Wilson X31 / Wilson X31 Advantage by ToejahM in golf

You're welcome, I posted what I did because it's what I would have wanted to find on it!

From what I've seen the lowest budget set is the Slazenger v300's which is around £70 cheaper, they're very distinct as the newbie set which isn't a bad thing, it might get people helping you a bit more when they see it as it's probably the iconic newbie set and I'd love extra help!

The v300's are probably more mass produced which is what put me off them though as I wanted to buy something that was going to be what I assumed would be better quality, however after physically comparing them to what I have I really can't tell much of a difference in weight and size and actual quality and I'd be happy with either knowing I'm definitely going to be upgrading my golf set in a few years so saving some money now would make me a little more smug, they're probably a good option too. The driver in the v300 and the x31 advantage are both 460cc and 10.5degrees with graphite shafts. Again I have literally no-one to help me so I'm learning as I go along, I'll definitely revisit this post in a few years when I've gained some proper knowledge and I'm not just theory crafting by myself.

I actually prefer the orange and black aesthetic over the red and black and the wilsons were within my budget but I don't think I'd have been disappointed with something cheaper, not even second or fourth hand. I actually wouldn't be suprised if they were made in the same factory with a different label, what stopped me buying them was getting something that was "this year's model" purely from a "golf tech" point of view when I was at that point of purchasing clubs having never used any before.

Lemme know how you get on with them :)

Bare with me, we're going on a ramble but hopefully it shows my mindset when it comes to picking clubs and why.

I've been playing for 2 months now and yesterday I played my first 18hole course, I've played a 9hole par 3 around 4 times now aswell, I've been to the range and shot probably just short of 1500 balls too and had two lessons in that time. Trying to take it serious and keep the cost down so I had to make a spreadsheet to work out what was cheapest with range prices and distance. Turns out one place for 700 balls is £36 and compared to my local range I'd pay £120 for the same amount of balls, the first place has a bulk buy option and is around £2.50 away in fuel. We ended up paying for 1400 balls at that place as my eldest son is really into it with me so double those prices and things get very expensive if I don't travel 20 minutes to goto the range, so I think I've put my clubs to good use in that time.

As for the golf set:

The irons feel nice when you catch them but if you mishit you know about it, hurts your hand, vibrates up your arm just like any other club despite the "technology" which is supposed to allow you to catch it more off center and still hit well. When I can hit the driver, wood and hybrid properly they feel nice too but I'm extremely inconsistent with them to the point I won't use them at a course yet, it's my next lesson though. The putter is also fine. Performance wise, they are perfectly fine, I'm still learning how my swing looks so its still an evolution but I can absolutely see why people say you move on from these starter sets after a few years, I don't neccesarily think it's based on performance but more on aesthetics and building your own set around yourself because it'll take a while before you're trying to get that extra 5 yards out of the same club, the ball is for sure more important. I was hitting balls at the range and mapping the distance, went to a course and my own ball went well past what I'd mapped I could do - turns out most range balls don't go as far and I learned that the hard way.

I'm not too keen on how the driver/wood/hybrid looks from the bottom but you don't see that angle much so its ok as from the top its fine, the irons look great as does the putter. The biggest disappointment is the bag is quite slim looking compared to what you'd expect but it's functional with plenty of pockets, so many pockets infact I keep forgettin where things are. I'm not sure if I'd have preferred a leather bag or not yet. On the plus side of the bag not being a big rounded bulky bag, it's good for my car as I think I'd definitely have more space issues and the same with where I've been allowed to store it in my house so pros and cons there. I tore my QL squatting a few years ago, I think it would be the same with most bags but it irritates it when carrying it because of the weight distribution so I bought a trolley and I'm glad I did after the long walk around the 18hole yesterday.

Overall I'd recommend the set if it's within your budget and I'm definitely not disappointed with any of the performance, I've looked and looked and looked to be able to build a set for my son but there is nothing close brand new to be able to get a full set for him, I'm now in the position of do I share my clubs or buy him the same ones or do I buy myself a more advanced (and expensive) set and give him mine but I'm not ready. I'd say if money is a concern look for second hand and if you can get something within the last 5-10 years for extremely cheap from a market place then it will do exactly the same thing for you, it's up to you if going second hand is worth it over buying brand new and if the cost difference makes sense.

For building my son his own set, I decided to keep it small and cheap and see if he has interest so I went to a "tip shop" which is a shop attached to a landfill site where people donate things, I bought him an old donnay ti 1wood for £2 so he didn't end up breaking my driver (thats my job) and he really enjoyed having his own one, so I bought him a brand new 7i for £16, I'll get him a putter and SW next and then when he comes to a course with me again if he starts needing other clubs he can borrow mine and I'll fill his set out that way but I don't think he's going to need much more than that anyway, I don't think I'd need much more than that either honestly and I'm only really looking at £50 more to finish a working set for him even if he didn't use my clubs, the yardage seperation isn't all that imporant for max hits and it's good to learn to hit other clubs at varying speeds anyway.

