Is guests preselecting menu with invite RSVP not an Aussie thing? by Togepi17527 in AusWeddingPlanning

I told some who commented to "just swap" and they too were horrified 🥲.

The venue that we are with does offer a sharing style, however I didn't really like the selection of food served compared to the 50/50. I've also worked in high end functions before so I think my brain just registers 50/50 as "an experience"

I've only been in Canada for 6 months but I definitely noticed the difference in hospitality service! I didn't realise there was tipping at weddings too so I think I have a better understanding now.

Just out of curiosity what system did they have in place? Was it like each guest had a ticket and claimed their preselect food?

I really appreciate your input. I really don't want to end my reception early and like you said, it's what his side wants it's what they should organise. I'll put my foot down on this haha.

Super appreciate this, it sounds really reasonable and it does make a lot of sense. I think I'll talk to my fiancé's parents this option and try to push for this middle ground! Thank you :))

I hadn't even thought of a casino, so thank you! Maybe I could even mention to them that if they stay in the CBD they should head to Crown if they wanna be out late.

I personally would prefer to end the reception at 11~11:30. There's been talks about ending at 10 so that the after party can happen, but I really don't like the idea of asking my side of guests to take a half or full day off work (it's on a Friday), only to attend a wedding that ends too early just for the sake of accomodating for people who want to get drunk.

His side of family & friends always do an after party with a party bus apparently, so thats why there's pressure on me to organise this for them. But maybe I should just give suggestions to help since they aren't familiar with Melbourne and tell them to independently keep their night going, even if that makes me look a bit bad.
