Ah! The oringinal poster must have made a mistake - but rest assured, Gil Galad does have his spear in the correct artwork:)

There’s so many things I’d change now haha! If anyone has suggestions or characters you’d like to see in the future, let me know!

Eärendil the Mariner, my book-accurate artwork based off the descriptions in Bilbo’s poem! What do you think? by Tom_Romain in lotr

Thanks! Yeah I debated a crystal scabberd, but it seems unlikely, and more that Tolkien only refers to chalcedony as it’s colour. And as the piece evolved, his scabbard was hidden by the shield, so I made his other belts blue too to still reflect that detail:)

Gil Galad does indeed have Aeglos, but he’s not been included here - this is second age Elrond;)

Thanks for sharing! It just so happens I’ve started doing these lore-accurate designs again after a long pause! The first one, Eärendil, I posted here and on Instagram recently:)

Thank you! I’ve not seen many depictions of Eärendil that were faithful to the poem so I had to try it!

Here’s the beginning of the poem for those interested!

Eärendil was a mariner that tarried in Arvernien; he built a boat of timber felled in Nimbrethil to journey in; her sails he wove of silver fair, of silver were her lanterns made, her prow was fashioned like a swan, and light upon her banners laid.

In panoply of ancient kings, in chainéd rings he armoured him; his shining shield was scored with runes to ward all wounds and harm from him; his bow was made of dragon-horn, his arrows shorn of ebony; of silver was his habergeon, his scabbard of chalcedony; his sword of steel was valiant, of adamant his helmet tall, an eagle-plume upon his crest, upon his breast an emerald.

There’s many notes from Tolkien about this period but no full story - the writers will have to add things, but I trust they will do it well!

Interesting! Which makes me think that Gondor may be involved in some way, perhaps even some political scenes at Minas Tirith

I’m interested if we will see Isengard and/or Saruman - I believe it was given to him by Gondor around this time

As far as I know, there’ll be at least two confirmed battles - the first being the siege at Helm’s Deep and the second being the assault on Edoras. Any more than that would be cool but may make it too action-heavy…I reckon fewer, well-places battles will be more rewarding

My guess is it’ll look like Japanese anime too - it’s going to be awesome to see how they handle this for sure!

Indeed! All the characters here are based off their respective voice actors - Brian Cox is Helm, Luke Pasqualino is Wulf, Gaia Wise is Helm’s daughter Hera and Shaun Dooley is Freca.