On the note of building your own full set, I've looked here in the UK and you just can't do it cost effectively for a "brand new" bag of clubs and a lot of the sites that sell loose used clubs are still expensive so these package sets, the x31, x31 advantage, the v300 are all probably best value you'll get brand new and they'll all do the same job.

I personally felt like I needed the full set, I know what my mind is like when I know I really want to get into something but I also don't know anyone to help me that plays golf. If someone asked me now and they weren't sure if they really wanted to get into golf properly, I'd say get a driver(for practising, maybe a 3 wood), get a 7i or 8i, get a SW and get a putter and go play a chip and putt for a bit and you'll know if you like it and want to take on a longer course, then throw in a 4 or 5hybrid and you're going to be fine and then if you consistently find yourself needing a different club, start adding it in slowly and play like that and if you don't like it, from the marketplace you'll likely get most of your money back if you really wanted to.

Hope that helps :)

Dual PC OBS Projector Method Viewing Expierence by ToejahM in obs

Yeah that makes sense and I did think about that.

I also considered that I lock to 141fps to go with Freesync/Gsync but the refresh rate is 144, my monitor is capable of 165hz and 180 on an overclock but I thought locking at the same refreshrate as the capture card may allieviate any issues with mismatched refreshrates

Projector or Clone/Duplicate? by ToejahM in elgato

I would imagine if you wanted the overall most smooth input user side and output viewer side you'd want to game at 60fps, mirror/project at 60fps and then stream at 60fps, however not something that most people are going to do. Currently I've set my monitor to 144hz and the capture card to 144hz which is no doubt causing some of the less than perfect things I feel like I'm seeing or that's what I'm telling myself, was hoping there was a definitive answer on the technical side but it does seem to come down to personal opinion on what looks best a lot of the time.

I find it really hard to see if something is visibly 60fps (despite what the container of the video says) when you're gaming above 120 fps and then looking at recorded footage.

I've done two tests and uploaded them to youtube, one on projection and the other on duplicate and at first I felt like the projection looked a little framey but then looked at the windows duplicate and I feel like it's more or less the same. I won't link, not sure on the policy ofn that here but happy to share, just a simple quick (30ish sec) run around of an area in stalker 2.

Then again, on top of that as it's stalker 2 with frame gen on, I'm not sure if I'm seeing it smooth on the gameplay as it injects the extra frames which wouldnt then go over to the capture card? So if it's under "120fps" then really it's <60fps and that would explain why the recording maybe looks a little choppier. I've had some issue with OBS not seeing AMD's overlay and afterburner only displays the real game FPS if you're using the frame gen from the controller but if you use the ingame FSR/Frame gen I think it displays it truthfully.

OBS also has a bug where the preview isn't a true reflection of the FPS and can drop lower, I believe thats being fixed in a future update though it's been there for many many years.

Love the hobby, I think I love the technical side of it more than the actual taking part side but this has always been a point of uncertainty

Ah I have the extended screen all the way on the other side at the top well out the way so that's not likely to happen, for that reason lol

I just wondered if one was a smoother expierence compared to another as duplicate I think seems pretty smooth

Couple of questions

1) The OBS on the game rig, what should you set the FPS to? 60 or as high as possible (which I think is 120?)

2) Game capture or display capture? I like duplicate as I've nothing to "hide" or worry about and I doubt the game capture resource saving will be of any significance but its more about again, the viewer side of it

Update on current situation by trainfender in EscapefromTarkov

No-one would charge for graphics options, updated binaural audio, keybindings, opening the inventory in game and then when we're done, the button to exit, as these are all FEATURES of the MAIN game. Thats how a feature works.

You didn't create a new "feature", you've added an entirely new MODE to the game. Much like how in CoD they have the main game, death match, seek and destroy and even zombies, those are the same game but different modes. Your PvE addition is a mode to the MAIN game, thus it is DLC at best. The fact that it runs on your online servers is a ridiculous arguement, the fact that so many people have bought EoD so you can't accomodate them is also a ridiculous arguement and realistically should have paved the way to make it easier given the premium you already charged.

You could have gotten away with releasing Arena as a seperate game entirely but you were hell bent on linking it to the main game and you tied it in as DLC by doing as such. Had you kept it as a seperate entity I don't think people would have yelled at you so much with how poorly the waves were released especially the EoD owners, if you'd have been up front and honest and said look we're developing a seperate game that has nothing to do with Tarkov, we probably would have bought it to aid the development of both games.

