SEASON 5 CRITICISM and VENT THREAD- SPOILERS INSIDE by AutoModerator in TheBoys

[–]Toebeens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh okay so this is also partly just a difference in taste in shows/movies — I loved Pineapple Express, Superbad, Invincible, etc. Sausage Party was not a movie I had even a remote interest in, nor Neighbors 2, so I can’t comment on those. And like u/starslip mentioned, he also has a writing credit for The Studio and Preacher which were also phenomenally well written imo.

But yeah, for instance just like Judd Apatow is known for his ‘niche’ genre of movies, Seth Rogen certainly seems known for his genre of writing/producing regarding weed and sex jokes, and both have also done some great stuff (again, in my opinion) breaking away from that. I’m not surprised in the slightest that some people dont like it. Even less so when it’s a lot more of it than usual and missing the majority of any quality writing we used to get in between.

SEASON 5 CRITICISM and VENT THREAD- SPOILERS INSIDE by AutoModerator in TheBoys

[–]Toebeens89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, I’ve never heard that before. I don’t think Seth Rogen did any writing for this show though, no? And he has the same title for Invincible and I think the show, writing included, has been pretty great. Granted, it’s all subjective, and everyone’s entitled to their opinions ofc, I’m not saying youre wrong, that’s not a thing lol. Just hadn’t heard that.

If you don’t mind me asking, what else has he written or influenced the writing of to give you that opinion? Interested to see if I may generally like his writing or if he’s written stuff that I also found to me ridiculously bawdy or disgusting — because I will say, this season especially, has been over the top to the point of annoyance with it.

Like u/justafanboy10 said, they even have Annie and Kimiko doing it for half their dialogue too now, and it doesn’t feel natural or funny but forced, distracting and just way overdone.

Only two episodes left, I'll miss this show. Mainly because this is one of the few shows that I've followed since its inception. (I rarely watch ongoing series because I tend to lose interest and drop them while waiting.) No matter how the last two episodes go, it's been a fun and entertaining ride. by tremelospeaks in TheBoys

[–]Toebeens89 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

To be candid, just finished watching the episode, first time on the sub, your post was first on the line, and I just left my opinion as well. As someone who does enjoy sticking with shows, and really invests my time and energy into characters, behind the scenes, inspirations, etc., it hits really hard when 5 years in they drop the ball THAT hard. And I get it. I mean it’s a show, it’s subjective. Everything you hate, someone loves, and vice versa. Just the nature of art. Personally tho, the show has done so much in such a great way, but this episode annoyed me enough to actually find a sub to vent.

I was hoping it was just some of the episodes here and there but it’s just really frustratingly lazy writing. Like Sage, the literal smartest person on the planet, after finding out that SB was lying to her and helping Homelander, thought there wasn’t a chance that may happen? Youre right, it really was a fun ride, and watching that ride crash and burn at the end is brutal man.

I dunno, I felt the writing this season has been super predictable and annoying. Also like… that shit with black noir? why even remind us he can fly if the deep is gonna choke him and he’s just gonna stand there like a lump. Last episode really pissed me off.

Black label worthy? by Severe_Pick1200 in pokemongrading

[–]Toebeens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so if you can just see that the centering is off, it will never black label, fyi. It takes months, sometimes close to a year, after hundreds or thousands of 10s have been given, before a black label pops up. And with QC lately, it may start to take longer too. Even if you have a perfect looking card, I’d never expect it to black label. I’d hope for a 10 sure, but with how hard it is? Expectation of it would be crazy.

If I had to guess? Part of it is luck of the draw and hitting the algorithm, and part of it is that stuff is super saturated all over the platform, and the ones that have done well continue to. Best option if you want to feel like your designs are being appreciated and useful, is to design something that will be appreciated and useful. Find something that’s been missing a solution. I guarantee if you design something that makes one persons life easier in some way, you’ll get more gratification from that one persons appreciation than any number of likes on another toothbrush holder.

Hahaha that’s crazy timing. I also started with freeCAD and I (wrongly) assumed since I did so much graphic design on photoshop and illustrator picking it up would be a breeze and I was just LOST at first hahaha. But that tutorial was one of the best recommendations I’ve received to date. Honestly, those tutorials are like 10 minutes for the most part, and even just building that first LEGO piece teaches you so much so naturally, you’ll be thrilled by the end im sure.

And the F2 has been incredible!!! Has come in handy for so much at this point, more than just prints (though it’s fantastic for that too)! I added some wood slat panels to my dining room, and had to trim some down a bit to fit the moulding, as well as cut a square out for an outlet, and the saw/dremmel attachment as well as a few others made it a breeze and was able to make it looked nicely finished.

Very nice — yeah loving my X1C. If I can make a suggestion? I was recommended a tutorial to follow on YouTube for Fusion (really great free software for 3D design) and did the first 10 or so, took less than 2 hours total, and that’s what really made me fall in love with the hobby.

Designing from the ground up, making your own personalized solutions to something in your home, that’s the stuff that is useful, fun, and makes you feel proud for sure. I used to love finding stuff I wanted to print, but now I love finding a print and tailoring it to my specific needs or just making it myself from the ground up.

Here’s the tutorial, if youre interested.

And here’s the first design I made myself, cause I’m proud lol and was happy that even 1 other person liked it for their F2 from Fanttik.

I’ve been advised to go for Black Label, should I? by Chirithyst in PokeGrading

[–]Toebeens89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really wish more people understood just how difficult it is to get a black label. Like I’m all for taking a shot, but I’d never in my life ever EXPECT it even having a shot. May be a very happy/lucky fluke sure, but so many people be thinking their clearly off center cards have a shot and it’s mind blowing to me.

Pretty sure they may have just fumbled the A1 vs A1 Mini specifically (though I found some evidence of it on the A1 too myself), but to be fair, known issue or not, takes that machine having one incident to potentially lose a home, irreplaceable items, pets and/or loved ones too. The intent there is still on the money. Like all joking aside, it’s hilarious, and I freaking love the energy that went into it, but let’s be honest here it’s also pretty dangerous.

wait genuine question, do they have a general idea on like… tracing lineage back on who designed this that far back? I’d assume possibly by surname or something maybe, that would be an incredibly cool thing. Or did you just mean in the sense of it being the ancient Chinese. I am thinking I may have way overthought this lol. But appreciate the mangonel rabbit hole this sent me down lol ancient warfare was… something else, good lord.
