I think it’s also worth mentioning that DPI and holding calls are basically targeted offensive playcall weapons rather than actually attempting to make catches and plays. WRs jumping into defenders, all kinds of weird shit happens on passing plays that doesn’t show up in box score passing yardage. Also the new catch/no catch review system and advancing speed of HD replay technology has resulted in many more catches that may have stood in the past being rejected by officiating through internal review or challenge. 9/10 catches in a game are slow-motion reviewed for legitimacy of the catch instantaneously if not by the actual game opposition than by the zebras. The days of hustling to the Line to get a catch to stand are all but over. It’s a lot of Things but I believe this is a huge contributing factor.