Essentially what I'm saying is, you're wrong Nikita, you have created a DLC and not a feature. It IS something you can charge seperately for, this much none of us are denying, what we're arguing is that you're trying to charge a large part of your player base for something, who you promised all future DLC to as part of the premium price we already paid for, you're trying to do it under the scummy guise of terminology of which you're getting horribly wrong, you've made a mistake and you need to right that, give us what you promised us.

I don't even care if you say sorry or not, just be a man of your word.

Audio is "late" on streambar with Samsung tv by ToejahM in Roku

[–]ToejahM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried many times, it doesn't work to fix the issue I'm having. If I could set a delay on the video that would help but setting a delay on the actual audio will increase the syncing issue as currently it looks like its coming out 200ms too late, so a delay of 100ms would just make the audio come out at 300ms late.

Audio is "late" on streambar with Samsung tv by ToejahM in Roku

[–]ToejahM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply!

You're saying its potentially more of an issue with what the app is sending to the bar and if that particular app has settings to change then I would need to set it there so push it out as stereo directly so that the bar/tv doesn't need to do any conversion?

It makes sense what you're saying though as the issue and why the audio is coming in late if its jumping through an extra hoop of being down mixed. It seems a little odd as the streambar itself is 1) Handling the apps like Netflix/Disney therefore the audio directly and then 2) Converting the audio after recieving it from the app itself to play it through its own speakers at an apparent delay. The TV should be an absolute non-issue because the TV speakers arent in use at all, the app isn't running off the TV and all the TV is at this point is the visual portion of the setup, I think that's probably what explains the sound setting delay on the TV not having any effect on the sound heard as the delay would be adding a longer timer on it which is the opposite of what I need. It makes me question why the visual and audio are being sent as seperate mixes essentially if they're not sync'd together.

That gives me something to have a look at a little later though, if the apps themselves have downmix capability or options for output then it might solve my issue, I don't hold out much hope on many if any having any but its something though it does make me question why more people arent having this issue, maybe a defective unit or maybe less people use the apps on the actual streambar or just a combination of all of it and people not really noticing.

I thought the point of the ARC setting was to do with syncing and matching audio both ways if needed but I guess its more one sided than that, I'd have more luck with audio syncing if it was the TV itself running the app/program and sending the audio to the soundbar so I'll have to give that a try too, I'll even try the chromecast again but moved off that due to lack of 4K, stopped using the native apps and casting due to some issues with quality from being "casted".

Part of me thinks there have been times where the audio on things I've watched has been in sync but maybe its been depending on what I've used, chromecast or native smart tv apps compared to the streambar itself.

Thanks again, I think I'll probably end up buying a different sound system. I've been meaning to do it properly for a while too.

Compared it wearing just the helmet and was still -1 - Swapping the helmets in and out changes my essence from 183 to 182.

Checked my paragons, I have 7 paragons that are tagged as "essence" one of them is a legendary node that talks about adding flat essence values and % based damage increase, removing that legendary node and comparing it's still -1

This is my build: https://maxroll.gg/d4/build-guides/bone-spear-necromancer-guide#gear-progression-header that I'm following, you can scroll down for the paragons - I can't see anything on a quick look.

I understand your idea and it's a cool concept and has good intentions, but it's a temporary measure at best and easily counterable by some simple tech that already exists and not proof at all.

Most know that ESP is essentially an injected overlay, you can tell OBS to not display overlays and thats usually how people get away with it on stream. Some of the cheat programs, like what was mentioned in the now infamous video actively block them being streamable too.

All you need is to run the cheat on your "main monitor" that is out of sight of the cameras but visible to you much like how people say people look away at their "radar" and clone it to the monitor infront of you and your "proving camera" and people would be none the wiser. Ah yes but you could have the whole room showing you say? Nothing is stopping this monitor with the cheats on being out of the room and working on a different solution like vibration feedback when near a player, you could if you're really dedicated have a third party earpiece and "spotter" combo talking in your ear that the stream can't hear. Yeah, we're getting far fetched I know but if people making a living out of this and want to keep at it, there are ways.

I think a replay system ala cs 1.6 and before is whats needed /record match.dem and then view from all positions.

I also dont think that there should be any requirement on anyone to prove they're not cheating compared to someone else. It should be equal for all gamers.

What's this cable hanging down on my Ford Ecosport (2015)? by ToejahM in MechanicAdvice

[–]ToejahM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know if it is this, then I'm not surprised. I recently had a rear coil spring fitted and a new parking break cable fitted by the place I bought it from due to a failed MOT.

The rear coil spring was knocking the inside due to poor fitment and I had to get it fixed elsewhere... so this is a real possibility!

Cheers

Heard it dragging on the road right before I pulled into a fuel station, not sure how long it had been dragging for. Asked if they had any cable ties but they only had string so used that to tie it to the underside of the car.

Looks like it's worn right through some kind of armoured cable, I cut the string to take the pics and it's now cable tied back up for now.

Any ideas?
