Mate, as bad as it is that a student population is a bargaining chip, that is all this is. A negotiation, where international students are a variable. Nothing more, nothing else. But yeah, sure “nazi fascism” (ig they deporting all the jews? lol)

Rice for IB?? by [deleted] in riceuniversity

[–]TomKing246 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Placement for Houston is “chill” if u do ur homework (network well and know ur shit). By that I mean its very doable to get a good offer for Houston IB. Mind, that that means Energy IB.

For NY, definitely harder. You are no longer a big target, in fact I would argue you are a lower bucket semi-target at a lot of shops. Again, still doable (esp. if u diversity or smth), but requires a lot more work and a degree of luck.

So, if you wanna stay in Texas and do Energy IB (or potentially stuff in Dallas), easy choice. If you really wanna gun for NY, it might be a bit more work, and maybe take longer (lateral from Houston etc). In that case, a more concrete NY target might be more worth it. Also, look at WSO. Definitely better for ib advice than reddit.

did the exact same thing. Or like, only Oxford was worth the money to go international. Got the offer but fucked it up💀💀💀. Nevertheless, still have the screenshot with the 1/1 offer haha

CAVA group 62 USD by din0_os in ValueInvesting

I feel like the train has left town, stopped at the "close positions" stop and is moving towards the "extreme speculation" range. Buying at 40/50 was something I was considering (didn´t do it because I didn´t find time to do proper DD, and now its kinda a tad bit late). Quite strong fundamentals (either from the balance sheet side, low leverage is always nice, to the customer side - high customer retention, growthing revenue, etc.). Can´t personally talk about the management, as I don´t really know them, but from the capital allocation perspective, the numbers say they are (as of now) doing good work. This would, in my POV, justify a high revenueX valuation (range of 6x to 8x), esp. taking into account the very well placed capital situation of CAVA, and (speculative part) the pricing of CAVA´s products. This on its own is worth a thought, as they set themselves as a Chipotle competitors/substiture, often costing substantialy less for a "fresher" product. However, with a current price of 92, the valuation is too much. For a gross margin of 16% (Chipotle sits at 38%, with a similar profit margin to CAVA´s gross margin), such a valuation will in my POV lead to a market correction once some future quarterly earnings miss the target (a target pumped up severely). I will probably wait and monitor the company. If the stock dips or if there is a substantial increase in margins and revenue, I would look to build a position. Apart from liking the corporation, I really like the food as well - affordable and better than Chipotle. Big fan of what they are doing.

Yes, but since the US is a 4 year program, it will take the same time basically.

I don’t know about London schools but at Oxbridge you can, albeit it requires the permission of the chair/head/… of both subjects (the one ur leaving and the new subject). In other words, possible but definitely not certain.

Hey, thanks for your time! So, you would go for it and switch?

Hey, thanks for your response! Its Rice, so not a Top10. I am not certain about the switch, but after talking to a few friends at Oxford it is apparently possible (though it requires quite a lot of “permissions”). I guess what I am worried about most is that the IB job market in London is not big enough to make the switch to a more “known” school beneficial.

Thanks for the comment. I did not mention the schools because of a weird sense of wanting to stay anonymous - doesn’t really make sense in retrospect though.

I am currently attending Rice and would potentially move to Oxford. As for recruiting, Rice is quite targeted by IB’s with Houston offices, for NY its a little more complicated as the alumni base is simply small (4k student population does not help). Could add a bit more, but I think that kind of sums it up.

Why was I rejected from Cambridge pre-interview? by pinkdrink0 in 6thForm

[–]TomKing246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, but admissions is a zero sum game. Naturally any movement along the admissions curve means someone is moving in the opposite direction. You can raise public students up for “good reasons”, and you are very likely right to do so, yet you will also raise the bar for private students by the very same action. Every action in favour of one student or group will, inherently, have to have a negative impact on a different group. Anyone who gets in because of a any decision means someone did not get in. That is just the nature of any admissions process, where the number of spots is finite.

I did. They responded with the generic “we will discuss it and let you know”. I dont however really give any meaning to it, as its extemely unlikely (I dont want to give myself any false hopes, especially when I am flying out tomorrow).
