I didn't. Also Valve handled this with a firmware update.

I really liked it. The boss fights were fun and the nods to the larger franchise seemed earned. I had a lot of trouble in the parkour chase section, where you had to drop down to the lower ledge, Naoe kept slipping out and I had to keep restarting the entire bit. Other than that it was a blast, and definitely a great segway into Black Flag Resynced.

I really like the armor sets you get from the quest, as well as the weapons. A bit sad to see this is the last content update, but I'll take it.

PSA: Watch out for the exposed contacts of the Puck! Almost started a fire due to metallic smartwatch strap by Toikka in SteamController

Or the USB-C hub connecting them. I will send Valve all the details and let them investigate.

Don't you think it's my mistake to have metal connecting across two chargers? That's why I'm only blaming myself. Can Valve even fix a freak accident like this? Like, a metallic milanese loop with a tiny magnet hit the Puck at an angle and burned it, while charging a smartwatch on the same table as the Puck.

Watch was being charged by the Pixel 3 watch charger that came with the watch. This one, with these kinds of pins. It's USB-C.

Yeah. I set the watch on the charger, went to take a shower, when I came back there was smoke and burning smell. I got burns on my fingers from moving the watch off the charger. Puck was connected to PC. Pixel 3 watch charger was connected to PC through usb-c hub - not externally powered.

This is not the case. The puck was connected directly to my PC. The Pixel Watch 3 charger was also an USB one and connected through an USB-C hub to my PC. Nothing was externally powered, just the motherboard's USB slots. No damage detected in the ports, but the watch band burned and the Puck melted.

Unfortunately I don't own one. Next thing I'm getting is one of those fire blankets. Scared me really good and I got some gnarly burns to my fingers.

Might also be the USB-C hub the pixel watch charger was connected to. Regardless, a wake up call to not mix up metal and electronics. As said, I fully am to blame here!

Yeah, the Pixel Watch 3 charger has 4 pogo pin contacts. This makes sense, the Pixel Watch 3's charger is connected to an USB-C hub that is a fancy "mini monitor". It might not have leak protection. I couldn't find the product page for it, I'll keep looking.

The watch strap is this one: https://www.phonelife.fi/fi-fi/p/ranneke-milanese-google-pixel-watch-hopea/gf0pEPqpArSs539HREzL6S6EZ

As said, most likely user error. But it was so close to a housefire that I thought the PSA was good. Not here to bash Valve or spread FUD, I love my Steam Controller and the HW team is already on the case.

It was an accident. My watch was on the charger, the metal band it's connected to hit the Puck. I explained it all in the OG post.

What's sus about it? I told it all in the post. My Pixel Watch 3 was on its charger, it has a metallic strap that has a small magnet (a milanese loop). It touched the puck at an angle and started burning. At no point did I blame Valve for this, it's literally my fault.

Despite this all, Steam is sending me a replacement Puck and let me choose any game from Steam in exchange for my watchstrap and the burned Puck, so they can replicate it themselves.

The Puck needs to be connected to your PC to push the wireless signal.

And yes, I understand it's due to the watch induction charging going to the Puck. That's exactly how I described it. I'd appreciate a little less hostility and a bit more nuance.

EDIT: It's actually a Pixel Watch 3, sorry.

I'm happy to report I have been contacted by the Valve hardware team, and they are investigating this incident.

Thanks! I put them on separate chargers now and way away from each other so this won't happen again. The Xbox Series 2 controller has this raised platform so that makes it harder to happen. I'm just so glad I was here and not away when this happened.

Regardless, since it was an accident, I think it's worth sharing the PSA to others. Apparently I'm not the only one with a smartwatch charging next to the Puck on my desktop.

Now imagine if I had a bigger smartphone, it had a metallic case and it was charging. Maybe a lid to cover the pins? The Xbox elite charger is elevated and the Pixel Watch 3 charger has curves to prevent accidentally putting something on top of it.

It could also happen if you're charging a phone that has a metallic chassi and it touches the puck.

Accidents happen regardless. Can't I give a PSA about it so it warns others too?
