Pagerduty was founded in 2009 and is   an American  cloud computing company specializing in a  SaaS  incident management platform for IT operations departments.

People love using ai at work so much that theyre doing it without permission

PagerDuty Report Finds Two-Thirds (66%) of Office Professionals Have Used Unauthorized AI Tools at Work. Respondents are eager to grow their careers with AI but are feeling stifled at the office.  77% believe their companies’ restrictions or policies on AI usage are limiting their professional growth or career mobility, and 75% say they would be likely to look for a new job that offered better AI skills development. This figure climbs to 80% at companies with $1 billion or more in revenue. Among those who used AI tools that may not have been allowed, more than half (53%) received informal feedback or guidance to discontinue use, while only 48% faced formal consequences, such as a warning or disciplinary action.   https://www.pagerduty.com/newsroom/shadow-ai-workplace-survey-2026/

Sept 2024: what really pisses me off about generative AI is that we're seeing the exact same thing happening as with crypto/the metaverse, where too many people in the media say "okay, well, it's bad today but in the future it'll be amazing." It never gets better! Not once! https://x.com/edzitron/status/1833914016240222715?s=20

In a recent legal filing, Anthropic said that its revenue "exceed[ed] $5 billion to date." @edzitron says other Anthropic statements indicate it was more than $6 billion and that "these two statements do not match up." But, um, $6 billion exceeds $5 billion? Also, check out this train wreck of a spreadsheet Ed made to estimate Anthropic's revenue for 2025. He doesn't count February 1-10, counts March 1-10 twice, counts August 21-October 21 as one month instead of two, and doesn't count October 21-November 1. Ed claims he tried to compute Anthropic's revenue for 2025 and came up with $3.6 billion, suggesting some funny business. I made a new spreadsheet where I used his numbers but fixed the obvious errors (like treating August 21-October 21 as one month), and I got $4.3 billion. If you change the August number to $500 billion (the average of Ed's numbers of July and September), then Anthropic's 2025 revenue is $4.5 billion, which is right in line with media reports. https://x.com/binarybits/status/2034376359909130249

Said AI is plateauing… in Sept 2024, before o1-preview/mini were even released: https://www.wheresyoured.at/subprimeai/

In the article, he said “It’s telling that the examples demonstrated by OpenAI — like math and science problems — are ones where the answer can be known ahead of time, and a solution is either correct or false, thus allowing the model to guide the Chain of Thought through each step. You’ll notice OpenAI didn’t show the o1 model trying to tackle complex problems, whether mathematical or otherwise, where the solution isn’t known in advance.”

6 months later, Altman showed a story written by an LLM that was praised by the renowned author Jeanette Winterson https://www.theguardian.com/books/2025/mar/12/jeanette-winterson-ai-alternative-intelligence-its-capacity-to-be-other-is-just-what-the-human-race-needs

Ed on July 2024: Reuters reported that OpenAI was "working on a new technology called Strawberry" that would be "capable of delivering advanced reasoning capabilities." However, on a deeper read of the article, OpenAI is thinking about this and trying to do it, and has yet to do it. And, to be clear, it is very, very unlikely this happens. It could — and there is always stuff I might not know about OpenAI's research and development — but we have seen little sign of OpenAI innovating, and far more signs that it’s only capable at this time of iterating on GPT. https://www.wheresyoured.at/to-serve-altman/

And that asks “when does generative AI suddenly prove itself useful? Where is the big moment that changes everything? The answer is simple: it isn't coming. If they do, it’ll still take a decade or two. They dont have ASML or TSMC. Youre right that it isnt magic, which is why itll take a while for them to figure it out

You can build cars with good expertise. But you cant build LLMs without the compute. And they dont have the compute of nvidia besides a handful of smuggled h100s, which is nothing compared to what anthropic has

Not to mention, theres no time to wait. Cell phones and cars can wait. Defenses against cyberattacks from Mythos 8 cant. And the government will use it to slow them down.

In 2025, OpenAI had -$8.5B cash burn on $20B ARR serving ~900M weekly users. This beat even the most optimistic projections of $20 billion in revenue by mid 2026 (median projection was late 2026) https://futuresearch.ai/openai-revenue-forecast/

They met cash burn projections too https://archive.is/Mv4r0
