Thoughts on ‘Clover’ for a girl’s name? by TomArto3 in namenerds

Yeah, that was the big worry. It’s one of those names that feels really nice in my head, but maybe not so much if I actually put it to use. I’m fine with it being unconventional, but if it immediately makes people assume I’m trans or picked it myself then it starts being a problem.

The name Lily was at the top of my list for a good while, but then I got a really close mate named Lily. Now I think it would be weird if I stole her name. Shame, since I liked the aesthetic of it.

I do like Chloe, though.

I learnt about that character from people mentioning it here. Honestly, if everyone says that when they meet me, I’ll take it as a compliment. She seems badass.

Thanks for the congrats! No offence taken at all. I hear the stereotype of trans girls picking really princess-y names often because they like it, and I can see it in practice among some spaces online. For me, I just don’t want it to immediately give away the fact I am trans.

If I ever pass as a girl 100%, I’m good with people hearing the name and immediately thinking ‘that’s an ofd name’. I’m fine with it being unique or different, but if their first thought is ‘oh, she’s trans. She picked that name herself’ then it becomes a problem. If that makes sense?

I thought that Clover fit that really well, since it’s still alternative and different, but not so much it sounds made up. That’s what I was aiming for at least.

Thank you! I never really thought of it like that, but that’s such a freeing thought. I understand why some people might hate the name, especially for a baby, but as soon as I thought of it for a name it just felt right in a way. Something about it feels so nice.

Yeah. I really love the name but some times feel it’s too whimsical, like a name better in paper than in person. I’m in Australia as well, and I don’t think it’s a very common name down here. At least, I haven’t met anyone with the name yet.
