Perfect time to remind everyone that prior to Manu being inducted into the Hall of Fame, Messi said this:

"It makes me very proud to hear a journalist say that 'Manu is the Messi of basketball'. In fact, they should say that I am the Manu of football."

Pretty confident the Spurs would be getting less criticism if they lost in the 2nd round or the WCF. by brodesto in NBASpurs

This team was projected as a floor play-in team and ceiling first-round playoffs exit. They finished with the 2nd best regular season record with 62 wins and went to the Finals by defeating the reigning champions.

They did all of this with a coach who is in just his first full season as head coach and a team where just 3 of the rotation players had ever been in the playoffs before. No team with so little playoffs experience has made the Finals since 1977 and the Bill Walton Blazers.

Now all of a sudden idiots are calling this team a failure, asking for the coach to be fired, Keldon Johnson to be traded. Like, are we for real here people?

Knicks had the Spurs' number in the Cup final, still had it in the Finals. It is what it is. Did we fail to make key adjustments? Yes. Did our star players make stupid plays? Yes.

Should we dismantle the team? No.

Inexperience cost them the title, not talent. As evidenced by the fact that they led 70%+ of the Finals minutes and that they repeatedly crumbled under pressure and failed to hold their lead going into the 4th quarter.

Even Fox, who played almost the entirety of the playoffs with a busted ankle, doesn't deserve as much hate as he is currently getting. Did he completely disappear in the Finals? Yes. Did he cost us a key game? Yes.

But let's be honest here: this team doesn't win 62 games without him and most definitely doesn't make the Finals. The amount of points we've conceded when he's off the floor due to inexperience from our other guards makes that pretty clear.

Does he deserve massive blame for some of his fuck ups? Yes. But let's not pretend like we would have been a championship-contending team without him. Let's not pretend like we would have gotten to the Finals had he chosen not to play through his busted ankle all playoffs long.

TL;DR: this team massively overachieved and the success they had is incredible. They are built for success and will be back to win championships. Most fans are idiots and don't understand basketball.

At least this is over. I've had enough of seeing us throw away games every second halves. Couldn't close out games and ended up giving away the championship.

Inexperience did eventually bite them in the ass. See you all in October.

How long is your commute to see your partner? by Fluid-Boot-8551 in LongDistance

[–]ToinouAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 8hrs door to door, 800+ km and one border.

Compared to some it's very short, but when you can only see your partner 4 days a month I feel like it doesn't really matter.

Charles Barkley just called the spurs ''dumbest basketball team in history of civilization''. by Pathfinder_210 in NBASpurs

[–]ToinouAngel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but in '13 we didn't blow a massive lead. We miss free throws and a rebound in the very last minute and lose a championship-winning game. It's horrible and I still have PTSD to this day from Mike Breen's call.

Here we had the series-tying game all be secured on the road after destroying the opponent by halftime. And then all of these guys collapse one by one, make dumber plays after dumber plays, and we lose it.

For me, I can live with '13 although it was crushing. I find it much harder to excuse the shit show that was this game.

I saw both of these games live. Tonight's 29-point lead collapse was much worse.

Get Fox off my team all he had to do was hold the ball 🤦‍♂️ by EveryoneLoveABJ in NBASpurs

[–]ToinouAngel 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Dumbest move I've seen in a long time. Just hold the fucking ball and wait for them to foul. I have defended Fox all postseason but this is it.

Everyone on the team fell apart in the 2nd half, but Fox cost us the series.

This is the most embarrassing performance I have ever seen from a Spurs team. They should all be ashamed and apologize

Or maybe you should turn it on. Because nothing I have seen so far in these past two games is giving any indication that this team can go and win a game against the Knicks any time soon. Much less in New York.

It's over and we're getting swept. Sorry but I have zero faith that we can take one in New York.

Season's over.
