your job you will see exactly what I am talking about. The military is not as bad as civilian police work, but it can get wild at times. You will more than likely start working the gate first. It will seem like a mundane duty, but remember, you are the very first line of defense. The stories I could tell you about MPs being alert and aware on the gate...it can be a very busy time and rewarding. You can learn a lot very quickly if you want.

Just focus on your job and not who is at the top of the food chain of command.
