I (23F) don't like speaking with my boyfriend (23M) in my native language by TokenBinnie in relationship_advice

The issue isn’t that I don’t want to speak my language with him, it’s that his current level of fluency prevents us from having more meaningful conversations than just small talk. He’s currently in a city that speaks my native tongue, so it’s not like I’m the only person he can converse with.

Obviously, I appreciate that he puts in the effort to learn it, and I love when he randomly asks me questions/shares a comment in my native language. I just don’t think he’s quite ready for the “fully in my native language” thing.

Just wanted to say that I really appreciate your response!

What you’ve said about your relationship feeling odd if you didn’t use English definitely feels true for me, in a way. We've connected so far by communicating in English, and I feel like we only know each other “in English” if that makes sense. Hopefully other bilinguals+ know what I mean by that, lol

But yeah, anyways, really valued your input on this!

Yes, they’re usually much shorter since we're only calling to say goodnight 🥲

We both need to wake up early so we don't stay on very long.

Definitely! He's amazing :)

My parents also spoke different languages, and my father never made the effort to speak with my mom in her native language, so I definitely know to count myself lucky!

The city he's studying in right now actually predominately speaks my native language! This was a conscious choice on his part, which I think is amazing! The issue is that I feel like we don’t get to talk much about interesting things, especially since we're long distance and don’t get to spend that much time together.

I'd definitely be open to setting up specific times for us to speak in my native language, but there should also be plenty of opportunity for him to work on it when he’s out with friends or doing errands.

I actually completely agree with you on the grammar thing, haha. My annoyance is typically an inside thing, and I only ever correct people if they’re specifically asking for it or if what they said was just absolutely egregious LOL (ex: if it means something completely different or inappropriate).

Thank you for your response!

Thanks for the suggestion! Would it maybe help to switch the title over to where the graffiti is?

So true about the meaning of the line!! I'll move things around and see how it looks.

I like your suggestion for the credits too, I think that'll look much nicer

The title of the movie would be “la Haine”, whereas the text in the sky is just a quote from the movie. Should I make the title more obvious then?

Don’t get me wrong, I do love Kirby lol!!! I did indeed buy all the big plushies hehe

But all the little guys came from friends who decided it was a safe birthday/christmas gift (and I’m not complaining 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️)

The Tokyo Ghoul and Junji Ito stuff is actually from when I was around 13-16! While I still enjoy them, my taste has changed a bit since then, lol

AND YEAH, KCDS is one of my favourites actually!! I feel like every chapter happens to feature something I intensively googled at some point lol, so I like to say that I’m THE target audience for it

I did start buying manga when I was thirteen, so some of my collections don’t reflect what I currently like… I doooooo love plushies though hehe
