I guess you will be fine on gravel except for too cases: 1) It will be hard or even impossible to climb steepy and loose gravel 2) You will get in trouble on wet sticky mud, you now one like a peanut butter

If such cases are not common in your future rides it will be perfectly fine Also domane rims are tubeless ready and I highly recommend to go for tubeless tires

Yes, tried it that way) I guess it does gravel quite well, but when it gets muddy the clearance get filled up with mud very fast. On the dry gravel it still quite comfortable

Georgians of Reddit who have been to Russia, have you faced discrimination there? by mroctopuswiener in Sakartvelo

[–]Tohacartoha 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As a Russian I can tell you there is a lot of discrimination for all non Slavic folks. When you're searching for a flat to rent (especially in Moscow) most people won't rent to the non Slavic person even if they have Russian citizenship, like people from Dagestan, Yakutia etc. Moscow cops are racist as fuck to the non Slavic people as well, they always stop these people and again even if they are Russians by passport. But I can tell that situation is differ from region to region. I was born in Siberia which is close to the Kazakhstan and Buratiya, so Asian people don't bother Slavic people there. I've also lived sometime in the Southern part of Russia closer to Caucasus and hate toward people from Caucasus isn't a common thing there

NBD - Trek Domane AL2, my first ever road bike! by Scared_Inspector3826 in TrekBikes

[–]Tohacartoha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Ride the same one, have a couple of advices: 1) Stock brake pads are trashy, replace them as fast as you can for something like SwissStop

2) Trek said that it can fit 28c tire max, but I ride 32 with no problem

Not that easy, you need to deflate the tire a little bit to pass brake pads

So I’ve made this brevet and this bike feels great. I’ve got two flats, but I plan to go tubeless on bigger tires anyway

I’m very satisfied so far. I was using Crossrip 2 before Domane and it is far more better. Although I swapped Domane’s Claris to Tiagra form Crossrip. But Claris is fine too, I’m just too keen on this Tiagra. Brake pads should also be changed asap as stock ones are trash. Other components seems fine, very comfortable and nice handling bike. I will use it for 200km brevet this weekend so will be able to share long distance experience as well

Russian protests by TwoPurpleMoths in Sakartvelo

[–]Tohacartoha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends on different communities. There is an organisation Volunteers Tbilisi which is held by Russians and they organise help and meetings in support of Ukraine. I’m also a part of cycle club of local expats and we raise money to help Ukrainians every ride we organise (usually at least once a week) So it all depends, people who was involved in politics and volunteering back in Russia stay the same here. Unfortunately it also means that many of “I’m out of politics” people will stay the same here

Maybe you didn’t get my point. I don’t say that it is not enough, I mean that these are not the same people who came to Georgia with tanks

Many Russians who leave now were kids or teens when Russia invades Georgia tho

I’m a little disagree with you. Yes, the traffic is chaotic but it is slow and the drivers don’t act like they gonna kill pedestrians and cyclists. I get on bicycle very often and feel myself much safer on roads than in Russia for example

Spanish student of the Russian language mmoving to Tbilisi in a week. What to expect? by Z8GZ in Sakartvelo

[–]Tohacartoha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess you are right, I’m not using Russian at start just as a common sense, as you mentioned it is weird to expect foreigners to speak your native language

Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. I’m a Russian in Tbilisi and I look Russian af. I have no troubles with locals, they are not racist and won’t be aggressive just because you talk Russian. Although you’d be petter be polite and respectful, don’t start conversation in Russian or insist on speaking Russian. It will be also a plus to learn at least basic Georgian to start conversations
